    Paul Antonio also explain the cheap way to start. At first I struggled with the nib coating and ink consistency, the ink just flushed on the paper feathering and railhoading while pressing down. He said in a video to spit the nib and mix the ink with some gum arabic to write on cheap printer paper. Keep inspiring us guys.

    Thanks for the post Milen. The music really does add so much to it. I also just realised it is the variable width and weight video. So important to set the intention of which style of the script you are aiming for.

    Thank you for this video. Since you asked, I love the nib sounds. I like the background music on all your videos, but since I love the nib sounds I would also enjoy some videos that had sections with no music and only nib sounds.

    Oddly enough, though I was taught Copperplate with an oblique holder, I find I do most of my writing with a fountain pen using a Zebra G nib. Once I got used to that, I dumped the oblique altogether. For some reason, I don't have nearly as much trouble with the nib tip digging into the paper using a straight holder as I did with an oblique!

    • @PAScribe
      @PAScribe 4 года назад +2

      The lower nib in an oblique has a greater tendency to catch in the page.

      You must be able to produce a minimum of 5 weights of alphabets with the same nib. I might have to do a longer video to show this.

    Hey, First off, I like the video. However, I hate some of the things that I read in the video, specifically about asking questions. Telling a beginner not to ask what kind of pen, or paper, is being used "because it's not important for a beginner" is rather dismissive. I would think one of the things a beginner absolutely needs to know is what type of nib, what the weight of the paper is, and what kind of ink is used. Granted, it doesn't need to be asked often, and a sticky telling people what is being used may reduce the amount of times you receive this question; but it is still important to know what type of nibs to use for which script. Maybe I'm wrong. Other than that, Great video.

      Most people want that info as though it's going to help them be better at art or calligraphy, when the truth is you could practice the shapes with a pencil and be doing more for yourself than the time you'd spend trying to get all the right nibs, etc. I think what they mean is that the practice is way more important than the tools. Any good art teacher will tell you this and frankly I agree with the poster. So many videos with comments asking about the tools when it's already answered or is in the description. People don't bother to read. It must be so annoying as a creator to read all those.

    • @KeanuReevolution
      @KeanuReevolution Месяц назад +1

      No, it's true. As a beginner, you should focus on technique and practice. Learn how the letters are written. And focusing on materials is gonna prevent you from that. Don't get held up with materials. You can do calligraphy with pencils, random scraps of paper, or a cheap pen/nib. Plus preferences can be important. Even if something is great quality, you may not enjoy using it. Once you build technique, then you can learn the different materials to hone in your calligraphy to your preferences. It's more dismissive to assume these experts aren't interested in teaching beginners than to realize they are saying something for a reason that you can educate yourself on

    Given that calligraphers like Suzanne Cunningham and others also use an oblique pen holder, would you say there's only one way to produce this script? Paul's work is beautiful as is Telmo Nunes' (another straight holder user) but so is the work of other calligraphers, Suzanne, Nikolietta, Ken Fraser, tri.shiba, Flavio Sarti... The list goes on.

    You have people on this page doing Copperplate with oblique holders. I've watched the videos How can you say it's wrong?

    • @PAScribe
      @PAScribe 3 года назад +1

      Historically the script was written with a straight holder. The letters are designed that way. An oblique holder cannot produce some of the shapes necessary to make the letters. It also instigates a shift in the deposition of the shades.

      The nib has to be flexible, so when pressure is applied it splits on the top and more ink flows on the paper, that helps to make the strokes thicker. The thick and thin strokes is what makes this lettering so beautiful.

    • @PAScribe
      @PAScribe 4 года назад +1

      This is a Hunt22b nib. Being a leftie is all about getting the hold correct. Once you sort that out they writing will fall into place. You can also start with a pencil.

    Paul I can’t find a way to contact you so hope this finds you well. I was possibly interested in purchasing the book but have a couple questions. There were a couple free downloads in addition to the book. I am assuming these are excerpts from the book not the whole book? Also does it change the denomination for American Dollars vs British pounds? I don’t have an issue purchasing the book just don’t want to if what I already downloaded is a complete copy

      You are wrong there. These are jots. This is WRITING if you have to draw a circle and fill it. You are not writing you are drawing. That breaks the rhythm of the writing. It is all about movement in real time.
