    Aww it was so cute when they asked Henry to greet Stanley in English and Kris out of nowhere popped up and also introduced himself with the biggest grin on his face.

      Jessie Jepps Yeah and he seems so friendly as well. It's nice to see him open up easily to someone who's black because it's quite rare in Asia, but then again I guess growing up in Canada may have resulted in that aha ^.^

      Fadumo Hussien I think Kris saw something in him that was similar to Kris' situation, bc from what I've heard, Kris faced A LOT of racism in Korea bc he's Chinese... So nice to see him smile in this. :)

    Wait, if that woman can buy an apartment for her husband to move into, can't she buy a place to store all of her wines? Wouldn't that solve the problem?

      Late reply, but I am fairly sure the wife is unemployed. The husband said she had used 90% of HIS income to make the wine so she must not have her own income. She was just coming up with empty excuses (when she said she'd buy him an apartment) so she could continue her wine making. Also, it's not just the wine taking up room all over the house that was an issue, it's the fact the whole family hikes/climbs dangerous mountains and cliffs in search of roots/herbs. They have hurt themselves on numerous occasions already. And as an older couple, the parents are more at risk of injuring themselves more seriously.

    When Chanyeol said "We have 4 Chinese members in EXO, and there are people who are prejudiced against them," it broke my heart. It must be noticeable if Chanyeol knows about it. I think the prejudice against the Chinese members became even worse after they left, and it makes me upset.

    • @trogdorthe8th
      @trogdorthe8th 8 лет назад +137

      I agree, but I still kind of have beef with Chanyeol, because he's been known in the past to pick on some of his fellow members (namely Kai) for how dark their skin tone is. No, I'm not saying his racist, but he's been on record making fun of people who have darker skin, so he's still got some growing up to do in that category. Now, many of those were in the past, so hopefully experiences like this have helped to teach him to not be so judgmental of others in that respect. He seems like a nice enough guy, but I don't know him personally, so none of us will ever know for certain.

    • @oliviahom3089
      @oliviahom3089 8 лет назад +122

      It's kind of annoying how people make fun of Kai because of his tan skin. Chanyeol seems like a nice guy and you can tell that he doesn't mean it, but I wonder if hearing those comments often hurt him or maybe Kai is jut used to it by now.

    • @trogdorthe8th
      @trogdorthe8th 8 лет назад +133

      olivia hom Kai definitely had some moments where he shot back at him for it. I can't remember, I feel like they were in Thailand, or Malaysia, I cannot remember which one- but anyway, Chanyeol had made a comment about Kai being as dark as the chair they'd given him to sit it (the chair was black). He quietly snapped back, and said something along the lines of 'Many of our fans here have darker skin, some darker than mine. I'm happy for them, and happy we can connect that way' or something like that. Basically, he said that some of their fans had darker skin like him, but that he was still happy to have them as fans (giving an underlying tone that Chanyeol shouldn't be so judgmental of him when they have fans that have tan/darker skin too). He did this more in their early years, I haven't heard so much about it now. Maybe he's grown out of it, or maybe we just don't hear about it as much because they don't do as much variety and programs as they used to.

    • @trogdorthe8th
      @trogdorthe8th 8 лет назад +79

      olivia hom Welp, I stand corrected. If you google "Chanyeol dark skin comments" he apparently made joke and jest at Kai in April of 2015 asking him if he wanted to do a skin lightening treatment. I don't care if he means it in jest (sometimes Kai laughs at these things, other times you can tell he's annoyed)- it's just rude and inappropriate.

    • @DominicanAries84
      @DominicanAries84 8 лет назад +134

      But even when the other members go on a tv show as solo or subunits they always mention that they are Super Junior's so and so. It seems like they left out Henry as a member I'm guessing because of the stupid only 13 crap. The biggest cringe worthy moment for me was when Zhoumi was one of the hosts on a program where SUJU happened to be the guests and it seemed as if he was a complete stranger to them. What do they have to pretend not to know Henry or Zhoumi to appease the only 13ers? Jeebus.

    • @kingsnowman7461
      @kingsnowman7461 8 лет назад +82

      It doesn't bother me at all. Henry was on his own because HE'S IN A CLASS OF HIS OWN. That's how I see it. No other K-Pop artist is more talented than Henry in my view.

