Good for you girl. About time another common sense food doodah was aired. I am 74 and back in the day when I had a young family there was the late great Shirley Goode and Bernadine Lawrence casting their respective visions. There is certainly room for a book from you. Don’t buy costly caster sugar. Buy ordinary granulated and give it a quick zuzz in your processor. Longer zuzz gives you a slightly grainy cing sugar. Keep going, your wisdom is desperately needed in these trying times.X
Thank you! I'll be honest; I didn't give the sugar much thought. I just bought caster sugar out of habit. There's still a lot I need to learn! Your comment means a lot, as it's quite nerve-wracking putting yourself out there on the internet.
Thank you for your inspiration. As a vegetarian who tries to eat a healthy diet this is going to be helpful. I bake bread, have porridge for breakfast and enjoy vegetable stew and look forward to seeing ideas for other healthy and budget friendly meals.
Now that I've mentioned it, I'm nervous about filming it! The internet sourdough police are definitely going to get on my case for trying to simplify it!
New subscriber here from the USA...just a suggestion... US RUclipsrs who have similar content always show the receipts so that viewers can see price/weight/size of items. And some also include in description box a list of all purchased items as well as price. Very nice presentation and good ideas for budget meals.
It does take time, but, in general, I find you can be relatively 'hands-off' with it, and it still comes out lovely. I'm worried the sourdough police are going to come after me when I post something about simplifying the process!
A litre of milk seems scant for 2 people, to make drinks, porridge, baking, cauliflower cheese. But the cheaper supermarkets (Tesco, Aldi, Lidl) do a litre for 50p, so a family could buy more there. I was interested to see your butter - did you get this because it’s cheaper, or vegetarian or is it healthier than actual butter? Great video, really nice to see one from an expert for a change! Keep up the good work!
Hi, I don't use milk in the porridge, just water. I find it tastes the same and saves a lot on milk. We often use oat milk in our house anyway so wouldn't make sense to add it to porridge! On the butter front, I've been researching this lately actually. We've now switched to actual butter but on this occasion it was cheaper to buy the flora.
Hi! A Costco video would be good. Do you use marmite. We are vegan and put it in most things. It's lovely in the gravy granules. I've tried tofu all different ways and can't find a way I like it. It's a texture thing 😅
Love the idea behind this channel!
Look forward to following you and watching your videos.
Thank you :)

Very interested in your sourdough bread recipe. Just started my sourdough journey!

Good ideas, thank you!
@@thrivinginsuburbia Continued Best Wishes for you and your channel.
I am enjoying your video's. I would be very interested in one about how to make sourdough bread. The long preparation has always put me off trying.

Well done. Thank you 😊
Thanks for watching :)
Love to see the sourdough 😊
Thanks for watching!
Yes Please for the sourdough
I need to think this one through before the sourdough police come at me in the comments!
@thrivinginsuburbia 😂
I really enjoy your videos, particularly since we eat primarily vegetarian also, cutting back even more on dairy. I love tofu!
What do you like to do with your tofu? I'm a bit boring, really. I mainly just stick it in the air fryer and then add it to things like stir fry.
Great video. Looking forward to veggie recipes. Especially tofu, really interested in how to cook with that.
Thanks for watching, I'll post the tofu recipe shortly. It was delicious so highly recommend :)
Great video. Im not vegan or veggie but i am trying to have more meat free meals for my family so will be interested in new, healthy recipes ❤
Thanks, I was worried the tofu would scare people off, haha!
Love tofu, sprinkle corn flour and spices on it and fry it till crispy 👍💕
Tofu is such an underrated food in the UK!

Would love to see this list versus Aldi or Lidl.
I have a Lidl within walking distance so I'll do them next time. Bit more of a challenge as you can't price check the items online (I think?).

Have you tried freezing it first? It changes the texture👍💕
@@amandac9210 I've not tried that but I will do. Thank you 😊
I've not tried freezing it. Interesting idea. I've yet to make a successful pudding out of it, though. That texture does weird me out.
I'm on the fence about marmite, which I know isn't allowed! Not sure how my kids would view it as they are very little.
Where are you living, because food prices are far cheaper in the north than in the south?
I'm just outside of Bristol. I wasn't aware of a North/South price difference!
@@thrivinginsuburbia yes I'm in Lancashire and it's cheaper. We were in cambs for 10 years and the price differences are a lot.
