Benefit of the doubt: Maybe it's an AU where they mess with the timelines so there's no creepy age gap? But given what I've seen of the fandom, probably not. 🙃
Yeah, there's a lot of grody stuff. I remember I once made a Tumblr post pointing out that AO3 has more fanfiction shipping Fred with George, his twin brother, than with Angelina, his black girlfriend.
Also, for drarry, a good substitute would be Simon and Baz from Carry On. Carry on was based on a Harry Potter/Draco fanfiction of the main character of another book that spawned a trilogy. Completely different story but similar worlds that go into drastically different directions as Simon and Baz, school ennemies are actually canonically in love.
Oh, I definitely love Solangelo; they're very cute! ("I have a note from my doctor." "I'm his doctor." Superb.) I think Valdangelo fits Wolfstar better, and also it will always have a special place in my heart, since that was my Nico ship in-between House of Hades and Blood of Olympus (when I knew Nico was gay but not that Will Solace was a romantic option for him), but I love Solangelo, too.
Good question. I DON’T KNOW. I have never read a Snape/Harry fanfiction, but I gotta imagine they’re trying to explore the whole “You have your mother’s eyes” thing. Like, Snape loved Harry’s mom and hated Harry’s dad, which could make for some good character study, platonically. Shipping them is pretty squick.
i actually love that this video exists, points were made in the introduction and throughout (also thank you for saying reylo is garbage, finnrey forever). i've been really into our flag means death (and the discourse) lately, and i'm trying to fill the void in my heart with characters who were not based on slave owners. any thoughts? i've already watched good omens and like half of black sails.
Galavant is a very entertaining show, if you're thinking specifically of period pieces. And my mom pushed me into marathoning Downton Abbey, years ago, and I did get super invested (though some of the characters made me powerfully angry, lol). If you're open to video games, I am deep in the Undertale and Deltarune lore. Thanks so much for commenting! I'm super glad you enjoyed the video.
@@TheAmityElf i hope you don't mind my asking (and you totally don't have to answer this if you don't want to get into the discourse), but what are your thoughts on ofmd as a whole?
@@fatimagic1365 I haven't watched the whole show; only the first few episodes. I found it fairly funny and fun, but not particularly the sort of thing I felt compelled to keep watching. Partially because I prefer content that has a fair amount of female characters, specifically female characters with different personalities and preferably female characters of color. So when I was first watching the show, my main thought was, "I understand why people watch it, but I don't need to keep going. I've been meaning to watch Abbott Elementary." As for the whole slavery issue, I just consider it a wholely avoidable problem, which makes it all the more frustrating. With Hamilton, they were pretty much always eventually going to run into the issue of slavery, just by the nature of the project, and different people would feel differently about how it was handled. If he wanted to not deal with slavery, then he fundamentally just couldn't write Hamilton. With OFMD, though, it would be so easy to just make the characters fictional. Just name them something else. It strikes me as a frustratingly easy dodge that they just decided not to take.
also I would love to know your opinion on harrymort alternatives? Like the power dynamic specifically is what gets me. only show I've came across recently that resembled that kind of dynamic is shadow and bone's alina and kirigan. And I would love to see more of that in pretty much any kind of media since I'm a sucker for it lol
You mean like Deathly Hallows-era (or Post-DH) Harrymort, where Voldemort is in control of the Ministry, or before that, when he's just in control of the Death Eaters?
@@moznalutaibi3080 Hmm...I'm thinking about fictional coups and dictators first and working my way from there, so the Voldemort equivalent could be Darth Vader, Palpatine, President Snow, etc. Maybe Galbatorix and Eragon? Ngl, that could be pretty interesting. If there were any minor Asgardian characters who the MCU viewer had been given reason to care about, you could pair them with Loki between the second and third Thor movie. Cassandra Clare actually has very heterosexual villains, and the only villain ship I can think of in her writings that has any canonical basis is Clabastian (an incest ship between a bad guy brother and the protagonist, his sister, which has a mindblowing amount of canonical groundwork), but Sebastian or Valentine could slot into the role of Voldemort pretty easily, and the Harry equivalent can be made of any good guy, although using Clary would make it an incest ship and making it Jace would also basically be an incest ship, but by adoption rather than biology. Carlisle and Aro from Twilight could kind of be something. Other than that, I think my Tomarry suggestions still stand for Harrymort, for the most part. I feel like I'm blanking on some good ones, but these are the examples off the top of my head.
@@moznalutaibi3080 I'd say there's a pretty strong argument to be made that he's yandere for Clary, yeah. Especially (book-wise) in City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire and (show-wise) in Shadowhunters Season 2b and 3b.
Ill try to watch Avatar again soon i can get into zutara ship! I was getting into dramione this year but if zutara is just as good ill give it a chance!! I just wish i was more active at reading tho...

If members of the trans community are asking for that kind of solidarity, I consider it within my means to provide it. @@TheAmityElf Sounds fair tbf, its your own choice, obviously. It isn't women.
@@ggreen5943 Well, anyone can be a threat to trans people, whether the threat is physical, social, or political. But I would argue that Dave Chapelle is another famous example of a celebrity who has gotten serious backlash from remarks about trans people- I honestly think more so than JKR, because at the end of the day, it is still very much normalized to enjoy Harry Potter.
