Do you usually purchase the drink package? Why or why not?
Nope, order bottles of liquor through room service + a bubbles card. Then I can pregame and buy a drink or two at the bar when I don’t feel like running back to room. Also have a flaskap, which is a cap for yeti type insulated cups that holds multiple shots of liquor, so just refill cup with soda and press the magic button to dispense liquor into cup.
Did it once and at the end we did not think we drank equal to the cost of the package. We only have 2-3 drinks per day, and my husband gets drinks free in the casino, so paying $60 plus per day per person just doesn’t make sense for us.
@@whitsax yes the casino drinks take care of most of my night drinking. I tip the slot drink waiters well enough at the beginning of the cruise that I don’t have to be playing in the casino to get drinks from them.

Yes. After our first two cruises without it, we did the math and saw that it just made sense with how much we like to drink, liquor and non liquor wise. The cocktails we like add up quickly and we drink nowhere near 15 a day. 5 cocktails plus the non alcoholic drinks like two specialty coffees puts us over tbe daily amount breakdown. Our favorite drinks are the custom ones from the Alchemy Bar. We use to think from the misinformation of the others and our own ignorance of the actual details of the package that we had do that. We don't have to worry about a bill or worry if we don't like a certain drink. Also even if we do an excursion and stay out, we have the the evening to drink a few at the comedy club, dinner, and/or Alchemy bar. It's not for everyone though. We did the buying a bottle and it would've went better if they had crown apple available. The regular crown and the other options just weren't what we liked so we ended up only using half of it and buying some drinks.
Carnivals CHEERS also allows for unlimited non-alcoholic drinks like milkshakes, coffee from the Java Blue Cafe, Monster energy and red bull. These do not go toward the 15 drink limit. So, If you get 1 specialty Coffee, 1 milkshake, and 3 frozen cocktails a day on average, you'll hit break even. every other drink of any kind would now be essentialy "free". If you're going to have at least 5 drinks of any kind a day, buy it.
Why you SHOULD buy the drinks package. You get 15 drinks a day. The day before you go into a port, you order shots, take them to your room and pour them into a water bottle. At least 7-8 (or how many you have left out of 15.) Pack that "water bottle" into your bag onto whatever island you are on, buy a $3 bottle of OJ or fruit punch or coke or whatever and mix your own as you wander down the street (trust ,me, no one is looking.) That alone will save you 60-70 dollars unless you really have to drink that Senor Frogs 15 dollar drink or whatever vile tourist island restaurant drink. But hey, that's just my own experience.

BTW, the ship's water is Reverse osmosis water, some of the purest you can get! If all you need is water, regular coffee, tea and breakfast juices, bring along a water bottle and you are good to go.
I went on a few without the drink package and also regretted it. I was drinking the cheapest beers and sometimes would get a bucket to get a little better of a deal but still ended up spending close to or more than the package would have cost. Now I always get the package and enjoy better drinks and water included. At 60 per day it only takes six $10 drinks to break even not including the other non alcoholic drinks incuded in the package.
Yep, I purchase the drink package. It's worth it for me, for alcohol & non-alcoholic drinks. When I cruise with my son, he gets to benefit from it as well for sodas, milkshakes, etc.

I did a 5 day with no drink package because the person sailing with me didn't want it. I ended up spending $700! Each drink also comes with tax and gratuity charges. Even soda and water. Now i never travel a cruise ship without it.

Good video brother!! Every cruise my wife and I go on we always think and think about the drink package …is it worth it ???? We wind up getting it and we look back and are glad we got it. We’re not heavy drinkers NEVER get close to the limit but where we make it up is with the coffee waters and other drinks !! I really appreciated your thoughts on this - it made it MUCH easier to decide whether to get it or not. We have three port days and three sea days, so I think that I will pass on the drink package.

Ha.. we used to do the trick you mentioned with minors. Wife and I would split rooms with the kids then after boarding ask the service desk for additional key cards and we could just switch rooms. No one ever cared but it made purchasing the drink package for one person possible.

I ordered the bottle and had a gift of wine and brought 2 bottles of wine.We never finished the wine and barely touched the rum and had to travel home with the bottles.We had excursions and kept so busy that we weren’t drinking.We are light drinkers.My next cruise I won’t order the rum can’t see myself paying that price for a 20 dollar bottle.

On carnival if you book the steak house you get a free bottle of champagne or 1/2 off wine bottle on the first night. If that help. Most have two people in a room so you can bring two bottles of wine but has to be 750ml or less. We found it cheap to buy a bottle of wine rather then by the glass

I just got off the Carnival Liberty yesterday and I got the bubbles package for myself and 3 kids. It wasn’t worth bc they didn’t have drink machines. You have to go to the bar so my kids got ignored half the time so I had to get their drinks and carry back 4 cups to the table. Not only that but we ended to drinking lemonade most of the time. The cocktails were weak yet my cousin felt like she needed to get her moneys worth and was vomiting all over the Bahamas 🤦🏽♀️. I felt like when we actually used the soda package we only got Pepsi and starry and drank maybe 3 sodas max per day. Also they tax $0.21 on port Canaveral per drink on embarkation and disembarkation day.

