my brain is a gift and a curse. Creativity is my answer and lifeline.

This is a very important topic, great to hear some thoughts about it from established musicians. I love to create and making music/writing lyrics is therapeutic to me, since it's the only way I'm able to say what I have in my mind. But at the same time, I feel like my creativity is the reason why I fall into depression and addiction so easily. So it's a vicious, never-ending circle.

I've been having real bad anxiety lately.....I've been feeling really depressed, extremely stressed and exhausted. I play my guitar as a way to cope with my pain and frustration....

I heard someone say the most tortured ppl r the most creative. I feel like its just the pain and suffering trying to be expressed. Like "hey. I need help" but it just looks like something cool to everyone else and they dont realize what the real meaning is

I’ve actually been meaning to reach out to Tom morello about raising awareness of alternative therapies for mental health disorders without using medications. I want to become an activist about it. I used to be mentally ill and thought I would commit suicide by the time I was 30. Now I’m 22 and have reversed my issues without any medications but it was years of work!

      TokyoAfterlife 1. Neurofeedback
They look at how your brain works together and where you are either too dominant, inactive, under active, etc. and use electrodes to train your brain to work with other parts of the brain more smoothly. The electrodes are only reading your brain waves, not sending anything into your brain. You watch your brain waves on the screen and when they do the task given based on the setting adjusted, you will see a reaction in the screen. Your brain responds to the cause and effect and eventually trains itself, which changes the way certain areas work together. It’s great for anxiety and depression. For me it healed my seizure induced psychosis and began healing parts of my brain injury. It’s hard to describe it without being in person but that’s the gist of the treatment. Doctors don’t believe how incredible the affects can be, very frustrating
      2. Nutrient therapy
Blood and urine samples to see which nutrients you’re lacking or overdosed on. You take those vitamins to give your brain the nutrition it needs to function properly. Ex. Some people go on anxiety meds or have horrible panicks that lead to extreme self harm, turns out their body has too much copper, so they just need to take zinc everyday to help their issues since zinc and copper balance each other out. Lots of people realize that they don’t need meds anymore or at least not such a high dose as they used to need.
Those are the 2 most common to start with. It might not treat your problems 100%, some people it does, but it may help at least make things more manageable
      Hope this helps!

One thing I’ve noticed about most people who listen to metal especially the darker stuff or hard rock they are all depressed and often not well kept. I make this style of music and it has done nothing but take me deeper into depression for the past 15 years
