    And the fun part is....I just went to a live concert of them in the Netherlands. They are still great! They produced something like 22 studio albums. Great band.

    I saw them on 03 May 1983 in La Bourse du Travail in Lyon France ... what a big show and Mickael Sadler is a great frontman ... BTW, I caught one of the drum stick of Steve Negus when he threw them in the audience 🤩👍😁

    Quels souvenirs!

    The original video for this (when Mike Sadler had that 70’s-gay cop-stache) was one of the first MTV videos I saw (1981). I was completely mesmerized by the song. Next to Prince, Ian Crichton is probably the most underrated guitar player ever. I remember feeling giddy when I found “Silent Knight” at a garage sale.

      First guitar solo 2:51-3:30...chills! In my opinion, Ian played this solo better here than on the record (not that I'm saying the record isn't good, of course it is; we're talking about Ian Crichton after all!). There's just a certain reverb on the guitar and a passion in there that transcends the record. I'm not a guitarist (I play drums and keyboards), but it's so well composed! To me, it's sort of a cross between the tone of Eddie van Halen and the emotion and passion of Alex Lifeson in one. Of course, Ian carves out his own spot in my list of guitar geniuses and has his own signature sound, it just that this solo makes me think of a van Halen/Lifeson hybrid!

    I wish I had seen this show on the French TV at the time... Just when I became aware of this band, thanks to a metal radio show - with this song and maybe a couple of others, by the way. Still one of my 3 top favourite songs by Saga.... it's a masterpiece of accessible progressive rock. Michael Sadler has one of the most beautiful and most recognizable voices in rock music ! and he appears to be quite a good keyboard player too !

    What I love about this band is their versatility. Notice Jim is playing keyboards at 4:06. At 4:13 Michael takes over on the Taurus pedals playing the bass part, giving Jim enough time to grab his bass and start playing. Pretty cool.

    • @tristanyoung3632
      @tristanyoung3632 2 года назад +1

      I've watched this clip so many times, but I never realized Michael had the Bass Pedals there! When he's singing the last chorus, Jim can be seen with the Bass walking past, and I always wondered, "so where's the Bass coming from?" Thanks for pointing that out!
      Incorporating multiple keyboardists is something I'm trying to establish myself in my group. We are very inspired by Saga, along with Dream Theater, Rush and Symphony X. Anyway, Saga really had a creative edge along with the other aforementioned three, IMO.

    je me souviens aussi de la personne qui présentait l'émission l'écho des savane on the french tv et qui sélectionnait les titres de la musique de SAGA pendant le premier concert et qui était assis juste derrière moi car au casino de paris pour assister aux 2 concerts de cette même soirée ont étaient tous assis. J'ai peut être dû l'influencer dans ses choix en me retournant lors du premier concert tout en le reconnaissant et en lui lançant verbalement "celle-ci elle est bien". souvenir, souvenir.

      Vincent Lamy, le présentateur de l'émission (un ancien musicien des groupes "odeurs" et " au bonheur des dames") avait toujours des vêtements très colorés. Je suis carrément étonné de le savoir au concert au casino de Paris pour choisir les morceaux , très pro... J'étais également à ce concert à l'étage . merci pour ces infos et merci pour le choix des chansons.
      J'ai également le souvenirs que ,lors de la présentation de Saga dans l'émission ,l'on voyait le groupe jouer " Careful where you step". c'était seulement un extrait (jim Gilmour portait un blouson blanc) mais je n'ai jamais vu le morceau en entier...