We never did the drink package mainly because I don't have selfcontrol once liquor is available. I prefer my liquor neat 1 or 2 bottles in the room is a better option for me.
I honestly think this is the most cost efficient option.
It's definitely cheaper for me to get the drink package. I enjoy the cruise ship and tend to hit a bottle a day. But I like how you broke it down.

Lucky me, I hardly drink alcohol and the one or two cocktails I drink I just pay them on the card. We pre-order the small water bottles though. I even once brought my package of coca cola cans on board. Depending on the port days I consider the bottomless bubbles, otherwise not worth it, love my coffee and water 🤷♀️
I think the water bottles are a necessity if someone isn’t purchasing the drink package..I also heard people talking about buying sodas/bottled water at the ports and bringing them back on land..not a bad idea!

I heard there is a pitcher of drink ( only certain mixed drink tho) on our last night for $29. We paid $24 for 2 glasses couple days before. Also a bucket of beer (5 or 6 bottles) for $35. May want to check into that also. We are going in January and I'm gonna check it out.
Which ports are you visiting and for how many days? I think if you’re a beer drinker, the price will be a little under the total cheers package, but not by THAT much. I will suggest comparing how many beers/day you’ll drink combined with bottled water/espresso. Happy sailing!!

@@mhart94All people of the cabin must buy one package. So your daily cost is $59.95 x 2 = $119.90. A beer costs $8, break even point is 15 bottles daily. If you have a port day, do you (2 persons) have enough time to finish 15 in 5 hours. That’s quite in a hurry, I feel.
@@Rong_Wei_Yu that's only 7 beers per person. Assuming you only drink beer. Add a couple frozen drinks, a specialty coffee, and wine at dinner, you're way ahead of the game.
You can order liquor delivered to your room. Call Room Service and order whatever liquor bottle. It will cost the same as the online preorder price e.g. Bacardi Rum is $85 + $15 service fee. If you don’t want to pay sales tax, you’ll have to wait until the ship has left port. I have done this many times + a bubbles card for the mixer.
The liquor bottles have to be purchased before the sail date. I was unable to buy liquor bottles once I boarded any ship this year.
@@Afro_Vlogs I’ve purchased from Room Service on my April 2022 cruise on the Legend out of Baltimore and my Jul 2022 cruise on the Magic out of NYC. Just called them up after we were far enough from our embarkation port to avoid sales tax. 🤷🏻♂️. I’ve done this over a dozen times on Carnival cruise ships.

We just cruised with an RU1 VIFP promotion for Cheers!. We are not big drinkers, and this helped us realize that paying for it outright would work for us. I came close to break-even on sea days with a mix of coffees, waters and mixed drinks. On port days, there is no way I could reach break-even without getting plastered or having a caffeine overdose, lol. My wife didn't come close at all, even on sea days.

Quite honestly I wish it would go back to the 'old days' and be pay as you go.
I've cruised on the cheapest fare lines in inside cabins, I've done many Crossings on Cunard on both the QE2 and the Queen Mary 2 and I've done everything inbetween.
It doesn't seem to matter how much the cruise costs or what economic sector is likely to be on that ship it seems to me that 90% of problems occur because people are over served alcohol.
I've seen everything from outright brawls to an extremely elegantly dressed lady literally passing out in Queens Grill at dessert on the first night of an Atlantic Crossing because she mixed too much alcohol and seasickness medicine.
They were to be out table mates for 7 nights and they didn't come back to dinner in that dining room for 4 more nights.
You’re totally right..the fact that they make everyone in the room buy the alcohol package promotes daily binge drinking. Unfortunately, I assume they’re making too much money to ever make that adjustment. I hope I’m wrong!

I’ve seen people unable to handle their liquor on embarkation day and proceed to be eerily sober throughout the rest of the trip. I’m not sure if the Carnival crew took away their drinking privileges, or if their behavior adjusted out of sheer embarrassment. In any case, I’m in agreement with you.

Carnival offers deals if you’re signed up for their VIFP club (it’s free and you can easily do it on carnival.com) .. there’s always various sales going on, and this was the cheapest one that was offered to me.
What side of the states did you sail?? I think it sounds like the Florida side?? I have never seen a deal that cheap Thru vifp ??

It includes your specialty coffees, Milk Shakes, Bottled water (Sparking & Still) - liter size included also, soda and energy drinks. its includes 15 alcohol drinks per day. Lets do the math A.M Specialty Coffee 8.00 -Sparkling H20 $6.00 Mimosa $10.00 After breakfast Deck Time (lunch) - 3 Margaritas $36.00 - 2 bottle sparkling H20 $12.00 - Grab a cocktail and head to the room to get ready for dinner $12.00 Margarita 1 Sparkling H20 $6.00 Pre-dinner cocktails at Martini Bar 2 Cosmos $28.00 2 bottles sparkling H20 $12.00. Dinner 1 Gls of Wine $14.00 1 -liter sparking water $10.00 - Lets hit the show 2 Cocktails $24.00 2 Bottles water $12.00. Night Cap $16.00 1 bottle water $6.00.... - Over $150.00 in one day.........
