I'm 70, this brings back wonderful memories, Dorothy singing over the rainbow makes my heart happy!
70 years 💀

I first started watching the Wizard of Oz when I was five years old. I've watch it almost every year since then. 65 years later and I NEVER get tired of watching it. It was originally shown in black and white of course, "back in the day!"
I was quite certain it was shown in black & white until Dorothy’s arrival in OZ. This was the epic catalyst that gave the movie such a breathtaking awe to the audience.
I was also 5 when I first saw this film, and still watching it today
It was in black and white for years on TV, but in the original 1939 release the Kansas scenes had a sepia tint like they did here. The negative was soaked in a bath to look like an old photograph. They restored this in 1989 for the 50th anniversary release.
My great grandmother watched this movie when she was a child. She would sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to her daughter, my grandmother, and my grandmother would sing it to my mom. Now, my mom sings it to me. I never got to watch the film in all it's glory when it came out. That was a long, long time ago for me. But sometimes I imagine the joy of my great grandma watching it with *her* family. It makes me smile.

How wonderful, it's fun reading all the ways the movie touched lives in such a personal and positive way😊
A wonderful story:
Not long after seeing The Wizard of Oz, a little girl named Natalie Norris fell ill and was hospitalized. Her mother wrote to MGM and relayed her daughter's wish that she could get a visit from Dorothy. They called Judy, who was of course delighted to do it, and sent Natalie a letter telling her that they had a date. She wanted to come in full Dorothy kit, but by that time everything had been put away in storage, so Judy wore a simple frock and her own short hair, and Natalie didn't mind a bit. Judy chatted with her a while and even sang "Over the Rainbow" to her, bringing Natalie's mother to tears. Later, Natalie showed rapid improvement, and not only recovered, but later in life became a singer herself!
Wow!!!!
@@user-ey3kr7zl7m Judy had a big heart. 🙂
Thee actual judy garland came to visit the girl in the hospital? What year was that? what age would judy have been? I believe she visited many hospitals and worked on a number of charities too.
@@Halfscotboy_39 Like I said, it was not long after the movie came out, so late 1939 or early 1940. So Judy would have been seventeen, and she had only just become "thee (sic) actual Judy Garland." _Wizard_ was what made her a star. 🙂
@@MaskedMan66 Thanks for clearing that up for me. 👍
The real preview … This is one of the greatest movies of all-time.
Wait till you hear the truth 😔
@@luckyandwyattsworld2750 What "truth" would that be? None of the ridiculous stories about Judy Garland being "forced" to do this and that, I hope, or some guff about a "hanging Munchkin?" Let's have something original.

Judy Garland was such a cutie back then.😍❤
She was! And a bit of a daredevil, it seems. She managed to talk her mother into buying her a motor scooter, then proceeded to tear up and down Hollywood Boulevard at 80 MPH! Needless to say, she didn't get to keep the bike.
So was Jack Haley. Just look at his big blue eyes!
Judy garland Was 16 Years Old When She Made The Mgm The Wizard of Oz
@shewalksthroughfire What on earth do you think was "disgusting?" Judy was 4'11" and could effectively play under her age; in fact, people were often surprised at meeting her to learn how mature and sophisticated she really was. She had, in fact, been playing mainly prepubescents well into her teens and was getting a little fed up with it, but the role of Dorothy Gale was one she could not pass up.
@@miguelescalante4223Actually, she was 17.
Someplace where there isn't any trouble.

What beautiful words, like Neverland.
I want to go to that place someday and stay.
Dorothy did, in the sixth book, and brought Uncle Henry and Aunt Em with her.
I love this film when I was young during childhood because it brings me memories
Oh my I didn't realise how much I missed this movie until nw😍
Dorothy is so pretty
Whenever she starts singing that song, I'm super grateful they cast her instead of Shirley Temple.
Shirley was never seriously in the running; Mervyn LeRoy always wanted "Wizard" to be Judy's movie.
Although I still wonder what it’d be like with her as Dorothy.
@@vicentehizon6202 Shirley did go to Oz in 1960 for her T.V. series "Shirley Temple's Storybook." She played both Princess Ozma, the ruler of Oz, and her transformed (by Old Mombi, played by Agnes Moorehead) boy alter ego Tip.
Luke Skywalker looking up at the two suns was influenced by the Over The Rainbow sequence.
How do you figure?

que excelente calidad para ser tan antigua
Es de gran calidad por su antigüedad; las personas eran verdaderos artistas en aquellos días. 🙂
This is like WOW i really like the wizard of oz
Judy Garland was only seventeen when she starred in the fantasy epic "Wizard of The Oz".
She sang the a all time classic "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" which was her trademark song. This was the song so synonymous with Judy as it was part of her.
Correction: She was 16 starring in the film. She was 17 around the time the movie came out. And the title is "The Wizard Of Oz". I'm not being rude, just correcting some things lol.
The song's title is actually just "Over the Rainbow." But you're right; she made it her personal anthem.

Is it just me, or are they talking really fast in that first scene. Do you think they tried to keep the pace fast to hook you? Or Am I a trifle slow.

The words 'charming' and 'classic' were coined for this movie. Technically, the effects just don't compare with movies today, but that's not the point is it.
There have been movie technical advances since OZ but that has worked in the film’s favor. Todays CGI effects are too slick, metallic, cold and obtuse; OZ’s homemade effects provide a warmth, depth, color and craftsmanship that a computer could never provide.
This movie pioneered a lot of effects that are still in use.

A MGM fez este filme, não a Warner Brothers.
I still think it was pretty freakin' shady of Galinda (Galinda with a 'ga'), I mean Glinda, to put the dead woman's shoes on Dorothy). Must have been raised in a barn!
It's Glinda, and has been for 123 years. Forget all that "Wicked" garbage. And as for the shoes, since Dorothy was the destroyer (however unintentionally) of the dictator of the Munchkins, she was entitled to any and all spoil. And the shoes protected her, along with Glinda's kiss.
