Glad to see that you allowed her to do the same amount of work. She should have also done a little more of the concrete mixing. Great job, both of you.
Pete, you're a rockstar, I picked up some tricks regarding concrete making, wish i saw these videos few months ago, I've been tiling everything , little more pricier but guarantees a finished look without spending all the time sanding and curing cement.
Great work, Pete! And Leah too. I think I can handle this project after having done the concrete top bar project along with the stool one. I think it will help to get more people to use it whenever the bar is crowded and specially I can leave it outdoor all year long during winter times.
Pete. I’m building this table now. Just poured the concrete, the only thing I may do different is add center deck board for the bottom along “foot rests” and then box in the bucket so you don’t see the strip of led lights underneath it. Thanks for the sweet projects I plan to build a few things now, outdoor kitchen, bar, etc all with concrete countertops!
I've been wanting to make a grill table for my weber grill and the hole and support for the grill using wood seems to be a challenge or extremely expensive. This would be a great alternative method for this. Can't wait to get started. Thank you for sharing.
Hey John! The base and concrete mold can be made, and the concrete can be poured all on a Saturday. The curing of the concrete will take about 3 days, followed by sanding. I'd give a week to complete the project due to waiting for concrete curing.
Great build you two, I enjoy seeing folks using pocket hole joinery & it looks as if an assembled base can hold a concrete top without any difficulties the Kreg jig is an awesome tool to have 👍👍👍
I just got back from a ten day trip to Montana and loved it!! We actually went through Bozeman to get back to the Interstate to head home. Wish we had time to check out your town but we had a twenty hour plus trip back home. lol How was your road trip?
That's awesome Will! Glad you enjoyed it :) The road trip was great. 8,000 miles on the road. Feels good to be home though! Got quite a bit of footage to get up still. Cheers!
I'm usually a very critical person but I really don't understand how someone can give you a thumbs down on this video. Great video, great looking product, good explanation of the process and good quality audio/video. Whatelse can you really ask for. ThumbsUP for sure. Thanks for great content. Pete, My next project is custom wardrobe for my new Police Officer son. Do you have any ideas? I am including areas and rods for hanging uniforms, a special slide out wide hanger for protective vest which has to separate the front from the back , a powered ventilation fan for the vest, drawer for items such as recharging radios and such, Drawer for locking weapons and more. I am trying to finalize the plans and build soon so I can present at academy graduation with is soon. Any ideas are welcome.
Pete, love you videos. I poured my first concrete countertops last night--and I've watched a fair number of your videos to get myself comfortable enough. Fingers crossed they'll turn out okay. One tip that I saw on another video was using a hammer drill set to hammer and then hammer drilling into a sacrificial space block of 2x4. I have a Bosch hammer drill, so I just used that with a paddle bit. Worked amazing. I know a lot of your stuff is set up for DIY folks, and they may not have a hammer drill, however many of them do have a cordless drill that has a hammer drill setting on it...so maybe you might consider messing around with that on a future episode. Keep up the great work, dude.
Hey Mike! I hope the countertops turn out awesome! Thanks so much for watching the videos, and for taking the time to share your ideas. I'll have to try out that method for sure :) Cheers!
WOW! I love this table I will use this table and make others build it in Thailand. I am sure they will like the table. Thanks for this both you and guys. Great Job.
Hi Pete.. just a quick question... in the case of these table and the concrete coffe table... the molds used can be re-use??? or those are one use molds??? Tks Great Channel ... Blessings
Thanks! If they don't get scratched or scuffed they can usually be reused a few times. You need to clean the silicon off with a razorblades, and use rubbing alcohol to clean up the surface. Sometimes little pinholes can absorb water and cause the wood to expand, so just make sure the melamine is still in good condition.
great video. do you think one would be able to use a second piece of foam for the acrylic when using the cement? Then you would be able to remove or replace the acrylic down the road in cases it gets dirty or damaged.
Hi Josh, I'm not sure if I quite understand your question about using a second piece of foam instead of acrylic. As for the acrylic --- it is about 1/4 inch thick and it won't break unless you'd take a hammer to it. I've had mine outside on another table year round for the past 3 1/2 years and it still looks good.
I mean to use another piece of foam instead of the acrylic when you poured the cement so you had the space for the acrylic but it wouldn't be permanently attached to the table
When attaching the concrete top to the base, did you use the same silicone from the beginning of the project? And thank you for making these videos! I just finished your double bench seat with table project. It came out great!
Great work with the double chair! -- yes, would use a 100% silicon to attach it. - similar to how you'd install counters. This way it can be removed if you ever need to move it -- and the silicon does a nice job keeping it in place.
Hey DIY Pete, I want to make an outdoor concrete dining table 60"x60". If you have advise for a pour in place table that size, I'd love to hear what you have to say.
Pete, I like the idea of using the quickcrete 5000, but my concern is that forming and pouring this way will drop some aggregate to the bottom during vibration which would be the exposed top. Do you have any issues with any gravel exposing itself. I’m thinking of going with a grout type mixture with a super plasticizer for increased strength. Your thoughts?
Hi! the cement or cream will form around them perimeters if the concrete is vibrated well. Here is an example doing some tops out of quikrete 5000. ruclips.net/video/A0Pd4o8gjfM/видео.html --- you could certainly go with another type of mix though if you'd prefer.
You make it look so easy. I am so gonna try to make one. This would look awesome in my pool area. Approximately how much in materials? Love your videos man. Also the scenery where you live is beautiful.
This is really nice! I live in the Poconos, I think this would be awesome to be pub height, and make the center knockout to accommodate a propane fire pit feature, either round like you created, or it could be square. What is the ratio of concrete pigment you used to the color the table top? I see there are a lot of color choices. And being you used two and a half bags, (60# or 80# bags) I imagine that you definitely needed two people to place it where you wanted it.
Thanks! Color ratio will just depend on the brand used and type. I'd recommend experimenting a bit, or going off the manufacturers recommendations. Yep, it was pretty heavy so a dolly and at least 2 people helps a lot.
Pretty KEWL project Pete! I never saw you diamond sand the top portion of the table. It looks like you only used a sealer. Can you confirm? Any reason why you did not water sand? Was the top surface smooth enough?
Michael, I did not diamond sand this tabletop. I was going for a different finish and wanted to show a method for folks who may not have a wet sander. I'm happy with how it turned out!
Hi! I recommend waiting a day or two after sanding or polishing if possible. But I haven't had issues as far as concrete tops goes. Thanks!

