mothership despite its name is one trick recall pony + a viper ping-pong ball.
thats said arbiter is just too OP for SC2
@@ixirionI think most players just dont utelize a motherships full potential. In a recent series Max Pax used it extremly well as huge mobility buff. Together with his nexus recall he constantly repositioned his relative slow endgame army and outpositioned Dark a number of times. If you build a mothership, you should have a plan for it, otherwise, yes, its probably just wasted ressources.

you can change time warp with fungle and it will be upgrade which is hilarious. invisibility against terran and zerg is mostly useless.
Regarding recall its mostly used against zerg with too many broodlords lategame on split maps. However its use is again limited cos zerg can just attack your location and force you to recall again or basetrade.
Again not completly useless unit just kinda mostly bad.

Because what 2 recalls mean is that you can basically attack at one location, recall your army to the mothership on the other side of the map, which should give you 2 base kills, and still be able to defend at home with the nexus recall, if you need too. Yes the abilities have cooldowns, but other than maybe zerg with the nydus, no other army has that kind of mobility burst. Another tactic i recently saw was using the mothership to recall into the zerg opponents main base, kill the tech and instantly recall home after that, before the zerg has time to trap the army (which is what ususally happens when the protoss sticks around for too long). Personally i think thats quite a bit of usability you can get from the mothership for the price of less than a carrier.
@@Daniel-rd6st You actually are saying the same. only recall is viable. However you are using confirmation bias logic.
The fact are that Stats build 5-6 MS and did 1 basicaly meaningful recall. Then the strategy is so rare that players are not used to counter it. Lets continue - is it rare cos its so good and useful?
There is a good comment below - the new toss strategy is to build MS so vipers abduct them instead of carriers which are actually useful and more expensive XDD

It's so absurd that the MS can be abducted. Utterly shatters my suspension of disbelief
The best part of in-game Mothership is the weapons are just 6 sentry beams duct taped to the hull.
@@FirstLast-gk6lg It's absurd that any massive unit can be abducted really. Sure, this flying bug drags something at least 20x its size with its tongue. Makes perfect sense...

G1 Warp prism flank was definitely intentional, Stats microed the prism, 2 templar, and 1 archon away from the death ball before recalling.
Honestly the mothership is genius, you know he’s gonna be grabbing something with vipers so you shield your carriers with something slightly cheaper and maybe more tactically useful, so he chooses to grab that before the carriers, and you reach critical carrier mass at the same pace if not slightly faster because you lose less to each viper pull
Right? What the heck kind of a brilliant strategy is that. Occupy the Zerg vipers all game with trying to destroy the Mothership to stay safe from cloak/time warp and lose half as many carriers. So cool. I’d love to see more of this strategy.

I love how both the games stats won were long, drawn out battles where dark pulled stats around the map and then eventually stats was just like 'I don't think you can ever take my army in a straight-up fight. I'm gonna kill your base now, m'kay?'

stats played that game 1 so confidently wow, he yielded so much to build his mass, stuck to his mothership guns, made a decisive maneuver to prevent dark from rebuilding and then closed it out. what a game
I think this may be my GOTY. Most of the time, when someone uses box art armies, they just get rolled. This time, both players were using all the strategies that I always want to see their respective race use, and it was glorious. Game three was beautiful.
Usually when I see 'game of the year' I'd think that winter is just hyping it up, but this series really is game of the year.

Very happy to see Stats back, the next match vs Classic was also very solid.
That was one of the best series I've ever seen.

Stats is a fresh airflow for Protoss, no one in the world play mass Mothership like Stats does, no one even consider that an option =))) we need a patch to allow Mothership to siege and act a base so probes can bring money/gas back !!!

The amount of not killing each other is actually insane, just armies patrolling between their 4th and 5ths. Recreating the Gentleman Wars out here, spending 20 minutes trying to figure out a good time for both players to fight. Also Stats only won the series because they had a gentleman's agreement where Dark wouldn't press the viper button anymore.
Amazing series! Great plays by Stats. Will anyone explain to a platinum noob why disruptors are not played in pvz? On theory they fight hydras and lurkers quite well.

I feel like the only problem with stats' unit comp is no tempest. I swear you need min 6 tempest which I think is the sweet spot. Maybe there are a certain amount more for some 1 shot stat but, this just gives you a lot more range when theres engagements like 41:48 and 44:32. im just thinking dark sets up this like almost siege tank level of siege on stats' bases. if during that ENTIRE fight he was tanking a volley of 6 tempests. Just 6 shots, 6 shots, 6 shots, 6 shots, 6 shots. eventually over the course of the minute or 2 these fights went on. He will have traded so many things for these losses.

Stats now sees the 1st half of protoss MO: protect your warriors more than anything else, at all times, and they will protect everything else for you. He's already a master doing it, obviously. But beware if Stats would learn the 2nd half of protoss MO: seek to destroy enemy warriors more than anything else, at all times, and the enemy won't be able to protect anything. Beware if Stats would learn the art of Protoss ambush and flank engagement. If he does, we may well see both zerg and terrans splattered all over the floor. It does take an extremely fluid mind to do this, though - Stats seem to be one, but these are rare breed. I wish him best of luck, strong health, and tempered, wise approach to distributing his time between doing all the things which the life is about. o7

I kinda feel like a lot of people, including pro's just don't know how to use a mothership to it's potential. It should never really be with your army, it's not a fighting unit. Think of it as a mobile nexus. Sneak it around the edge of the map and use it as a portable offensive recall and then hide it again before it's killed. Flying it around on the frontlines just to get sniped by vipers is such a wasteful way to use your mothership.
I used to be an adventurer like you, and then I took mandatory military service to the knee.

Man game 1 was fun. How often do you see dark get outsmarted like that and lose from a tie in one shot in the late game??? Like never, right?
Revert the mothership back, it hurts so much to see multiple mothership dies as if its nothing, and gets rebuild as if its expendable. I don't care the damn thing is more expensive or that the handling is worse, ITS A FLYING CITY, of course its supposed to be slow and hard to turn the ship around, it emphasize the grand size and show the mothership is heavy, Now the better handling and faster movment and lower HP makes its feel light and inconsequential.

feel like oracles would've been a good addition with the viper/lurker combo. Kinda need constant sight on those things so you can actually attack them, and avoid getting abducted.
E.g. 17:31 newly created mothership pretty much instantly dead

It feels like the Mothership should really not be abduct-able. Actually it looks like it would be the thing that would do the abducting (or a phoenix-like ability or exactly phoenix ability but its an aoe ability and lasts half as long or less, as the phoenix's). I haven't seen any game where time-warp has had any significant affect.
