American review of the NEW British horror/comedy puppet TV series, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared!

- Join me for a home vlog! I’m American and I’ll be reviewing the NEW to British TV series, Don’t Hug Me. I’m Scared. There will only be minimal spoilers in my review, with warning beforehand. This originally came out 11 years ago as a super popular RUclips web series that received over 70 million views! I absolutely love puppetry so this has been one of my favorite things to watch since I was little! I actually reviewed this on Jim Henson’s birthday!
If you live in Europe then you can watch Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, the NEW TV show on Channel 4. If you don’t live in Europe, you can still watch it but you’ll need to set your device’s VPN to a place in Europe and then watch it on Channel 4’s website. You can actually google a tutorial on how to change your VPN on your device. That’s what I did.
You could always watch the original RUclips series of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared from 2011. Then you can see what it’s all about without hacking your device lol. There’s 6 original short episodes available on RUclips. The new British TV show has much longer, more in depth episodes. I highly recommend watching both!
The show combines live action, puppetry, traditional animation, flash animation, clay animation, and computer animation. The puppetry is impressive and the set is amazing and creative looking! My favorite part of the show is all the weird songs! They are catchy, sinister and hilarious!
The series parodies and satirizes other similar looking TV programs by contrasting this childlike environment against disturbing themes. The episodes have a surreal plot twist in the climax, including psychedelic content and imagery involving graphic violence, dark humor, existentialism, and psychological horror.
There are three main characters: a yellow childlike human with blue hair and overalls, an anthropomorphic green mallard duck with a plaid coat, and a red humanoid with a mop-like head. They have no names but are often referred to as Yellow Guy, Duck and Red Guy.

Love this review!! Did you also notice that Red guy and Duck seemed to have some weird romantic tension? Especially in the last episode I was like 🤨Interesting... haha
I DID NOTICED THAT! Immediately after the ‘I like looking at you’ me and my friend just looked at eachother, like there’s no straight explanation for that- also in The ep where where duck was talking about family and it cut off at red guy, now I’m wondering if he was going to say he’s the mom lol, thanks for the comment!

Also in the death episode when he kept stating Red guy was his best friend and hes like "..no im not-" and he refused to let yellow guy speak on behalf of him at the funeral haha! Like didn't expect their relationship to be like that but am not entirely against it? And no problem! keep up with the good vids, you just gained a follower!! :)

Yep. Episode 5 from the original is easily the scariest imo. "You shouldn't eat food from a stranger's plate!" *shudders*
It really is! It’s one of my favorites because of that! seeing duck with realistic meat in him in a world mostly made of felt is so creepy, but I think all meat is creepy in the show for that reason. But just the and the uncomfortableness of ep five, definitely the scariest by far, thanks for watching!!

Awe Lol all 3 of my cats were trying to get into the bedroom when I was filming this. I kept seeing their little paws reaching under the door. Next time I’ll make sure Mash Potatoes makes an appearance for your sister! 😊

FINALLY, someone else who caught the “we live in an actual nightmare” connection!
YEAH! They did foreshadowing in the intro like twice, with that and then red guys break down in transport, and also the yellow guy ‘I’m the one who had a dream’ where it was definitely foreshadowing the 6th ep!!!! Thanks!!!!

Red guy is hotter in the TV show then in the og. I feel like all the character (rg, yg & d) have alot more character and charm for them in the TV show. Yellow guy used to be my least favorite, but after episode six and three... Well hes still my least favorite but I like him way more than I did before.
PFFFTWHAKHE YEAH! YOU RIGHT! I love what they did with all of the characters, especially yellow guy, who definitely did have a good character in the original, but was far better story and personality wise in the new show! Thanks for the comment!
