    With negative film there's no such thing as "the true image" anyway. I mean technically there is but it's gonna look terrible and isn't meant to be the final image. The way it's designed, it's meant to record as much information as possible from which you then create the actual picture - be it in the darkroom or digitally. And that process will always be influenced by individual interpretation and choices, not to mention the technology.

    Came for the photos, stayed for the hopelessness of trying to obtain a "pure" image unmediated by technology :)

    I like how you ask permission to take a photo. I have recently tried this approach as well, and have a much higher success rate this way. Most people have even been curious about the film camera I use and the details of the project, and it ends up being a great conversation. And with all of the social distancing, people are biting at the bit to have conversations and interactions I feel.

    Normally I find it really hard to over develop with HC110. In fact I don't think I ever blown a highlight with it. I love using it to semi stand develop and it will usually handle very high contrast scenes. Great video again Eduardo :)

    What you said about scanning and all black and white films kinda looking alike really resonates with me.
    The naked photogtapher compared a couple of film stocks and most of the time the results look very similar. I do print my pictures in the darkroom though and some film stocks are easier to work with than others. But in the end I'm sure you'd be able to get the results you desire with any film stock.

    Just a tip with HC-110, because the common dilution is Dilution "B", and the dev times are short, it may be better to use the unofficial Dilution "H" which is 1+62 I believe. It's basically more diluted Dilution "B" which gives you more development time and less room for error and diluted developer. Also! HC-110 Dilution 1+90 for 18 minutes is good for expired films and for films you are not sure about the time for because you should get a usable image.

    Tremendo video, master!

    You talked about the difference between B&W films and I completely agree in general (the slight difference between HP5+ and Tri-X are often overstated for example). By my experience, the only truly different B&W film I've ever used is the Ferrania P30.

    Siempre disfrutando de tus videos. Lo que no entiendo es como aparece una película nueva. Cualquiera se pone a fabricar una película? Qué hay de las grandes fábricas como Kodak, Fuji o Agfa? Tan fácil es hacerla? Acá en Argentina no tenemos acceso a absolutamente nada de eso. Hacer fotos con película es una inversión millonaria... Saludos!!

      @@edpavez Bueno, justamente por eso pregunto. De dónde sale un rollo Wolfman, Babylon o Street Candy... Quién los fabrica??

    • @edpavez
      @edpavez  3 года назад

      @@gabocosta3373 Street candy es en verdad un rollo antiguo de cámaras de vigilancia de cajeros automáticos de banco (ATM) que lo empaquetaron en un envase nuevo. Lomo Babylon no sé qué film es, pero dicen que es un Orwo antiguo que le cambiaron el envase. Hacer film es muy caro y difícil. Por eso casi siempre los films “nuevos” que salen, son films antiguos. No sé cómo lo habrán hecho los creadores de este “Wolfman” pero me aseguraron que es una emulsión hecha por ellos. Me imagino que subarriendan a alguna empresa grande (como Ilford) y usan sus máquinas con una combinación distinta de materiales. Pero la verdad no sé cómo hicieron este film en particular.

    why you never darkroom print your negatives. Its alot more of fun then scanning. If you gonna go analog , go all the way. Thats just my opinion

    • @edpavez
      @edpavez  3 года назад

      And then how do I upload them on RUclips to show you the results in a video? I would have to print in a darkroom, then dry the print, scan the images with a flatbed scanner (which has poor quality compared to a direct negative scan with other methods) and than put those scanned files on a video. I can skip all those extra steps by showing you the scans.

      What do you mean? We are not in lockdown here in New York: schools, bars, subways and even some venues are open. My point was not "don't take pictures during the pandemic", (that would mean: "don't take pictures for two years"). My point was (and I said this literally in that video): "don't go out and take pictures *of empty cities during lockdowns*, because this is not about you: let the essential workers do their job and you stay at home".

    • @TrentGamingCo
      @TrentGamingCo 3 года назад

      @@edpavez so what it became more approprate when people were in the city? your logic is falling apart im sorry to tell you. isnt it more safe to take pictures of empty streets than when there are people out. im not saying you shouldnt be able to photograph just that you took a rather proud stance on the topic and this doesnt fall in line with that in my opinion. do your thing eduardo but dont tell others what is and isnt appropriate

    • @edpavez

      @@TrentGamingCo again, there was a lockdown. We are not in lockdown anymore (for now, but cases in NYC are rising again). I really don’t know what you mean by “your logic is falling apart” if my whole point is (again): WHEN THERE IS A LOCKDOWN, do not go out and take pictures of empty streets for your personal benefit.
      If there is no lockdown, why would you not go out and take pictures (taking appropriate measures)? Your point makes no sense, man.
