She did her father proud. May he rest in peace with his name remembered now.
@Khanjikai, well said!! I am so impressed by Lori’s tenacity to not let his whereabouts go unanswered and here she has found him and has established a FB page in hopes of finding who and why someone caused her biological father’s death. Lori grew up to be a wonderful woman that yes, her father would be proud of.
I’m so glad that she never gave up her quest to find her father and I’m so sorry to hear that he passed away. Rest in peace, Winston ❤️🕊️
Poor Winston. He never really lived a life. Well presented as always DC.
My daughter was adopted at 3 days old in 1981, she was also born in Idaho and her mother also stayed at the same home for unwed mothers as this lady did. Her Mom was 16, her father 18. She knew that a marriage with him, especially at their age would never work out, so she made the tough decision for adoption. Luckily, the agency through which we adopted kept in touch with us and also her birth mom, and when my daughter was 17, they met. This answered a lot of questions for my daughter, she found out that her birth mom married someone else later and she has 3 younger half siblings to her delight. She also has met her birth father although she hasn’t kept in touch with him. We enjoy a nice relationship with her birth family.
Beautiful story.
Nice!
What a mature mentality you have, Naomi, because you let your adopted daughter to know her birth mother. God bless your life and take care of you!
What a good looking handsome young man, i feel really sorry for Winston he never got the chance for a life and to meet his daughter. Heartbreaking.
❤ The lead actor in Saltburn looks just like him!!!!
😬 I do!
He was small, young and good looking. His good looks probably got him into trouble. Probably hitch hiking and picked up by a pervert. That would be why his pants weren't on
How bittersweet 😢 his daughter came looking for her dad, and after all the searching, a deceased young man gets his identity back and his daughter (in a way ) it's incredibly sad but it's got a silver lining, hopefully he wasn't murdered and it was some tragic incident, I hope his daughter finds the answers!
Btw her father was incredibly handsome 😮
Wasn't he so sad so young 😢
It's ironic that he was called 'frog' boy as he was classically very handsome. He could have been an actor or model.
Kind of like the frog that is actually a prince in fairy tales
Well they didn’t know that when naming him. He was so badly decomposed.
Very handsome young man. R.I.P Winstin. You are not forgotten. Y I u have a daughter tat lives you because blood screams out to blood .
@@marjayasmr yep, I'm aware of that. Poor boy.
Chill out though he was underaged
That was a very sad case. Thankfully Winston was finally identified and his biological daughter knows who he was.
Very sad that Winston's life ended-possibly by homicide- at the age of 16 but to have law enforcement refer to him as 'frog boy' is both rude and insulting. Thanks to his daughter he isn't a John Doe anymore. RIP young wanderer.
The explanation was to give him a name that would get attention and not be forgotten. The detective that gave him the name said that he was hoping that if it didn't get solved during his career, the name would keep the attention of subsequent detectives. It wasn't chosen as an insult. It was chosen because they cared.
Seconding this comment.
@@VioletJoy That makes me feel a little better. I was just imagining his daughter wondering who her birth Father was all those years, excited to meet him finally and then finding out he died as a child, barely 16 and for years was a John Doe known only as 'frog boy'. I would have called him 'The Snedden Creek Adventurer' or something. Anyway I am glad DC covered this case and that he has his actual name back. I had never heard of this case before this. Cheers.
Whats wrong with frogs?
When a body is left in the water it bloats. Not sensitive but likely accurate unfortunately.
Bless Lori on her continued search for answers. Beautiful and with so much life force, rest in peace Winston❤
I really appreciate cases like this being brought to light. It’s likely it’ll never be solved but we’ll never know if they are buried

So amazing how this science can bring families together. But the hearts still have to be open. Simple genetics will never be enough.

RE: Case Names--
I can tell you as a medicolegal death investigator (deputy coroner) that something beige like Sneddon Creek John Doe is long and indistinguishable and isn't going to stick in people's minds like a shorter more descriptive nickname. You don't have to like the practice, but there could be several Sneddon Creek John Does, however, there's only one Frog Boy. In all the official paperwork, he'd have gone by a case number, something like OR-CBSO4039-1971. Given his physical description, they could have nicknamed him Fabian or Hollywood, something that rolls off the tongue faster and is easier to remember than OR-CBSO4039-1971. Names like Frog Boy (unless the press get ahold of them or come up with the nickname on their own) generally aren't meant for pubic consumption either. It's a like doctors and nurses who refer to the Umbilical Hernia in room 319.
An example of this in action is the teaching cases I remember the most from graduate school that were very distinctive (the guy who got eaten by a bear) or they'd been given names over the years. Here's a few I can recall right here, right now, off the top of my head: 1) Iman, F, Peoples of India, 24-36, slight enamel hypoplasia. Cause/Manner of death is unknown. She came into the teaching collection from Carolina Biological Supply or similar company.
2) Paco, M, Caucasian (Hispanic) 35-45, sharp force trauma to the right zygoma, blindingly white veneers on his teeth, probable victim of drug cartel violence. He was found in an empty boxcar by railroad security.
3) Chompers, M, Peoples of India, 20-28, is a traditional hanging skeleton. His bones didn't tell us anything about his cause of death, but, he's got a spring-wired mandible that if you're not careful when examining his mouth, he will bite. He's also from a Carolina Biological Supply or similar company.
4) I named Biohazard Bob. M, 20s, white man buried near Helena, Montana, pre-1900 and was waterlogged for some of the time he was underground. Bob and his grave goods are overrun with mold, which is a biohazard. Cause/Manner of death unknown.
All of these individuals have case numbers and I'd have to get into my records to look those up, but 20 yrs later, I remember their nicknames and the details come to me almost instantaneously. I can't do that if I was going off the case roster. It would take time to go through the collection and I'd have to be in the lab to clap eyes on said cases and briefly reassess them before I'd remember details like those above. I have a proposition for the pearl clutchers outraged that those investigators didn't run things in line with your delicate sensibilities. Go to school, get the training, spend time in the trenches, then we can talk about the temporary monikers given to the nameless.
Wow what a great story and thanks for sharing.
Wow! That is a convoluted case. I hope it is possible to find out how Winston met his end.
Yes the pants being found near by but not on him makes me think he was either raped or sexually assaulted and then killed and left in the water to decompose or they moved his body 5 weeks after he died so nobody would find him and put his pants near by him.

