@@sophiegracewillis I believe it! One worry I have is I hear they're prone to separation anxiety when left alone too long. Do you have any videos about leaving your havanese at home even for a few hours and how it goes? (Asking for a nervously excited new pet parent)
I can definitely vouch for that! (I actually talk a bit about it in a video going up soon). It's something I'm yet to properly work on with Evie as obviously the pandemic has meant I'm at home pretty much all the time! But I try to give her some alone time throughout the day so that she knows she can be OK in her own company. I've found the best strategy is making sure she's tired before leaving her alone e.g. after a walk (and that's a lot easier when you have a new puppy as they tire out really quickly!) I also swear by her crate. She sleeps in it overnight in a room by herself and is absolutely fine, so I would definitely recommend crate training. I also always try to give her something positive to do when I'm leaving her alone, even when I'm having a shower for example haha, so that could be a chew that takes a while to eat or putting some peanut butter in a Kong toy. I'd 100% recommend working on getting your puppy used to having some alone time from the start as I think it's then so much easier as they grow up used to it. Wishing you all the luck!
Does she still have blue eyes? I have never seen blue eyes in a havanese after their first few weeks. My two babies had their amazing black/brown eyes by when I first met them at 4-5 weeks. Blue eyes must be really rare ❤
She does! Although she was scratched in the eye by a cat which has unfortunately changed her left eye to a greeny colour. It looks quite nice though haha
She the same colors as my Fraizer boy. Havenese are so affectionate. Love a routine as long as it's theirs. Velcro pet is very true. They are clingy. We love our guy so much we are doubling down.
I'm planning on getting a Havanese puppy. How much time does it take / do you need to dedicate for training her ? It will be my first ever puppy so any advice is appreciated :) Thank you !
Aw exciting! It takes quite a lot of time at the beginning, but the more you work with them the quicker they are trained so if you dedicate lots of time at the start, it's so much easier! I just did little and often with her as a puppy, you're never really done training tbh haha, but in terms of being fully house trained I'd say it took until she was about six months. I have a puppy tips video which discusses this a bit more if that's helpful :) ruclips.net/video/kaeTHyTC8dc/видео.html
Wondering if Havanese ever stop biting, to show love, as play, no reason, yes when they get mad at you for preventing them doing what they want. My 3 month is much better after teaching her "NO" shaking a finger in front of her nose. She was puncturing skin, drawing blood. Rolled up sheet of paper did not work or thin cardboard but did show she knows she is doing wrong to bite me. Rolled up small magazine secured with rubber band seems to be working. I pick it up she immediately stops biting, tapped her on the nose lightly just once saying, "NO!" Yes, she immediately knows what it is for and her biting must stop. Have to remember to take it outside where she bit me yesterday because she was mad I stopped her going where she should not go.
They do stop! Tbh I found it didn't make too much of a difference if I told her no or walked out the room or anything like that, she would still bite haha but she never bites now, I think she stopped at around 6 months
Holler ouch loudly then ignore them for ten minute or so. Hittng will make them hand aggressive which makes grooming hard. The nipping is puppy bonding. Dogs do a form of time out.
It's mostly a wait-it-out kind of thing I'm afraid... But I did find leaving the room when she did it or just turning my back on her was the most effective. Didn't always work though!
I miss my HavaJava. Thank you for sharing. Havanese are the best
