Glad you enjoyed it Big Ron, I'm not exactly sure why the water was so blue, but it definitely did make for some nice video :-) Thanx again for your viewing support!!! Much appreciated :-)
Nice. I'm assuming that it's a quarry for either shale or slate or both, since that is the most common rock substance in the area. I wonder if they were using that for construction on the main island (Kelly's). Cheers.
I'm sure with a lil Google'ing we could find out more information about LaFarge, and this particular quarry. But from what little I know already, this quarry has been shut down for about 6 years. What they quarry on Kelley's is Limestone, and guess is, most of it is shipped elsewhere. I know of 3 abandoned quarries on the island, the first of which is directly next to the Glacial Grooves, and can be easily seen in that video ruclips.net/video/vao_0745k6I/видео.html
An interesting feature of the rock at Kelleys Island is that it appears to be solid fossils. I believe the fossils there date to the Silurian Period, that is 443.8 to 419.2 MYA (Million Years Ago)--WAY before the dinosaurs. As you walk around the "town" area--the church, perhaps--look at the chunks of stone--fossils! Caution: don't chisel the fossils out. There are enough fossils for everyone in other places.
Not if the people who live on KI have a say in it. They have shut down other larger developments...but anything can change. The charm of KI is keeping it lost in time unlike PIB and the train wreck that can be at times!
Wow amazing
That was some great views, water had some great color. : ))
I agree, surpising mix of blues and greens. Minerals left after the mining??

My dad did some of the blasting there in the late 70s. Also on Johnson's island.
What's the name of the band and song that was played? It went well with the video.

I looked them up. They are now a part of Marblehead Supply, and furnish conglomerate used in 'ready mix' and other concrete products.

Whose is it
Is it always this blue?
Nice footage. Don't you ever sleep?
Sleep is for the weak!!! ROFLMAO
Some day a developer will cut a channel to Lake Erie and build houses on it like they did on Johnson's Island.
