    Superb idea on splitting up the sound by channel. Very inspiring and love your creativity. Just a quick suggestion with Scalar2: you can turn on the multi-voice output (Settings|Preferences|Multi-voice output) in Scalar and the notes of the chords will be assign to each channel automatically. Note that channels will start at 2 since channel 1 is all the notes. Thanks for expanding drastically my experimentations in Bitwig.

    This is my favourite video, but having said that... I've spent the whole of my day watching your videos and I've now "Favourited" about 5. You're just so fluid in your process -- if I had half your navigational skills I'd consider myself a genius in Bitwig, and that's not even considering your remarkable ability to come up with ideas and then be able to put them into action! Bloody Delicious!

    Bitwig is the best for composing beats IMO for all the reasons you just demonstrated. Love your work man. So that you don't have to manually assign midi channels to each note, buy a copy of phrasebox and right click on the label to the left of the grid and assign a channel. It also has 1 to 8 for notes in a chord. Now it's fully automated. Phrasbox is seriously underrated IMO. The perfect companion for scaler 2.

    Reminds me of the extremely powerful Unify VST by PluginGuru which (among tons of other functionality) can round robin notes among any loaded plugins, and, to a lesser degree, also the "Geist as an idea generator" YT video by Sami 9 years ago, yet still relevant!...

    Is this something pretty unique to Bitwig or would Cubase or Ableton live be able to as well?

  • @IncorrectDisposal
    @IncorrectDisposal Год назад

    This is the way.
    I found layering to degrade the signal, along with the cpu disadvantage.
    With the master clip, we can also edit each channel in it's own lane for step type sequencing.
    Be nice if track colour was tied to midi channel colour.

    • @embersandash
      @embersandash Год назад +1

      If you split the midi amongst multiple clips, then select multiple clips, you can view them all as layers and each layers notes will have a different color.

    • @IncorrectDisposal
      @IncorrectDisposal Год назад

      Thanks...that's the flexible track level approach :)
      With one clip, one window...sequencing 16 tracks, it's akin to a hardware sequencer driving 16 synths into a 16 channel mixer
      Group 1 > 16 instrument tracks
      Group 2 > 16 Audio, 16 FX tracks
      Cause the midi channel colours are fixed...I decided to name all tracks 1-16 (colour: grey) so if I'm working on ch1 in the clip, I know it's going to instrument 1, Audio 1, FX 1
      Maybe I'll work up a scribble strip and fix to the bottom of the monitor for each project...old school

    Wow think with this method you can send the midi from Microtonic beatspace into other drum devices. Will check when home

  • @buckycore
    @buckycore Год назад +2

    So you're saying the individual track method is less intensive on CPU than having the individual midi channels and instrument in an instrument layer? I actually learned that first method from one of your earlier videos (in fact, I think it was the first video of yours which I viewed)

    • @x-iso
      @x-iso Год назад

      specifically Instrument Selector (and I'm guessing any Selector type device) doesn't split up to different threads of CPU, but Instrument Layers does actually split up to CPU threads, but then you could bottleneck it with common post-processing after instrument layers device. but pretty much same as if you put FX on Group track.

  • @mttlsa686

    Isn't this the same as routing a midi track with no instruments and midi clips with notes only into multiple midi track with instruments (or better, multiple midi tracks with instruments receiving the empty midi track data) in ableton live?

  • @Trk-El-Son
    @Trk-El-Son Год назад

    Now what would be REALLY fun (for keyboard players): If Bitwig (or some plugin) could split incoming polyphonic midi into separate channels - e.g. lowest note ch.1, second lowest note ch. 2, etc. In other words, make the editing of channels an automatic (and instant) thing.
    Has anybody found a way to do this?

    • @auedpo
      @auedpo Год назад +1

      Yes! There's something that does exatly this. It is a utility called *Divisimate* and it rocks! I found it initially because I was doing orchestral work and it was a huge help. Think about how awesome it is to be able to play four-part harmony on the keyboard and have it 'automatically orchestrate' the resulting midi. It does all of this in realtime and you can save preset 'orchestrations' where for instance you can have it take the lowest played pitch and transpose it up one octave and route it to two specific midi channels. This in effect allows you to create these voicings where in an orchestral setting you can have the flute and french horn double the viola line while the bassoon and clarinet double the cello line (in their respective octaves) its really awesome and very affordable! I've messaged the developer on occasion about a question or technical issues and they have been very response - so points for that too. :)
