Wow, I’ve watched many videos and yours are simply the best. Straight to it no 5 mins waffling on about yourself. You demonstrate with clarity and understanding, explaining the different wools and which wools work best. Love that you let us know where you buy your items from. I’m a beginner and watching your videos inspire me. Thank you.
Thank you so much, reading your comment is amazing and just fantastic. I don't like to waffle so glad that shows and I make videos I wanted when I started. Thanks so much for watching and supporting, helps me make more videos x
This is one of the best videos I've seen on how soft/firm your felted project should be. I've been collecting lots of roving because all the tutorials I've watched use it. I timed myself and it took about 20 minutes just to make a firm ball!! Seeing the carding in action really looks like it'll make a difference!! Thanks for the demo, Philippa!
I really appreciate ALL of your tutorials 💕. Absolutely, they are one of the best I have watched so far. Thank you for sharing! And your English is so clear for me!😄
Thank you so much, that is so kind and I am glad you find my video's useful, I made them to answer my questions I had in the beginning, happy felting x
Hello! New subscriber here. I just received my first felting kits yesterday, and I'm bumbling my way through 😅 I greatly appreciate your beginner's series! Thank you so much for all the helpful info 😊
When you say something will last longer if it's felted harder, what happens when no longer lasts? Does the item expand into a bunch of fluffiness? Does it fall apart? Thanks for your very informative videos.
I really think 'squidgey' should be a technical term used in all tutorials and patterns. I've also noticed (while learning) that there's a moment when the felting kinda 'clicks'. Goes from being loose and tangled and loose to tightening up and resisting the needle. Almost like when whipping cream.
You are right, there's definitely a moment when it feels done and it's all just tyding up after that. Squidgey does get the point across, thanks for watching and commenting x
Loved watching your videos - you explain things so well. I am keen to try needle felting. You know so much about it and your felted items are so professional. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you! I've only been felting for 5 years now and RUclips has so much free advice, I hope you enjoy it when you start, check out my beginner playlist too for more xx
@@feltsbyphilippa thankyou so much for answering. I will definitely checkout your playlist. I am a watercolour artist and art journaler living in Australia so it will be a nice challenge to try something new. Thank you for your inspiration.
Hi Philippa, I have recently discovered you and binged watched your channel! Today I made my first felts all by your direction! I need to keep practising =) Thanks so much for your videos
Sometimes when I do asymmetric shapes, some bits are more felted than other bits. Rounded edges on elongated shapes tend to be a bit firmer than pointed edges on the same figure.
i hope you respond because i really want some help but is it more economical to make them myself or to buy them premade on etsy? i want to make felt balls into earrings and sell them for my business.
Time wise, it's better to buy pre made, I don't know prices but they take time and effort to felt yourself. Alternatively wet felting is fast to make but you have to allow drying time, I'm not a wet felter but there must be a few videos on RUclips that might help. Good luck with your business and have a look at my Etsy video too x ruclips.net/video/yazdpIxPkfk/видео.html
I have found that if I do not felt my foundation/core, my project can become a bit distorted when I am adding my top coat and details. I have found my heads will be off center, and my faces will no longer be symmetrical. Has anyone else experienced this problem? As a side note...I do like to felt my projects very hard.
Im trying to felt just a basic ball but where I squished the wool together there is still like a crack... How can I make that fold/crack go away? I was a smooth ball 😭
You can cover it with wool after, hopefully your wool is carded, take some and place over the crack, if your wool is tops then you may need to card it a bit first (look at my wools video if you are not sure). Felt it over the join/mark with a 38g needle and then try a finer needle to help get rid of any holes x
I feel like it's taking me a REALLY long time to get that kind of firmness. my very first try is a very small ball and I feel like it's stuck as still decently soft and squishy

Hi, no it will just go floppy and soft and quishy, not a problem if it's just for yourself xx.

Thank you so much! Glad you liked it x
I'm new what needles would you use on small hearts from cookie cutters
Hi, I would start with a 36 triangular to bring it together and finish with a 40 twisted/spiral to finish it, hope that helps x

You have to felt the core too, it doesn't have to be super hard but definitely has to be felted aswell x

It could definitely be your wool, make sure it's carded wool as this is much faster to felt x