I don't know how you could be so at ease about a family member suddenly leaving home and losing contact i mean regardless of how close you are to them you would surely show concern about their wellbeing at least but Winston's family seemed to remain casual about it all maybe that's just the way they dealt with things but it seems a strange attitude to take imo
I know, he was a child. My 2 oldest sons (twins) are just now 14 and they couldn't survive on their own in our backyard much less roaming the country.
I think we shouldn’t be too hard on them because it was a totally different culture/society back then. We’d consider him a baby now, but at that time he would have been considered grown, and he had run away many times before. He may have even said he was leaving and not coming back. He did stop by to say goodbye to his sister, so everyone knew he was leaving.
@@JayJay32186 I thought about what you said and it could be the case because the Vietnam War was still going and young men lied about their age to join sometimes. We have 6 young boys 7-14. To me my 14 year old twins are still little kids.
@magnus1001 happened before the information age. Losing track of someone, even a family memeber, was probably easier to accept when you didn't have cell phones for quick contact or social media to check in.
@@JayJay32186 No. I was alive back then. Sixteen-year-olds were NOT considered adults. He was a minor then. He was in NO way an adult. I don't believe one word of the cover story by the family. He was kicked out and left to fend for himself.
He may not have been murdered. A disproportionate number of young men die by drowning. (All over and throughout time this is true). Young men take more risks and don't tend to think of water as dangerous. Regardless, I hope she gets answers. Someone had to have known him back then.
You are right. He wasn't murdered. It was a tragic accident where he tripped, fell, hit his head, was knocked unconscious, and then fell into the water. This fall resulted in his death because he basically drowned. It's a shame because he was young and he did want to change his life around.

Yeah he totally went swimming in leather pants and a turtleneck sweater o_o
He wasn't murdered. It was either drowning or exposure. It can get very cold in that part of the country with the wind and so forth.

I lived there many years ago. A lot of strange things happened in the forests around there. Bad things that folks get away with too frequently. Places you knew you didn't go.
I always wonder about those areas …. Way sketchy.
My guess is that he stumbled into a pot grow or biker meth lab and was murdered so he wouldn't go to the cops.
@@aluvriannedid they know about meth in 1971?
@@annfreels3071 Oh, yeah. It was invented by the Nazis to keep their tankers and pilots awake for days on end. After WWII, it got a foothold with outlaw motorcycle gangs that started in the San Bernardino/Riverside, CA, area. Biker Crank is what made the Hell's Angels and it spread with them as gangs expanded into the rest of the US.
I have read so many true crime cases happening in Washington and Oregan happing in the 1960s-1970s.There were a lot of serial killers and murderers living around there back then. Somone who grew up in Washington told me there were weirdos in those two states big time. She said most likely those two states attracted killers because you could live very obscurely. There were a lot of serial killers and murderers living around there back then. This victim was good looking, young and alone. I think a lunatic would have observed him as an opportunity. However, maybe the kid just had a freak accident because the forest can be dangerous if you are not careful.
Frog Boy seems like such a disrespectful thing to call the deceased.
He was a very handsome young man. He should have been able to have his whole life ahead of him.
He was literally a kid-not a "young man."
@@ValleyoftheRogue a kid is 'literally' a young goat.
@@sc3pt1c4L He was not an adult. The word "kid" has more than one meaning. Your post is an epic fail.
@@ValleyoftheRogue Oh no, I have been judged by you, how will I ever go on? The phrase 'young man' also has more than one meaning, in this case, referring to an adolescent male that has gone through puberty. Since this male had fathered a child of his own, I think we can safely assume he had reached that point. Perhaps you shouldn't take things so "literally" then you wouldn't find such mundane things "epic". I understand what she went through I never knew who my father was I started asking questions when I was 12 years old about who my father was only to find out 12 years later that he had died a couple years prior. But I did go to south side of Chicago from Washington DC and I was able to meet his mother and his younger brother, my uncle and my grandmother. I was 24 years old and she treated me like a little girl and tuck me in and she was such a sweet lady mom when I had a great time. And he was a nice guy told me he said I look just like my father and I was his only child and we never knew each other. It's sad when you don't know someone and you want so desperately to meet them only to find out you missed them by a few years . People need to know where they come from it helps you determine where you're going
Now- where in the world is MY father? James Erwin Callahan, born August 1944 and lived in East Des Moines, Iowa. I had my heritage done through DNA and found 2 sisters, unknown. They are looking for our father too. None of us have ever met him.😢