      +shanzida kabir Actually, I know SM Entertainment has a lot of hate on this matter, but actually when Super Junior M was released from SM, the Super Junior fans made SM promise that Super Junior M would not become part of Super Junior, so they aren't allowed to introduce Henry and Zhoumi as part of Super Junior.

    How does a racism problem lose to a problem about too much medicinal wine in the house????

    • @KPOPFTW98
      @KPOPFTW98 9 лет назад +327

      ***** ikr.. sigh.. People usually react to problems they can relate too and emphathize with. Racism there is a more foreign problem since everyone there is mostly just Korean. They understood that it was bad, but they don't realize how serious it is.

    • @conniexie671
      @conniexie671 9 лет назад +175

      +Julia Naibaho I think that the reason the racism problem lost was because the son had back problems, it was dangerous, it was messing up their lives and that most of their money was spent on the wine. In my opinion, it was a bit more of a concern because it was affecting their well-being and life negatively. While racism is serious and hurtful, it doesn't affect their life as much as the wine did. I probably will get hated for my view, but I think that in the long run, the wine problem was more serious.

    • @MC-hj8wv
      @MC-hj8wv 9 лет назад +74

      +Julia Naibaho He experienced the problem because it was so widespread among Koreans. Of course they wouldn't see it as much of an issue because they were the ones who caused it.

    • @hermelynlab18
      @hermelynlab18 7 лет назад +78

      I actually agree with this. The wine thingy problem is affecting their lives and health much more seriously. While racism in Korea is also a huge thing, I don't think it could harm their lives as much at it can harm the wine family. They could still live their lives normally and healthy while the people around them could adjust more in the community. I don't know how to explain it further but yeah...

They speak Korean fluently, love Korea and the culture so much yet some of the people discriminate against them just because of their skin colour. :-( If anyone else is in a similar situation as Sam and Stanley, please know that not all Koreans are like that!!! I lived in both small towns and in Seoul and in Seoul my race was a non issue. In small towns it was more difficult because I was most likely the first non Korean they've met. People called me Michelle Obama all the time because we share a name and I had straight black hair.
      In Japan I am more or less treated the same as any non Japanese person. Unlike Korea, Japanese people do not have a predisposition against dark skin. Both men and women here get really dark in the summer and it's normal and lots of women here tan.
      Most Koreans do not tan and go out of their way to not get dark. I am sure you have heard of the extremes people go through to keep their skin white.
      I could not find make up in Korea at all. I had to buy it overseas.
      Here I can at least find dark skin make up at cosplay make up sections if I am on a budget and they sell high end make up in dark skin tones as well.
      I am on TV pretty often here in Japan and I've had many modelling and acting opportunities that I would never be offered in Korea.
      Despite these issues, I still love Korea very much and I know that not everyone is prejudice and I was lucky to never have had so many bad experiences as Stanley.

      diddl6666 Yeah, I've watched a lot of episodes. However, i've seen other problems (that aren't even as serious as this one) get more votes. In my opinion, this problem was A LOT more serious and 115 is too small of a vote.

    • @CuteKitten321
      @CuteKitten321 10 лет назад +5

      babyyneekyy Well, the thing is, even if they all thought it was a concern, what would that change?
      They would all be on board, but everyone that made him feel that way would still be out their. Their opinions don't change because a 150 people said it was a concern.

    • @babyyneekyy
      @babyyneekyy 10 лет назад +76

      CuteKitten321 Yeah but the thing is, from those fewer votes we can see that Korea doesn't really realize that they do discriminate foreigners.
      If more people voted then others would realize that this is a concern and more and more people would be able to know about it (like build awareness). Also, if Stanley had won, he would be on the next episode and so on. More and more people would hear of his concern of a debrief of it. Awareness.
      Those people who made Stanley and anyone else feel left out may still be out there, but with more people sticking up for others through the awareness, it would eventually decrease.
      That's what I think. Just remember, every movement/plan begins with a small, simple step.

