      @@susanhaney8290 Well, ground speed can be almost as high as the speed of sound, but a normal crusing speed of the B737 is between 500-600 mph or 800-900 km/h.

    I didn’t deplane in Cordova, so i added a shot of the aircraft in Anchorage just to show the plane. In case anyone was confused why the first shot looked like a much bigger airport. It’s because it was haha. Enjoy the second leg of the milk run!

A lot more from Alaska to come, and the milk run flights are only going to get better. In a couple of days I'll post the next segment from YAK-JNU, and then JNU-SIT. Both are STUNNING flights. Thanks for being my number one fan my friend!

    Never can get enough Milk Run videos; so much fun. It was interesting at ANC, there did not appear to be a port side wing marshaller. Man, CDV has a lot of ground equipment for an airport that size. They had 2 air stairs, a wide body container loader and several container pods located at different areas of the apron. Didn’t see a belt loader, though.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, Alaska has all of their small stations decked out. Right after our flight departed, the dedicated, cargo only, Alaska Air Cargo 737-700 landed. So, they use all that cargo equipment for that. I'd also imagine it's possible, both the passenger 737 and the cargo 737 are there are the same time. Probably why they have two sets of stairs.

    Good views of Malaspina Glacier.
    Fun fact: Malaspina Glacier is a piedmont glacier and the largest one in the world. It's so large that the only way you can see all of it at once is from up in space, like from the ISS or the Terra and Aqua satellites.
    Further behind it is Kluane National Park in SW Yukon. Mt Logan is Canada's highest peak at over 19,000 feet, and it's not just a mountain, it's a massif. This is when you have a group of mountains forming a much larger single mountain. Mt. Vinson down in Antarctica is also a massif.
    And on the Mt. Logan massif is a great big humungous ice field that spawns numerous large glaciers.
    Those mountains you're looking at are part of the St. Elias Range which begins down by Vancouver, BC. Down along the BC coastline, it's the Coast Mountains, which meet the St Elias range further up.
    If you're able to, I encourage you to do a side trip to Glacier Bay and do the Glacier Bay day cruise. I promise that you won't be one bit disappointed.

      Great info here! Thanks for pointing it all out! Sadly, on this trip, my one and only goal was to take the milk run fights. So, I didn't have time to get out and do anything else. But I definitely plan to go back and spend some more time in Alaska.

    Welcome to (as I label it) Yakity-Yak! It must be expensive to live in these tiny burgs--no interstate highways--virtually everything must be flown in or boated in--the airline must pay premium prices for fuel at these outstations,even fuel must be flown in! At CDV,wondering why you stopped before backtracking on the runway,perhaps for the pilot to continue with his checklist--on final,had this thought--Alaska,from what I know,is actually larger than Texas! Incredible that one can fly to all these wonderful tiny towns and not ever leave the state boundaries! A vast state to be sure! I hope you're able to get up and stretch during these brief stops--what do you do for food during this long day?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  3 года назад

      Now, I could have just missed it, or it could've been on the other side, but I don't ever remember seeing a fuel truck come up to the plane in Cordova or Yakutat. The flights are so short they could easily ferry fuel from Anchorage for the entire trip. I'd imagine that's likely what they typically do. And yes, you're correct. Although Alaska definitely suffers from the land being stretched on maps being so far North, it is the largest state. You can get up and walk around freely between stops, although you're "encouraged" to remain on the aircraft, as there are no shops or restaurants in these small terminals. Juneau and Ketchikan are exceptions, where you can get off and get food like on through Southwest flights. On this particular day, I ate a breakfast sandwich when I got to the airport in Anchorage, and then I ate again when I got to Juneau. I almost never eat a full three meals when I'm traveling.

    Around the 38:20 mark you can see Mt. St. Elias on the left and Mt Logan on the right. St Elias has one of the highest vertical reliefs of any mountain and Mt. Logan is the largest mountain as far as circumference around the base. I don't include volcanic islands i.e the Big Island.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  3 года назад

      I do not know why the flaps weren’t extended sooner. It actually was causing me some concern on the plane. I thought, how long do I wait before hitting the call button…. I don’t want to insinuate that I know more than the flight crew, but I know enough to know that we need flaps haha.

      @sla31  3 года назад +4

      Well, I wouldn't call it a lot of money. I make enough to continue doing this. Trust me, if I made tons of money off this channel or at my regular job, you'd see a lot more than what I do post. I still have to be very selective on what flights I take. Everything you see on my channel is paid for out of my own pocket. This trip to Alaska was planned A LONG time in advance, and I did indeed spend a lot of money on it. I do have fun doing everything for this channel, but it's not just for me. If it was just for me, I could just fly all these flights and not record them. I record them though, and post them on this channel, at great expense to myself, so everyone else who watches, likes, comments, and subscribes can also take these flights too. I have been lucky enough to be able to do this as a hobby, but a lot of people can't. So, I do the best I can to take everyone along with me because I shouldn't be the only one who gets to enjoy flying all over the place. Thanks for watching my friend!
