      Hey bud just wanted to check with you and see if you would be interested in captive bred Savannah monitors I just got my 3rd clutch this morning and 1st clutch should be hatching soon I’d be willing to give you one or two because I know they would definitely be well taken care of. Let me know or if you know of anyone you would trust I’d really appreciate it and have an awesome day

    This is a perfect example of why it’s important to observe your animals and pay attention to their specific needs. Not every species thrives in a bioactive set-up, just as some species won’t thrive in a sterile set up. Sometimes, a simple enclosure enables keepers to better control the environment, resulting in a healthier animal.
    I have a leopard gecko that absolutely needs a bioactive enclosure because she is so active and needs stimulation. Naturally, I set my second leopard gecko up bioactive as well, only to find that she did not thrive. She wouldn’t eat, was scared and defensive, and rarely left her hide. I believe she has poor eyesight. I moved her to a sterile enclosure and she has become a completely different gecko. Eats, and is friendly and active instead of defensive.

    Hi Dayyan,
    I really like how reflected you pointed out that this is not a recommendation to solo keep this geckos in sterile setups. Several breeder friends of mine and myself had bad experiences with sterile setups and huge success in bioactive even for raising hatchlings. So this would be an example for the otherway around. And I hope you will be able to move back to bioactive in the future. Wish you good breeding success and again thanks for keeping your responsibility serious.

    I say keep your reptiles whichever way is best for the animal. Like you said, not all reptiles do best bioactive. I know the whole rack vs display enclosure is still a very heated debate in the hobby, but I say to each their own. As long as the keeper is taking care of their animals, who cares what kind of enclosure they're kept in. If they're healthy, that's all that matters. And your new display set-up is WAY above and beyond what most people do. So no one should be complaining.

    I had a Phantasticus around 20 years ago. I had him for maybe 6 months and it was doing well. I had to go out of town for work/training for 2 weeks and my brother offered to take care of my pets which also included 6 species of dart frog, several snakes and an African Cichlid tank. He died and so did a handful of frogs, He swears he came everyday and misted/ fed dusted pinheads but I think you should never get these pets if you have to depend on a non-exotic pet fan to take care of your rare and expensive beasties.

    Your leaf tails are beautiful! Phantastic even !! Lol.. They're looking great, I admire the way you care for your animals in the way they need, not necessarily the way you want.qotd I have a female central American banded I keep on paper towel, while she's separated from her male in off season, just because she eats better and just seems to prefer a dirt/leaf litter box in an area instead of the entire enclosure when she's alone, live potted plants and fake in some spots, and when she's with her male she has her hides in the full bioactive with paper towels inside for her,she doesn't seem to be bothered by that setup when it's breeding time 😂 ur gonna have more lil gecko babies before you know it, Ive hatched a couple more neon day gecko hatchlings this week *squee! every time*

    Haven't done it yet, but I'm considering moving my crestie out of her bioactive setup for a little while... Frankly, I dropped the ball when it came to designing and maintaining her enclosure. She's healthy, but most of the plants are dead, the cute little cork planters I made were useless, and I believe the CUC is MIA. Spot-cleaning brown poop on brown substrate is not fun. Breaking down an 18x18x24 won't be fun either... but I guess it's gotta get done.

    Not quite the same, but I had to significantly downsize our hamster from a 1000sq in natural style enclosure for her end of life care. She had developed a wobble while walking, and needed less space and climbing. She wasn't exactly _happy_ as such, but she was safe for her last month of life 💜

    I've had my ball python in a bioactive set up since he was 4 months old. I almost moved him back into his quarantine tub at one point, he started to whistle/wheeze. I was worried he was getting a respiratory infection. When I was moving him into his tub, I noticed he had some stuck shed covering part of his nostril that was making him whistle. Back to being a sneaky snek instead of a squeaky snek.

    Im not speaking from gecko experience here, but if you're going bioactive, my personal opinion is that the 30/30/45cm vivs are too small. You introduce a clean up crew to take care of waste, but how much clean up crew can you really get into an inch of substrate with a 1 foot square footprint? Personally I think for a pair of phantasticus the 60x60x45 is more suitable for keeping a clean bioactive viv.

  • @BelowTheGold
    @BelowTheGold 3 года назад +1

    While I agree the naturalistic set ups do look good the welfare and health of the animal has to come first. always.
    The vivs set up with the fake plants still look fairly natural with the exception of the paper towels.
