    All quiet on the western front had a (2) movie adaptation(s), it's not only a war movie, it's also a horror movie. (Reffering to the black and white version)
    One of the single frames that’s burned into my mind from that film is when a soldier grabs a piece of barbed wire with both hands as a artillery shell hits him. All that is left of him after are both of his hands still firmly grasping the barbed wire.
    Nothing below his wrists is left.
    This was put in the movie because a ww1 veteran told the film makers of how he saw this exact thing happen on the battlefield.
    I hold nothing but the utmost respect for those who fight and have fought in the military as they face the reallest horrors this world has in store.

      @@BeyondHorrorGaming I heard that they asked quite a few Veterans about their experiences as research.
      So you can safely assume that everything you see in the movie is entirely realistic.
      I mean. Any darker war movie is probably quite realistic. Because even if they weren't researched as well and not taken from personal experience, reality is always worse than what some filmmakers can come up with on their own.
      The "Attack of the Dead Men" during WW1 probably looked like straight out of The Walking Dead. Just that everyone was still fully sentient. There is a good reason why chemical warfare is nowadays considered a war crime. Bombs and shells, by comparison, are pretty much an ideal way to go.
      Or look up Anthrax Island. Nearly uninhabited since WW2, because nobody wanted to risk getting exposed to the disease that was tested there once. Lung Anthrax, for context, has a survival rate of about 2%. WITH immediate treatment. The disease can also stay dormant in your body for decades.
      When it comes to war:
      It can always get worse.

      @BeyondHorrorGaming  Месяц назад +2

      @@toolatetothestory Thats probably the best way to make a truly dark and realistic war movie for sure.
      And again, thanks for sharing this info; I looked up Anthrax and holy crap that stuff is the stuff of nightmares. But yeah, unfortunately, it can get worse.

    Don’t remember which battle field game but the 1st mission I died and thought ok I know where not to take cover for next time, then the reality set in immediately that the character you played as is gone forever as you take the view of another with a completely different mission…

      Yes, I DO distinctly remember playing BF:BC2 for the first time and experiencing that. Although what you explained just now did not explicitly make itself known to me; rather it was just a passing thought. Damn, I am never going to look BF the same way again the next time I die and the screen jumps to another soldier on another part of the map.

    War Trauma makes for good psychological horror.
    Recently I learned that war trauma was the reason why group therapy was invented, actually.
    To make WW1 Veterans ready for the front again when WW2 came around.

    WW1 was truly a horrible war, no wonder why it would make a good setting for horror games or survival horror games cause sometimes you don't need a actual monster or supernatural horror, cause the horrors of war of ww1 is already enough to break someone psychologically.

      @@BeyondHorrorGaming Yeah, also when Conscript comes out (a ww1 survival horror game akin to resident evil but top down) hope you can make a video on it although the horror in that game is more surviving and scavenging the trenches during the battle of Verdun at Fort Douamont which that battle battle lasted for 303 days and nights and was to many soldiers the epitome of the brutality of ww1.

    When I was younger I loved war games like COD and Brothers in Arms but now I like war games Ad Infinitum and would love more games that explore the human side. Brothers in Arms actually does touch on that a bit which I enjoy

    Holy shit you only have 200 subs?! Dude this level of quality is impressive.
    I wont just praise you too much though since i think that isnt really helpful. Sometime your mike would start popping, noticeable during the introduction primarily, and i might suggest turning down background audio a bit. Your voice is a little soft when coming out of a speaker so its hard to pick out your words during the parts with war audio.
    But those are small issue's, the foundation of your great writing and the well organized layout of the video more then make up for my personal audio issues.
    Now onto the actual topic, i find you're points excellently summarize my views on the games. Personally the most effective part for me was the genuine terror i felt when walking through the gas for the first time. And then subsequently the realization i had after finishing the game.
    When i first walked through the could i was paranoid, this stuff blinded me, left me vulnerable, scared and uneasy at the fact that anything could appear around the corner and kill me by simply cracking the fragile glass in said mask.
    Then, when looking back at the...birdthing, the name is slipping me, i realized when moving through the gas you became numb to its danger, mindlessly taking the mask on and off like an automaton whenever i saw that sickly mustard color. After thinking on that moment i asked myself.
    "Is that what happened to the actual soldiers? Did they really end up having to confront man made horrors beyond on comprehension and become as numb to it as one does the cold?"
    This game, it made me understand just how horrifying it must have been to be in these fights. How and why someone can simply...never come back..even when he lives, a part of the soldiers soul died when they entered that trench and it will never be set free.

    • @BeyondHorrorGaming
      @BeyondHorrorGaming  Месяц назад +1

      Hey I really appreciate that! I love constructive feedback.
      Honestly, I have been battling with audio forever and can never seem to find the right balance. I keep messing with it to see if I will ever find that right point where my mic wont pop or sound bad, then trying to balance with the background noise is another battle.
      I will keep working on improving and I genuinely appreciate you offering his advice to me 🙏🏾
      And thank you for the feedback on the writing, it took me a while to write and I actually wish I had mentioned what you said about “becoming numb”. Thats an excellent point that slipped right past me and would have been such a great concept to really nail down on.
      Again, thank you for your input; I appreciate your time above all.
      🍻
