According to several sources, Bob Merril either wrote or co-wrote "Elegance" and "Motherhood / Motherhood March". He also wrote the original "Before the Parade Passes By" which was scrapped for a new song by Herman borrowing the same title. "Dolly" had a troubled tryout period and Merrill was brought in to boost the score when the producers were worried.
Right. "Elegance" was actually written by Merrill for his 1957 show "New Girl in Town" but was cut from it. It certainly fit elegantly into "Hello, Dolly!", perhaps helping it break a long-running legend. Thanks for posting this!
I have no idea who you people are or why you did this. But I'm very glad you did.
I just found this video and... I am extremely happily surprised.
I'm just smiling and feeling happy because of this video!!! Thank YOU!!!
This might be my favorite song in the show!
Good golly, that's the original Gower Champion staging! Bravo!
Love this song! Nice performance and video!
That's pretty darn good.

Listen to it carefully against the other Herman songs. It sounds quite different.
Loved the 69 movie, wish this was a whole new video adaptation.
Literally obsessed
Ecstatic!
Soooo…..you’re going to do the rest of it, right?
Is that Reese Witherspoon?
No it's Reese Withoutherspoon.
But which one?
