My pores literally refill within ONE DAY
SAMEEEeee!!! Omg they're so annoying rite? Does ur nose feels bumpy and rough too?
@@potatoes3212 mine does feel bumpy. Using the cosrx whitehead power essence but so far no effect
Samantha Chong what should i doooo😭💔💔
@@Moonlight-ht4ex we have to keep using salicylic based toner or cleanser I guess. It might take a while
Me too! I recently started using the Paulas Choice 2% salicylic acid toner twice a day & its been 2 full weeks & their gone! Skin completely smooth! I had these on my chin, tons of texture/ irritation on my cheeks, hormonal & 1 or 2 cystic acnes & white heads on my cheeks as well...but not no morreeee! The paulas choice 2% salicylic acid toner literally cleaned out my pores deep down where you can't clean & all that extra sebum & dead skin cells would come to the surface. Then in the morning id rinse my face just with water or if it was too greasy I would just wash it & all this was for only 2 weeks! Its truly transformed my face & will continue to use the 2% salicylic acid toner. You should try it out👍
*Video notes*
- Use 2% salicylic acid face wash
Don’t let it dry - it makes it worse!
- leave for 2 mins only and after rinsing it off , use oil-free moisturiser/moisturising sunscreen
- don’t use spin brush or exfoliating pad - can worsen sebaceous filaments and acne
- retinoid / retinol
Thank you so much :)
Thanks!
Thank u this helped alot
Can I use a salicylic acid cream instead of a face wash?
@@haera7142I’m not a dermatologist, but I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to use it in a cream form, as you’re not supposed to leave it on for long. I hope I helped :)

Happy Friday!
I love this lady.. she's single handedly setting quite the high bar for other skincare youtubers.
I just watched a video of Jeffrey star describing himself as a skincare expert. Hahahahaa
I hope dermatologists like Dr Dray doing youtube videos will now put a stop to influencers with no credentials putting out information on skin care. A lot of teenagers will have ruined face if they follow the wrong people

Hell yes!!!
I do not believe that after so many years I finally found out what it was and how to deal with it. My skin is dry, but this problem, unfortunately, did not pass me by. Thanks! Now I will know how to deal with it.
I always thought mine were blackheads

go to a dermatologist
Same. Dermatologists (at least in AZ) aren’t as knowledgeable as Dr. Dray. It’s like they didn’t even go to college. 🥴
kierstin that cost a lot and some dont know what they are talking about and them it becomes a waste of money
@@elviseinstein5944 my life story. Never visit a dermat unless u r 100% sure he/she is the best. I have wasted a lot of money on products & treatments. One will puke once they see my face now.😥😥😭

When the salesgirls at the counters try to recommend me stuff I don't need, I tell them my " dermatologist" would not approve. Meaning you.
The Ordinary 2% salicylic acid leave on product in a gel-like vehicle also very good. No irritation or dryness even to my superssensitive, rosacea-affected skin.
Is it for all the face or just around acne areas?

Thank you, Dr. Dray for taking the time to do these videos! I feel so fortunate to have found your channel. You have helped me and my daughter improve our skin care issues so much! Me at 51 and she at 21, obviously, we have different skin care concerns and your product recommendations have been spot on. Thank you again for all you do for your subscribers!
Thank you for watching :) Hope you are having a good week
Thanks! I have been battling these in the creases of my nose for YEARS!
thanks for watching
Yes and I hate wearing foundation because of it, it looks flakey in the nose crease. I kept using my blackhead Whitehead tool and wasnt getting nothing out of it
And they are probably the most delicate part of the skin. A simple exfoliation causes my skin to crack there.
You taught me not to hate salicylic acid!! Thank you! Prior to your videos, I had only known salicylic acid in the form of leave on treatments (from my teen years), and it left me so dry and irritated. So, I’ve avoided it all of these years, just to learn from you that we can use it in the form of a wash that we rinse off for beneficial results! So, again, thank you so much!!
Although I know what Dr. Dray is talking about, I would appreciate visual aids/pictures in the video when she's taking about SF or different forms of acne.
She should honestly just start her own skincare line omg
Different skill set
tbh
What she really needs to do is make a website where you can select what afflictions you have and it'll choose what products to buy. Lots of people don't even know what they have, leading to them buying the wrong products, or even ones that conflict with one another, thereby causing more irritation.
I was just in the shower having shower-thoughts and one of them was that I wondered if Dr. Dray has a video on sebaceous filaments because I have struggled with them on my nose since becoming a young adult 😫 and here it is! Awesome!! ☀️
:)
Shower-thoughts. 😂. Been there.
I do my best thinking in the shower

