She's too old for long hikes so what do we do?

- Voted one of North America's Top Ten Hikes, Newfoundland's Skerwink Trail is just breathtaking, both in her beauty and in her climb to the pinnacle overlooking the cliffs over the water. We knew we wanted to make this 3-4 hour hike but our 10-yr-old pup Maggie had no intentions of letting us do it without her. So knowing we'd probably have to carry her we headed off on the hike. We've since bought a dog backpack/carrier but on this trip we had to improvise.
Our reward?... the best hike we've ever experienced... then the best grilled cheese sandwich. And all that was topped off by a great place to boondock and wake up the next morning on Lynn's birthday.

We just found your RUclips channel and subscribed. Our boy is small and nearly 17. He has hiked and climbed, run several 5k races and attended all family events. We are rooting for Maggie!

Our pup is 7 and loves to hike. It's easy to empathize and hope that Maggie gets many more adventures and is fortunate to have you all too maximize the chances.
it seems she has gone down so fast. But we will keep monitoring her and make sure we go on hikes that she can enjoy too. We are also looking into getting her and us a backpack. Enjoying hiking with your pup.
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle We got a lyracat backpack for our cat. We just put our 35lb dog Rose in it and she fit but don't think she'd be too comfy. Looks like the Kurgo K9 Rucksack is a nice one for dogs rated up to 25lbs.

Happy Birthday Lynn! Looks like some of the best camping in the world. Y'all got the smoke we got the fire. Our alternator caught on fire going from 81 t0 77 in Virginia. Got the fire out spent the night at a Circle K truck stop and were helped by the nicest towing company we have ever met. Thank you for posting your alternator problems because it was one of the first things I checked. We are home now planning our next adventure. Happy tails and safe travels.
I guess you could say we were lucky. When we started on this trip I did not realize that there was a chance the alternator could catch on fire. I hope the fire didn’t do a lot of damage. Glad to hear you are planning you next adventure.

I adopted my dog when the vet said he was about three. He’s ten now and he has even got used to van life. Which is good as he has been all through Central America with us -we’re in Nicaragua at the moment-and he doesn’t walk so much but he is thriving. All they need is love. And occasional vet visits.

We didn’t explore that peninsula. Instead we went from Twillingate to Gander and down to St. John’s. Feel like we missed this lovely hike.
We also travel with a dog and really love to see how you accommodate her needs but still give her an adventure!

Yes, that is the stick that Mr Haynes carved, you have a good memory… that was 3 years ago. Owen likes to use it because he can put his Insta360 on the top of it.
Our Sophie is getting up in age too. She's not into those long hikes. We have thought about a trailer for my bike but have not yet looked. Those were some beautiful areas y'all explored! Boondocking at it's best!
We will probably get a backpack for Maggie that we can put her in when she gets tired. She still wanted to go and really hate not taking her.

Our Lexie is 8. She’s a German Shepherd, so not much chance of carrying her. She’s always been lazy compared to our other dogs, but lately she pulls back on her leash and doesn’t want to go. It’s so sad. We have big hiking plans, and wanted her to enjoy it all with us. She’s hanging in there, but we definitely see a difference lately.
It is sad when they slow down. We don’t go on a lot of hikes we would like to because they are just to far for Maggie to go… and she really wants to go, at first.

Wow! Thank you. We used 2 actually. Most were with the DJI Mini 3 Pro. Love that drone. A few were with the Hover X small drone

Thank you. I’m not really sure what the issues is with dumping our toilet but someone always has something negative to say. Some people say that we are overloading them and some say kids have to use that same toliet’s… iI’ve told Owen we should never say anything about the toilet and where we dump it. I just hate giving people a reason to say negative things.
Please just keep creating positive, quality, inspiring content and ignore them. You don't have to give some people a reason to be negative. They can't help themselves and just have to go there.

Hey, just subscribed, although I have watching your other videos as we are Ekko Wannabes. We have a chance to purchase a 2024 Ekko but it does have the generator. It does have the extra lithium battery, but I was wondering if the 2,000 watt inverter can run the Air Conditioner using the just the batteries? Have y'all run your AC on battery alone?
Yes it can run on inverter. We have one battery and under 75-85 weather we can get between 2-3 hours on the one battery. You should be able to get 5-6 if conditions are good. It limits what will run at the same time but everything will operate from the inverter.

By the way, we have a 13 1/2 old Boston Terrier and he still gets around even though he is nearly blind and deaf. He can do about 3 miles max hiking, and we do many of the same things you do to help him out.
We got a dog back pack for our dog that is about the same size as Maggie from K9 Sport Sack. My husband is a large person 230 lbs so his comfort while hiking was a big consideration is the brand in our choice. We went to a store that carries K9 pack and tried the different styles. We chose the K9 Sport Sack Knavigate because it had all the features of a high quantity hiking pack for comfort for both dog and human. Pricey but worth it! Our dog immediately took to it.

My fur baby has been camping all over with us she is 14, as I’m writing this I am driving as quickly as I can with her to get home in NY. she has gone downhill very quickly, she has renal problems. We were on a 3 week trip to Tennessee and we left early. Enjoy every minute with Maggie it goes too quickly 😢
