Dists ability to pickup and speedrun games is really unparalleled, I cant imagine his records if he stuck to one game for a long time, he seems to majorly improve every week
It wasn´t one of the first PS2 games. It was released on Gamecube in January 2005. It then was ported to PS2 in October of the same year. The PS2 was released in March 2000. So the PS2 was over 5 years old and near the end of its life cycle when the game became playable on the system. Edit: Never mind. Didn´t read the "I ever bought" initially, my bad.
I still have my GameCube copy with both disks lol. This game scared me and my twin when we where little. I couldn't play it alone because the village music scared me too much.
Watched the entire video and loved every single part of it. Like I am so deeply in love with this game that I could be watching this game videos for my whole life.
With the new Zelda game being released in 2 days, if spicee or someone else doesn't top this record before then, this will probably be the WR for a while. I assume all the other speedrunners will switch over to Zelda immediately when it comes out; I believe Dist has already said he will do just that.

Same, just did my s+ play through on hardcore after beating the game around 12 times. I had my 15th save right before the Krause fight so I had to flawless the last 3 chapters lol. Finished with 4hrs and 56 mins.

Trying to wrap my head around the DA manipulation you had here, that is such a intricate trick with delago but super interesting and potentially game breaking
Btw he was able to kill de Lago in 7 harpoons because he’s messing with the DA of the game (difficulty adjustment) so the more heals and ammo you have stockpiled the harder the game gets. That’s why speedrunners have an empty inventory it literally makes the game easier. Hence killing de lago in 7 hits on professional in a row before he goes underwater. But seriously he only saved himself 2 min tops.
Adaptive difficulty if you take hits or die multiple times it will decrease enemy health and such del lago gets hit with it especially hard doing much less damage and taking less hits to kill

The game normally counts the number of items and compares it to how well you are doing in game and compares it to your difficulty to determine damage dealt. But for the del lago fight, it does not measure how many items you have in your inventory, only your performance score. If you have a fraction or decimal in your performance score, the game gets confused the moment you chuck a harpoon and sets the difficulty to the lowest as a default. Fun fact: if you reload all of your weapons and use up your herbs before breaking boxes, the boxes will contain more valuable stuff.

Action points is a hidden value based on your gameplay that effects DA (Difficulty adjustment) - by manipulating your score to a specific value (4999.xx out of 5000 which is the max) the game is tricked and puts you on easy mode for the fight.
Watch the video for the exact setup. Basically you have to arrive at the fish farm at 5000 action points, then you get grabbed like in the video to set your action points with something with a decimal. From there follow the video because I have no idea lol
I recently got the game after hours upon hours of watching speedruns of it and it's interesting how much influence the runs have on me. I go into a segment, know the route, start doing the route, then remember "oh wait I actually want to explore and enjoy this game thoroughly" then backtrack LOL. Nowhere NEAR this level either so I'm afraid following the route would have me miss out on resources I WILL need whereas someone like Dist doesn't.
I always end up with atrocious timers for my first 2-3 runs in RE games - because I am so busy just taking things super slow and enjoyable. After like 2-4 runs of just goofing off, I tend to go ham on the speedruns. I am so bad at it, but it's fun to unlock stuff and do research on how to quickly handle chapters.

In the fishing village he performs certain actions to get his "action score", a hidden score that partly determines your current difficulty adjustment (DA), to 4999.--- out of 5000. And since the games code isnt designed to account for values with decimals properly, it doesnt know whether your DA should be at 10 or 11 so it just puts it to 0, or 1 maybe, but either way it basically puts the game on easy mode until your action score changes

Haven’t watched the full run yet, but as I know, rescuing the white wolf will increase the hp of el gigante to compensate the help from the wolf. So for the speedrun purposes it’s probably a bad thing to do.

I used to speed run the OG RE4, it was easier due to a more predictable RNG than this one. The mob mentality is hard to predict and counter. I had a good time watching this video, very impressed!!!

Starting village part is insane. I hate most of the game because of my skill issue, but the village part at the beginning of the game is something I really hate. I got S rank on professional ng+ with the infinite handcannon, and I'm going for the S+ professional, but I know I'm gonna be stuck there because of frame perfect parries and RNG. Can someone here in the comments explain to me why he only needed 7 spears to kill Del Lage? When I'm playing on Professional difficulty, this boss is a run killer every time. It feels like I need 20 spears to take him down. Does it make a difference where on the body you throw the spears? I'm puzzled...

wow i cant wait to follow along with this game to go through a run faster. Proceeds to glitch through half the game on exploits not available anymore, somehow glitches into a rocket launcher on a new game file and destroys every boss. wow awesome

There is a very specific tech that is determined by your action points by the time you reach Del Lago. If you have a specific amount (I think it's like 5000? Or just sub of it), it tricks the game into lowering the Difficulty Adjustment to its lowest setting, substantially reducing Del Lago's health.
@@jhieindra By manipulating Action Points to X999.yz, it allows the DA (difficulty adjustment) to become 0 (instead of 10-11 on Professional Difficulty). Del Lago locks your DA, so it stays at 0 after the first harpoon. The first harpoon is DA 10-11 followed by 6 harpoons at DA 0 (DA 0 harpoons deal 230 damage).

I used to speed run the OG RE4, it was easier due to a more predictable RNG than this one. The mob mentality is hard to predict and counter. I had a good time watching this video, very impressed!!!

Starting village part is insane. I hate most of the game because of my skill issue, but the village part at the beginning of the game is something I really hate. I got S rank on professional ng+ with the infinite handcannon, and I'm going for the S+ professional, but I know I'm gonna be stuck there because of frame perfect parries and RNG. Can someone here in the comments explain to me why he only needed 7 spears to kill Del Lage? When I'm playing on Professional difficulty, this boss is a run killer every time. It feels like I need 20 spears to take him down. Does it make a difference where on the body you throw the spears? I'm puzzled...

Adaptive difficulty manipulation cheese expoit. You apparently get grabbed just before the fight to lower your AD to a decimal value and trick the game into putting you at the lowest adaptove difficulty intended to be reached only on the easiest difficulty, thus giving Del Lago the lowest hp possoble in the game.@@alexislaaplanadora
The game have a mechanic that if you are lower accuracy, your game kinda change your difficulty at some point. This works exclusive for del lago
He games the adaptive difficulty. Watch the fish village. He arrived at max adaptive difficulty then lets one of the NPC's grab him which due to a glitch adjusts the AD to 4999.5 and this confuses the game into setting Del Lago to easy mode.
The devs patched this out very quickly so it doesn't work now, but he's playing on an early patch.

wow i cant wait to follow along with this game to go through a run faster. Proceeds to glitch through half the game on exploits not available anymore, somehow glitches into a rocket launcher on a new game file and destroys every boss. wow awesome

Glitches … the early version of the game sets the dynamic difficulty to low when you pause buffer often times before the Lago fight

There is a very specific tech that is determined by your action points by the time you reach Del Lago. If you have a specific amount (I think it's like 5000? Or just sub of it), it tricks the game into lowering the Difficulty Adjustment to its lowest setting, substantially reducing Del Lago's health.

@@jhieindra By manipulating Action Points to X999.yz, it allows the DA (difficulty adjustment) to become 0 (instead of 10-11 on Professional Difficulty). Del Lago locks your DA, so it stays at 0 after the first harpoon. The first harpoon is DA 10-11 followed by 6 harpoons at DA 0 (DA 0 harpoons deal 230 damage).