This is my new go to channel for skincare as an aesthetician. I just watched your review on sunscreens and it got me up to the drug store in the middle of the night to get a few. You rock!
I have a lot of these all over my chin. I never knew what they were and always assumed they were just really small whiteheads lol. Thank you so much for sharing this information Dr. Dray!
I came back to say thank you 🙏🏾 !! I had really bad Sebaceous Filaments on my chin that were horribly noticeable. I used the CeraVe SA cleanser and I noticed results almost instantaneously.
Thank you, I’m going to try this
meowy definitely try it and stay consistent!
How many times a week do you use the cleanser?
4booky once daily if I feel I need a touch up maybe before I go to bed too. Also I’ve been using witch hazel as a toner which has been helping with overall evenness in skin tone.
JanayxLovexLight do you also use another cleansers or that’s the only cleanser you use?
I love that here you get advises based on scientific knowledge about how certain ingredients react with skin. This is what makes these advises different from the ones of beauty gurus.
thanks for watching
I am SO happy you did a video about this. I have been trying to figure out what this is for what seems like forever. I feel like my skin is trying to spew out the gunk in my large pores and not being completely successful. I have fallen behind on remembering to use Differin gel every night, and this is yet ANOTHER reason to use it. I feel like Differin is a holy grail. Thank you for all the info, it really helps!
You’re looking so lively lately, you’re beautiful.
Omggggggg I’ve been looking for the names of these things since FOREVER!
THANK YOU😭✨
My sebaceous filaments are soooo bad on my nose growing up people always told me to wash my face. I’m finally over that but this will help me a lot to reduce the look of them. Thank you!
I've been researching about facial skin alot these days because I've always been acne prone since high school and my face is just flaring up these days. So I wanted to clear my skin up and I stumbled across Dr Dray's videos and these are actually really helpful. I've noticed these "oil clogged pores as I call them" on my chin too. I thought they're white heads. . Also, my forehead has closed comedones (which I just learned from her other video). I guess I just had a really bad skin genetics. I envy people born with just good skin genes because they never have to worry about these things.
I have used Paula’s choice BHA and differin, and while both helped my overall complexion, nothing has gotten rid of sebaceous filaments. I don’t struggle with acne at all, but this is my cross to bear, apparently 🤷♀️ Great video, tho!!! 💗
Same here. Sebaceous filaments aren't going anywhere, and I've found that some actives actually make them look more prominent. Less is more, imo.
@@watsappenin2865 stay strong, it gets better
this is just the second vid in her channel that i watched but i feel like she's literally summarized my whole life in two videos: sebaceous filaments. i'm crying. been struggling with this for a long time.
i love how everytime you watch one of dr.drays videos you always end up expanding your knowledge, her channel truly is one of a kind ❤️
I also have these but I could never find their name. So grateful for this video, thank you!

Lorna Donnelly omg is that actually a thing? Lol
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I can do this for hoursssssss. Love when they come out in one whole plug
I have had this on my chin for years and never knew what it was. It was super frustrating to try everything to get rid of it, to no avail. With your recommendation of the Effaclar, it is finally starting to clear. Ive also ditched my Clarisonic, and i believe my skin has veen much happier. Thank you so much for the great info!!
When people make videos of themselves using pore strips and show the used strip with all the white bits on it, I think what mostly comes off is this stuff, not blackheads. There are always people arguing over it in the comments, lmao, it made me curious if there was anything happening there or not. It's nice to know there are better options for handling this than a god-awful nose pore strip.
These always make my foundation look terrible on my nose and chin areas! I always thought they were whiteheads that wouldn't go away. Thank you for educating us!
Omg yes!!! I have that. I'm particularly annoyed when I come out the shower and there's little white heads around my nose and on my chin. I always take a towel to rub it off (sorry I know I shouldnt) I will buy a cleanser like you said! Goodbye weird skin!!
I have PCOS so I’ve been working with both my dermatologist and my endocrinologist. My face has cleared up SO MUCH thank God! I had problems with cystic acne since I turned about 34. I also studied esthetics for 2 years-I still learn so much from you, I still have minor breakouts and I have combo skin so your videos are awesome! I just picked up the new Cereve acne wash-can’t wait to try it!! ❤️
Paula's Choice BHA works so well. It kept my skin clear and even. I need to order more. I was using Neutrogena salicylic acid grapefruit wash. My cheeks broke out in painful bumps. That was only from a few days of using. Definitely going back to Paula's Choice. Thank you for all the information.
Thanks for providing so many great videos! I'm an esthetician, and after licensure, finding consistent continuous education that I can access easily is such a challenge. You are one of a few great resources I LOVE watching and always find so helpful- I literally, can use each piece of knowledge every day.
Salicylic acid has never worked for me, I've tried so many different things, and even moisturizers that are oil-free and made for people with acne/oily skin make these way worse for me, but after watching this I think I may have been doing it wrong 🤔...thank you for these tips, I can't wait to try them! Also, thank you SO much for recommending some actually affordable products-- hate watching these videos nd being unable to try what they say because the products are out of this world expensive! New subscriber! ❤
use tea tree oil. my nose and chin were covered in them until i used REAL, 100% tea tree oil. i covered a cotton swab with it to spot treat my acne and then rubbed it onto the sebaceous filaments. it worked so quick i was shocked. if you have sensitive skin definitely dilute bc it was really tingly.
I’m going to try this!
A meat sauce yay :-) i hope it works out well for you
How about dr. Bronners tea tree oil
Omg. I love this. I tried what you recommended and I already see a difference 😭😭 thanks for passing on your expert dermatology advice to bitches who are to broke to go. Love you.
Can you tell me what she recommended in the video?
Thank you for these amazing videos. I suffer from closed comedones and sebaceous filaments and not a lot of people have the same type of skin as me. Glad I came across your channel.