What is the concrete mix for the project , it would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I want to build my step daughter a dining room table and that looks like it would be a perfect mix? Or would you have a better mix I should useCheers guys looks great

Hey Luke! Dowels are another great option. It may take a bit longer but dowel joints are nice. I'd do some googling of Pocket hole joints vs dowel joints to help make your decision. There are some good videos on youtube as well.

Great project! The Knob Creek in the ice bucket ain't bad either. I'm gonna try out a concrete project. Adapt some of the tips and techniques from your videos and make a BBQ prep station. Kicking around some ideas in my head, we'll see.
Kevin Strayn short answer, yes you can. The forms are melamine, which is a non porous slick laminate over the MDF. It easily cleans up. However if you planned to use the same screw holes, you would want to glue and tap in some wooden matchsticks or something similar so you get a good grip with your screws.
It can generally be used at least once again. As long as there aren't any pinholes or cuts that form in the concrete that swelled up with water. I use rubbing alcohol and a razor to clean the molds.
Pete, does the concrete table top hold heat when out in the sun? I want to put a fridge underneath, just concern the heat will keep radiating thru. Thanks.
b33chie You won't have a bit of problem. Always leave the mnfct required airspace around any appliances - for a mini-fridge 1/2" is plenty. If you're worried you can always put a thin layer of R-max (foil-faced poly-iso foam) right in the bottom of your form when you pour to act as a thermal break- it stays in, just keep 2" back from the edges of your form so you cant see it
I can't recall anybody who looked remotely like Leah on all of the building sites I have been on!

Pete, does the concrete table top hold heat when out in the sun? I want to put a fridge underneath, just concern the heat will keep radiating thru. Thanks.
Hi! The concrete will absorb heat from the sun. I would think a fridge would keep things cold still, but yes the concrete will conduct a little heat.
b33chie You won't have a bit of problem. Always leave the mnfct required airspace around any appliances - for a mini-fridge 1/2" is plenty. If you're worried you can always put a thin layer of R-max (foil-faced poly-iso foam) right in the bottom of your form when you pour to act as a thermal break- it stays in, just keep 2" back from the edges of your form so you cant see it
great video guys, keep having fun!
Thanks!
Do you have a drain for the water in the bucket?
