Le pen literally is self described far right
@@d4v1do where ? when ?
@@iska788 Le Pen is to the right of Francois Fillon, who is a moderate right winger with typical neoconservative views. He is right wing. She harshly criticized him for his views on "right of land" policy, allowing anyone to be born in a French colony to have French citizenship, which is quite extreme.
By definition of her being further to the right than the right wing factions of the Republicans, she is by definition Far-Right.
Why even argue it? If people support Far-RIght policies why is it wrong to describe them as such? Are people embarrassed for holding these views? Maybe that says something about their current beliefs.
You guys don't know what 'far right' means, you just use it as a slur. Le Pen is quite liberal economically
A party with nativist policies (like RN) are generally considered far-right by most political scientists.
I don't understand people who are so ashamed of their own right-wing policies who cringe and complain about rightly being called "far-right". "Far Right" is not a slur, it is a description. If you do not fashion yourself "Far Right" then do not vote for candidates who support "Far-Right" policies.
Le Pen is not economically liberal, she is largely isolationist, and wears it as a badge of pride. "Far right" is not an economic label, as economics does not contend with the political spectrum in this way on its extremes.
She is far-right by definition of her social policies: Further to the right of Sarcozy, who is "right wing" on social policies, who had even considered in 2014 repealing gay marriage. LePen has not come out actively against LGBT people, and I do not believe she harbors those religious views; she is secularist, but nonetheless, Le Pen is isolationist, nationalistic, and austeric.
As right as right gets. If you support these policies, wear the label of "Far Right" with pride rather than hiding in shame. If you are ashamed of this accurate label, then you should consider the other candidates who better share in your values.

@@stephenwithaph1566 Definition of the Far Right? Everything I don't like
Robert Fico old school left is routinely called far right
@@dendradwar9464 France's government has always been center in its Genealogy of presidents, and the French's "overton window" has widened to encompass both the right and the left in response to the radically neoliberal and un-democratic Macron government.
France's enjoyment of robust retirement and populist proletarian sentiments is cultural, and retirement had always been its lowest in the 1960s. This is not evidence of any shifts in the overton window, let alone to the Left, but a natural and cultural rejection of the masochism of NeoLiberalism/NeoConservatism whose history is laid in ravaging the quality of life of its country's people; as has lead the USA to lag far behind in all of its standard of living metrics, and currently laying waste to the people of Argentina.
I know absolutely nothing about Robert Fico or any other notable Solvak politician, but if his policies are somewhere close to "Selling out the working population to business interests but with nationalist flavorings harkening back to an Imperial Nostalgia for a return of the greatness of the Mother/Fatherland by blaming xyz" then he could be nominated for the title of "Far-right", which would be a remarkable political journey for someone with origins in the communist movement - which is what I gather from a glance on wikipedia on Fico.
The backbone of Le Pen’s electoral platform includes:
Reducing legal migration to no more than 10,000 immigrants per year.
Ending the automatic right to family reunification and the acquisition of French citizenship through marriage.
Eliminating pull factors of immigration
Immigrants add to a nation's economy both by bringing skilled and unskilled labour (doing jobs many won't do) and by paying taxes and being consumers.
The simple fact is that every nation is experiencing the consequences of an expanding aged population and a decrease in family size. At the same time there is the pressure that technology will impact many jobs. That's why retirement age was pushed back and in most countries it is 65 or 67.
No country can survive without immigration and there are benefits to having international businesses in nations.
The damage done to limiting the discourse of the challenges ahead to the jingoism of immigration and the hatred and violence that it incites is enough to understand the dearth of new ideas in Le Pen's party.
Nice try but the argument is old and b.s. You basically suggest a country sell out. And if it's nolonger your country what good is it? @@marisabenson1222
@@marisabenson1222 Unskilled labour is only useful when a country is expanding rapidly. The US in the 19th and early 20th century, unskilled labour was great.

Agreed, and in the US you must be 35 to stand as President. But I rather tire of an attitude among much of the ‘educated’ class that they have a God given right to lead. In 1970, roughly one in five Labour MPs in the UK had started life in unskilled or semiskilled “working class” jobs. In ship yards, in the mines in steal works. In the up coming UK election, it is being suggested Labour may win up to 450 out of 650 seats. It will be unlikely that more than 10 to 15 started in a non-graduate working class job. It is likely that two thirds will have studied at the group of the UKs 12 top universities, as will the MPs of all the other parties. No major party represents the working class, so they are turning to the right wing Reform Party. This is happening across the western democracies.

"Far right", they say. But... "centre-left". Something seems strange here 😏.
I agree, the Popular Front is absolutely as far left as National Rally is far right. Both have plans that can only be described as completely bonkers.
I don't get why France dislikes Macron so much.
Yes, the economy didn't do so well under his watch, but guess what? Both the National Rally and New Popular Front plan to increase government spending, likely making an even bigger mess of France's budget. What makes people think this will work out?
When you are unhappy with a political party, politician, president you vote for another. If people are unhappy with new people they will vote out them as well. Macron doesn't have a guarantee from god to be president. It's quite easy.
He raised the retirement age, what's there to like about that? The National Rally doesn't really have particularly robust economic policies and fancies itself as an "alternative party" with nationalistic and racist leanings. The New Popular Front aims at supporting middle and lower class of France by raising taxes on the richest corporations -- people who won't feel a tax raise -- to fund jobs programs and wage increases that the French working class deserve.
Simply doing what makes people lives easier makes you more electable. Simple as.

Okay, I'm used to the characterization of part of the spectrum as being the "far right", but how can you call the other group "center left"? Isn't just calling them "left" more accurate? What is center about them when they are on about 30% of the spectrum that doesn't include the center? It doesn't make sense in looking at French or world politics.
One party in the coalition is literally the Communist Party of France. LFI is arguably worse. "center left" indeed.

Wow, you have a speaking crystal ball?
@@charleswhite758 Just an ax whose father was on the team of the last labor president.
This is an odd prediction, since I have noticed that Mélenchon and the French left have been consistently demonized far more in liberal media, especially as of the last three weeks. Macronists are radically centrist, and it's right leaning supporters are just as likely to go RN as its more liberal supporters are to abstain rather than to vote Left.
The remaining centrists are likely to go right if given the option, since they have far more in common with neoconservatives and nationalists than they do the left wing.
Just look at the DW reporting - a liberal European organization - gives platform to the right wing, and center, but deplatforms the left wing, even though they came in 2nd place in popularity in the first round. They would sooner platform the less popular Attal than Mélenchon, Bompard, or anyone else in his camp. This is classic establishment behavior, and extremely reminiscent of how Bernie Sanders was handled by the democratic establishment in the US 2016 and 2020 elections.
It remains to be seen if anything really changes
In other words, almost 70% of French voters voted conservative. Clearly the left wing needs to be incredibly careful with how they move forward. Even if the bizarre representational system France employs gives the left an unduly-deserved strong oppositional position, the raw numbers show the French public have given no mandate for the left to oppose the rightward tilt the people want.
Propaganda's a powerful thing - just look at Brexit.