This works so well! I’ve been trying for years to get rid of the awful texture of my skin!
Thank you so much, all these years I’ve been thinking these were stubborn white heads. Now thanks to you I know how to tackle them.
I have them on my nose and they’re so visible it makes me insecure. Thank you for this

For decades I thought they were white heads. 🙀 You are the first dermatologist to tell me exactly what they are.
I know you recommend avoiding leave-on SA products, but CosRX Blackhead Power Liquid is the BEST thing that has ever happened to my nose! It has both salicylic acid and hyaluronic acid. It's sooooo gentle and effective! Love it! It took about a week for it to work at first, but now if I go one day without it the blackheads and sebaceous filaments (thanks for the new vocab term, BTW!) come right back.
That's because it's not SA but betain salicylate which doesn't cause irritation as much.
MagicalKid would you still recommend it? I want to try a CosRX product but don't know where to start
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR WHAT THOSE LITTLE IRRITATING BUNPS ON MY SKIN FOR YEARS THANK YOU SO MUCH I CAN FINALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT
this actually works, holy cow! Been trying to clear them up for years, and keeping it on for a few minutes really dissolves them! Thank you so much!!
Legit Garbage which of the products do you use?
It seems like everyone starts a skincare line but if you ever did you have such a fantastic reputation I have no doubts everyone involved would succeed.
I have these on my nose. I also struggle with tiny black heads on my chin, area close to my nose on my cheeks and on my nose. I’ve been using the Kate Sommerville acne face cleanser. I love it but it works very minimal. Thanks for such an informative video!
I absolutely adore her. I love her videos on everything, love when her Mom is in the videos when they go shopping and I love her super dry, parched sense of humor. She is brilliant and gorgeous and I’ve watched every single video.
:)
Are these the same ones at the chin? Right below the lower lip?
Amelia Khairi
Yes. She showed a pic in the beginning.
I have them on my nose and I have been calling them blackheads. Thank you Dr Dray for sharing your knowledge on this.
I read that some of this filament, clogged pore stuff is related to vitamin A deficiency.
Thanks Dr. Dray! Maybe this is what I've heard referred to as "congested skin.' You are always so very helpful!❤
I love this channel finally somebody that breaks it down for you!
thanks for watching
I used the Paula’s BHA exfoliant daily for 2 years & it never made a difference in my sebaceous filaments. Tretinoin is the only thing that’s made an impact.
Hi Dr Dray, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and recommending products we can use. It would be really helpful if there are pictures of these pores as you are explaining :)
I learn more with you teaching me than with other youtube channels! I didn't realized I had 'SEBACEOUS FILAMENTS' until I watched your video!
I’m so happy that my face has cleared since using products you recommend 💖🥰
I’ve been wondering for years what these were on my nose! Thank, you for clarifying.
Dr Dray, the LaRoche-Posay Effaclar lists perfume (fragrance) as one of its ingredients, and that is the reason I avoid it like the plague. . I use Eucerin Dermo Purifier face wash myself, it has salicylic acid and it is soap and perfume free. Also The Ordinary's leave-on salicylic acid is alcohol free (oil and silicone free) and, naturally, perfume free. And it costs a fraction of what Paula's Choice products cost (also the latter's products tend to use silicone, which my dermatologist does not recommend for oily skin prone to blackheads).
Your skin is amazing omg. It makes sense because you’re a dermatologist. Ugh I’m jealous. Love your channel!
All these years I thought I had horrible blackheads and whiteheads on my nose then I wWent on Hyrams You tube beach and he told me about these Sebums so glad I finally know
The Effaclar Line from Roche Posay is helpful. After 2 years trying The Ordinary Products incl. Salizylic acid, didn't work for me. Lactic acid was the only one that made my skin visibly better.
I don't know if this will help anyone, but I've found an extremely affordable little salicylic acid routine. I purchase the Stridex Alcohol Free Maximum 2% SA pads, cut one of the pads in half, pat it onto clean skin (I find the texture of the pads slightly too abrasive to swipe), wait about 2 minutes, and then wash off with CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. 90 pads come in a container, and with only using half a pad at a time, I can get 180 applications from one $3-$4 container of Stridex. It's glorious.
