Jeff, I have a 17 foot center console fishing boat, and I have watched hours and hours and hours of your videos. You have taught me more about my boat than other boaters that I know in person. Thanks for these videos, and for being passionate about boating.

Chris, thanks for sharing. Your feedback really invigorates us to keep sharing and growing this community of boaters who want safe and reliable electrical systems.

Great video as always , is the Furono 16" MFD compatible with B and G itemS via the NEMA Set up and what Transducer/CHIRP would you recommend that is compatible with a BandG set up thx

B&G and Furuno will exchange data over NMEA 2000 or 0183. But, they won't share radar content, or even bottom profile imaging.

DSC is “Digital Select Calling” not “Distress Signal Call”...used for distress calling, but also so much more.

Who would you suggest to do an installation in southwest florida?

Good question, but since we are based in North Western North America, don't know. Anybody can make a suggestion?

Vector files are much smaller than raster files and still give much better resolution.

@2.00. I could not agree more. Just got back from spending 2 full days on a 42' Sport tuna, built in 2013. Post the boat builder, some asshole and Cousin Eddie went onboard to wire up a SeaKeeper, a stereo and 850watts of underwater lighting.
    Oh
    My
    God.
$1,000,000 boat and the entire electrical system was so bastardized I couldn't believe it. I can understand a mid 1980's Crusiers Inc shitbox, but not something like this. I was appalled with what I saw, repaired and had to suggest for future re-do.
    :(

Am I required to have Radar? Radar is not required on vessels under 1600 GT (33 CFR 164.35), however, Rule 7 states that proper use shall be made of radar equipment if fitted and operational. In other words, whoever has one must use it. The Navigation Rules are not meant to discourage the use of any device, rather they expect prudent mariners to avail themselves of all available means appropriate...as to make full appraisal of the situation (Rule 5), e.g. the use of radar. At issue is whether the use of radar is appropriate in the prevailing circumstances and that is a determination made by the Master; and, ultimately decided by a trier of fact.
Should you be in a collision how would a judge/jury rule on your contention that the use of radar was impracticable (due to electrical drain, crew shortages, etc.)? Also, if a collision does occur, then there was obviously a risk of collision beforehand. Could the determination of that risk have been made sooner with the use of radar? It is difficult to answer such questions because the circumstances of each case are different.

Hi Rss3781, thanks for a refreshing perspective on this matter, you bring lots of good points.

Raster charts get blurry is you zoom in too much...vector charts give sharp images at much higher zoom as compared to raster.

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  3 года назад

Yep, totally true. Although some boaters like the familiar look of Raster charts.

More Bla bla bla... I this and I that and I am a boater. Get down to showing for example, a new installation from A - Z. Show a refit. Stop talking about yourselves
