In this charming film based on the popular L.Frank Baum novel, Dorothy and her dog Toto are caught in a tornado's path and somehow end up in the land of Oz. Here she encounters some memorable friends and foes in her journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who everyone says can help her return home and possibly grant her new friends their goals of a brain, heart and courage.

have been to kc, ks, am originally from ohio, and now live in italy, whenever i long for home, i think of these soft, reassuring words, and repeat them silently to myself...
In the opening song of the album Rainbow On Stage they used this audio from the movie, "Toto, I've got a feeling where not in Kansas anymore.... We must be over the rainbow."
Band starts.
"You're Not In Kansas Anymore", said by Colonel Miles Quaritch arriving on Pandora in "Avatar" and "Avatar: The Way of Water". "The Wizard of Oz" is Cameron's favourite movie.
It's generally a common saying if you think something is quite off and strange =) There are other common sayings taken from quotes in this movie, it was a real masterpiece, great humour too.
Love this movie since I was a kid and I remember watching it on TV age 4 at my Grand Ma s house in Milwaukee County .
That good witch is Billie Burke. I recognise her from her beautiful voice.

Still, it's nice to come back to a movie I enjoyed as a child. The fact this movie is coming up on a century in age proves how well it stands the test of time

it might have ben ok, even good - but NOT the masterpiece it is - Garlands' longing and vulnerability make the film.
Mervyn LeRoy intended the movie as a starring vehicle for Judy (you can just forget all the rumors about Shirley Temple; she was never approached), and the only other actress he'd have considered was Deanna Durbin.
The way they abused her I wouldn't of blamed her if she walked away and never came back. I wish she would have been able to escape. ugh.

I remember this being so well remembered cause it was the VERY first film to have colour all round not just black and white

@@Lover-of-Creative-Priorities They're well remembered partially because they're of very high quality, and because before there was such a thing as home video, they were seen on T.V. every year. 🙂 But the high quality thing is true of B&W movies ( _Citizen Kane, It's a Wonderful Life_ ) and silent films ( _Metropolis, The Phantom of the Opera_ ) as well.

1930s better than the 1990s
Not in every way. I'd love to freeze all the real estate development in California at 1938: art deco skyscrapers downtown, no freeways, lots of open space, grocery stores and no supermarkets yet. However, there was the Great Depression and WWII was looming. The world still had that right ahead of it, including the Holocaust. As much as I feel nostalgia for the past, I wouldn't want to go back there permanently.

Not sure if it's the RUclips HD 1080p compression or not but this clip looks terrible at full screen! Thank goodness the actual Blu-ray looks so much better.