hey dr. dray, can you talk about beard care in one of your future videos for your male subscribers???
Why do you always answer my questions without me even asking ?
😘😍
Thank you. I do use salicylic acid faithfully as a treatment but wow do I have massive amounts. If I don't treat them they get firmer and even push up like a crop!
Dr. Dray is solving all the skin mysteries!!
Your cheeks look GREAT!
I have these on my chin, and around my cheeks. When I use foundation and it's sunny outside you can definitely notice them.
You didn’t say they can be on my chin right under my lower lip, but the thumbnail looks exactly like what I have...
I haven't even finished watching this but I'm sooooo excited! I've been hoping you'd address this issue! Thank you so much!
I’ve been using the Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid and it’s very gentle. Thanks for the tips you presented!
Becky C. Thanks for watching 💙
So do you use the BHA and a cleasner with SA? Or just one is enough?
PH one should be enough, I use PC’s BHA at night
When a black light is aimed at sebaceous filaments they appear as fluorescent orange. (I have a small flashlight/black light that I use when traveling to check hotel room cleanliness.)
I wash my face everyday and have used a salicylic acid exfoliant every night for 6 months. It helped a little in the beginning but for a good while now the situation has been the same it always had. Very prominent sebacious filaments.
I have slacked off of self care, due to some bad life events but, I’m organizing to take better care of myself, in part, because family and others hope it’s the last thing I ever get to.
But, I’ve known about these sebaceous filaments for some time and I definitely have them on my nose.
For anyone who isn’t encouraged by thoughts of skincare alone, I can tell you that, whenever I have cleansed my skin well and have at least rid my skins surface of them, my nose has a nicely polished look and feel, that accepts makeup better. It is an ego booster, as opposed to the rather dull and bumpy finish of having sebaceous filaments poking out of your skin.
Thank you for the advice Dr Dray. Finally an trick to get rid of these frustratingly disgusting little buggers. Have a nice weekend.
Best BHA cleanser for the ingredients, benefits and quantity that is acne fighting and anti aging : D'Alba piedmont gel cleanser. It is cruelty free, fungal acne safe and has the perfect ph : 5.5!! It is mild and doesn't make your skin dry or extra squeaky, but it leaves your face clean and smooth!! You need however to moisturize after! Perfect for normal, combo and oily skin! For dry, it may not be the best. It cleared up my cystic acne, and just brightened my skin in less than one week 😍 I am simply in love❤
Yay finally the vid I’ve been waiting for!!
THANK YOU RUclips for recommending this...how did you know I needed to see this!! Great video 💕
I have had these things under my mouth for what feels like forever, I just thought they were closed comedones, interesting, thanks for educating me :D
Finally, someone hit the nail right on it head...thank you sis 💕
This little suckers on my nose have always made me self conscious about my face. I just started using differin gel (because you suggested it in treating acne) particularly on this area in combination with an SA cleanser the morning after and I have already noticed a significant difference in just the two days I started the routine. This was particularly amazing given that the OTC SA and BP products I’ve been using haven’t made a difference. Is using the differin going to be apart of my skincare routine forever?
Roxanna Castaneda unfortunately the answer is prlly yes. I don't have acne but I started using differin for anti aging & SF reduction. It truly was a game changing product for me, I loved it. But then something happened in my life & I was unable to maintain my skincare routine. Took about a month of no differin for my skin to go back to its "normal" baseline state... Except it seems even worse than before I tried differin! but I have no way of measuring that, so who knows...
I want to go back on differin but I don't want to be on differin for the rest of my life. So I'm at a loss. I can't win with differin, can't win without it.
@@mrs_d3n1mx28 so basically if you start using differin, you have to stick with it forever otherwise your face will be ruined?
THANK UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

For 9 months I took 1 Tetralysal 408mg capsule prescribed by my dermatologist.
I don't have the problem anymore!
My skin feels really dry but has a lot of sebaceous filaments. It’s confusing.
Always on my nose and cheeks. Fml.

I like the Paula's Choice 2% BHA as well, but not the rinse-off exfoliants, I find they rinse away and don't work very well compared to the leave on product.