    Stanley's concern is a real concern even here in America. No matter where you are you encounter people who are nice and those who are just plain rude! Here in LA when I go to Koreatown and I love going to the kpop store but lately I don't go anymore because when I go I feel like they follow me in the store. Yes I'm Hispanic but that doesn't mean I'm going to steal. Seriously gets me angry. One time I went to a korean market with my dad and the security guard was following us around the whole time we were there. Sure I understand that maybe not many Hispanic people don't go there but that doesn't give them the right to follow me around and honestly when they do that it makes me not want to go back to the store. For the kpop store its only been recently because when I first went everyone was so nice and helpful and I would go all the time but then while I was looking around the people there would come up to me every little while and ask me what I was looking for or if needed help. Every time I go I buy stuff I mean I would understand if I actually stole something but I don't i go in and buy. But honestly what's more upsetting I'm not doing anything wrong and they follow me like if I were a criminal.

    It's great seeing Kris in a random video..but honestly stuff like this is probably why he quit. He barely even said anything on this show and got so little screen time. I'll say it was a waste of his time. Meanwhile, you just know he had a million offers coming in from China better suited for him, he just couldn't attend to any of them because of SM. We all know SMs goal was to consolidate popularity in Korea first before they let the Chinese members loose in China, but it just seems like..such a waste.
    I don't really know what the right thing to do was in hindsight. But I do know one thing..I respect the hell out of Jackson because he is cross-promoting like an animal in the way Kris and Luhan and Tao probably wanted to.

    Why are they disguised that normal people dyes their hair but for idols it's okay to dye it the color of the rainbow? Why is it even disgusting and make you a weirdo because your hair is dyed? Aren't they still humans. People being indifferent of others because of their skin, hair color, their eyes, any physical appearance is just wrong makes me so frustrated. Like does it really matter? South Korea is still a very introverted country that has yet to get more exposed to the "outer world", especially the old generation. They don't know how to act around other races and they're very anti-foreigners. In the past, idols who were not koreans also had a very tough time, but I think that everyone can agree with me on this one, the newer generation is slowly changing this.
    Korea will change with time, they just need to get more exposure to foreigners. I still think that it's wrong of Korea to judge people by their races and I sincerely hope they'll improve on that field.

    I'm really glad that Stanley came onto the show and voiced his concerns. Korea has always been a pretty homogenous country. Even with beauty standards people strive for that single "ideal" type. However, as a country they're still in the process of being exposed to different cultures and ethnicities, and are hopefully learning to embrace diversity. & sadly, no matter how "educated" a person is, being prejudiced is an inherent quality in humans, whether it be with race, social status, looks.

    I've lived in Korea for 2 years and over all I've found Koreans to be exceptionally kind towards foreigners. I've had random Korean people come up to me and just start chatting because they want to practice their English and a few times had the tab at bars paid for me/us by Koreans we had just met. When something happens in the news about American Military raping Korean nationals and Korean justice system being unable to prosecute, then there is tension against all foreigners.

      ***** i see what you're saying. plus every country has a bad bunch of few. but it seemed like Stanley had a lot of these occurrences plus it's very prominent in idol groups too. I love Korea though, its a beautiful country with a beautiful tradition, but it seems like you're inferior if you have a darker shade of skin.

    • @creedencecr3706
      @creedencecr3706 9 лет назад +4

      Aqsa Qureshi well, i think you can't really compare this to the idol groups? because they are on public display with their image it's obvious that there will always be haters, and what better insult is there than attacking them for their origin/looks?
      btw that (BIG!) problem that people with dark skin are deemed inferior is a global one, even in a "neutral, developped, friendly" country as switzerland especially black people (and eastern europeans) get many comments. so i guess you can't really blame only korea.
      i mean even black elite people are trying to be as white as possible. its a prejudice thats very deeply rooted in world history and culture. (unfortunately)
      oh and the irony: i am half asian and have tanned skin. people here in switzerland are so unbelievably jealous of my "golden" skintone and always compliment me.