homicide, Winston was so young at the time of his death,

Winston.🙁🙏
I seriously doubt he was murdered. He likely died from exposure. I doubt he knew one thing about trying to live on his own.
His parents didn't care about him being gone and that's so sad
Some children are so difficult that they wear their parents down. I think he was that kind of child, according to the story. And they had other children to consider. I knew a kid like that when I was growing up.
They probably did but he’d left saying he was leaving. He just didn’t come back. Back the trying to find someone that didn’t want to be found was difficult. If they had gone to the police they wouldn’t have done much as he voluntarily left.
Also you have no idea how much heartache they been through or if they’d tried to find him.
He was kicked out of the house after he got his girlfriend pregnant. Not unheard of back then. I do not believe the story he never knew, and, still a minor, decided to go to a nothing town called Coos Bay, Oregon, to make his way in the world. That is a cover story, and it is too bad his daughter believes it.
@@ValleyoftheRogue Perhaps the girlfriends parents killed him...

Must be weird to tell people your dad died when he was 16.
Doesn't really make a difference tbh, whether 16 or 30 he's just as non-existent.
Such a sad story. He was a very handsome man man and I can understand why his parents didn't file a missing persons report! I hope the mystery is solved.
Keep in mind folks, children don't run away from happy homes.
Well they do.
A Handsome boy . A terrible shame someone had it in for him and did this to him . He didn’t get a chance to know his baby girl . Very tragic😢
Winston was a cutie.
I understand the name frog boy because of the way humans get extremely bloated after being dead. It's gross but a fact. But I don't think frog boy was an appropriate way to describe him. People can be so insensitive and don't think twice about how the families feel.
Was that the reason?
He was short
Poor young man 😢. He'd be a senior citizen now, more kids and grandkids of his own. But he never made it that far 😢. Some evil thing befell him and took his life away. He should have been living, laughing, loving, learning and being happy.
Not in some filthy water and named "frog boy". Gone far too soon, rest easy pal...😢
Sad story but at least the information gave some closure.
Since he was just 16 when his daughter, Lori, was born (a month after his death), it might have been a family member of the baby's mother who killed him.
Quite touching and
Fascinating ! ❤
Thank you DC🙏🏼💔🕊️
i wonder if poor Winston was being abused at home? they call it “rebellion,” but it just seems unlikely a child would run away from home several times simply because they don’t like their parents’ rules. it’s just so bizarre the parents didn’t seem concerned about their missing underage child.
I was thinking the same …. Not every case is just a so called runaway.
They all deny it, but it is pretty clear he was kicked out of the house upon finding out his girlfriend was pregnant. He didn't just decide one day he was going to go to Coos Bay-who in the world would EVER want to go there unless he wanted to meet track great Steve Prefontaine-for "adventure." That is simply ridiculous especially given his age.
@@iamsherlocked345 He was kicked out after he got the girlfriend pregnant and he didn't want to marry her because of his age. Not unheard of, especially during that era.
Great job of the narrator in keeping my interest to this story. Thanks
Why didn't Winston's parents report him missing and why would they just have assumed that he ran away from home and joined a circus or whatever i mean they were his parents why didn't they enquire further about his whereabouts and file a missing person's report
Lots of kids ran away from home during that time. Counter culture. Also, parents did believe stranger danger was a thing. Not an excuse, just once possible explanation
That's what kept bugging me about this case i mean thats their child even if he was a rebellious teenager he's still their child

So much shady stuff happened and still happens in that part of the country. I’m from fairly near there and the area definitely has a reputation. I know the void of never knowing your biological parent ,my dad was murdered by the time I was old enough to go and meet him. My mother made the decision not to let me and my sister know him,she played God with our lives, I resent her to this day, so by the time I was old enough it was to late,he was murdered, she forbade us to see him even when we were of age,so the first time I saw him it was at his funeral, after that my mother didn't speak to me for quite sometime, I grew up in Oregon and now live in Idaho so this kind of hit home for me. So Lori, i feel your void. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a hole that will never be filled 😊, God bless you, sweetheart .

So... where was her biological mother's father when Winston was killed? I could see him getting upset about his daughter getting knocked up at 15.
And of course he was kicked out of his own house by his parents upon the news. They all knew about it, including Winston. The story given doesn't pass the smell test. I was alive then and know how parents handled things like this.
Really sad that NCMEC refused to put him in their database because there was no missing person's report...because his parents never reported him missing! It would seem that would be even more reason to include him, he had obviously gone missing as a 16 year old. That said, I'm glad that Lori was able to make some headway through other avenues.
