The use of willow branches with willow flowers is interesting. I am from Middle Europe and where I am from they are used in a christian context instead of palm leaves (that obviously don't grow here) on the sunday before easter. I always wondered whether there was an older prechristian Germanic or Celtic tradition behind it (Like with the christmas tree). Funny that sometimes different cultures develop similar traditions.