    • @Meelameels
      @Meelameels 9 лет назад +14

      Lara Müller wait...I'm not fully understanding your reasoning behind not comparing this to idol groups. Idol groups should be held just as much accountable for racism as anyone else
      And yes you're right that sadly the problem is a global one and i didn't mean to say that it wasn't but i never knew it was so prominent in Korea though. Because by the way Stanley is describing his problems he looks like he gets these comments often and this isn't the first time I've heard about this problem because i see it almost ALL time on shows or articles. But just because it occurs globally doesn't mean we can excuse it in Korea. We cant just say "well...it happens all the time so just get over it." Thats not how you solve an issue and it should be addressed.
      Believe me, I'm Pakistani so i have a pretty tanned skin but i don't get compliments for it bc I'm different and it's natural for me. However, if i was a white american with my colored skin I'm sure i'd be getting compliments.
      idk this is such a sad world.

      Aqsa Qureshi oh i didn't know you meant the idol groups are showing racist behaviour, i thought you meant it was against foreigners in korean idol groups (esp. the chinese...). so i agree with you on that, sorry^^
      well, im not saying that we should brush it off, but the way you said you didnt want to go to korea anymore because of this was a little over the top in my eyes because then you could basically go nowhere in this world exactly because its a global problem.
      i just recently attended an event that addressed and discussed racism against black people and i very actively try to change people's mindsets about foreigners when i see that they are prejudiced...
      cool! i am part pakistani too (together with other nationalities^^). but yeah, its sad that people always strive for what they don't have but see in others. (added to world history)

      Yeah :/ It's really sad that racism exists anywhere. I live in Australia and I've experienced it (I'm Asian). But there are bound to be people like that everywhere. We can only hope that this generation, and future ones, understand the seriousness of racism and actively put an end to it. There's no point talking about it or even getting angry, it's just up to individuals to stop being racist and for those who believe in and support multiculturalism to convince their friends and colleagues. It's definitely gotten better in a lot of countries, but we still have a long way to go...

    now now everybody with the concerns about korean racism, lemme break it down for ya... (shush imma korean living in korea) anyway, in korea people just tend to think foreigners as "scary" people since they have different skin tone from us and also because they look different. This just makes people have prejudice feelings for other races. And esp if you are a lot older such as ajjumas 아줌마 or ajoshis 아저씨 (how do you spell) they literally have no experience with foreigners. and so they just assume that they are all "bad".(on a side note, if you come to korea, never ever mess with an ajjuma, they will beat the shit out of you.) and we also think they cannot speak korean soooooo yeaahhh. honestly im really embarrassed about how some people can be really prejudice to another person... as another korean, this is a really big shame to our country,,,, i reallly reeeaaalllyyy hope people stop doing this.

      amina zahra lol thanks for the compliment xD english is my mother tongue sooo thats that, but learning a different language in the first place is quite challenging... and the korean grammar and english grammar is like the opposite of each other, so its harder for people to comprehend the structure/getting used to. And plus the idols always have tight schedules and crap that prevents them from learning the language to its pretty much up to them to learn it themselves by adapting it from their surroundings.

      When I went to Korea this summer, we were barbequing meat next to a river for lunch when my grandmother's youngest sister's husband (so technically one of my grandfathers,) made a jab at black people. Having been raised in multicultural America where those kinds of jokes aren't appreciated, I didn't expect anyone to laugh. But EVERYONE laughed, except my younger brother and my dad. I've probably never been so disappointed in my mom as I was that day; she's welcomed my black friends over to our house before. She was being so two-faced.
      My point is that not everyone in Korea is open-minded about foreigners, particularly people with colored skin. But don't take it to heart. The younger (and larger) generation is far more open-minded about getting to know foreigners because they have had more exposure to the internet and thus other cultures around the world. Really, Korea is such a fantastic place to live :) and there are lots of foreigners (mostly military kids) who live in places Yongsan, Daegu, Gwangju (I think?) so there are schools set up for them and they all speak English and teach in English...it's great :)
      But if you ever plan to live there, brush up on your bargaining skills; they like to con you into paying lots of money for cheap goods. I got ripped off about thirty thousand won on a pair of cheap-ass shoes -_-

    I don't think Koreans/Asians understand how ignorant they are when they make fun of black people. Like when Chanyeol and Luhan made fun of Kai and Tao's skin (when they are literally one shade darker than they are. You may say, "Oh, it's just a joke. Stop being so butthurt and get over it." But then again, if I made fun of your precious "Oppa", you'd literally try to shut me down. You don't understand how it feels because you aren't black. Try to put yourself in our position before posting such ignorance.
