    From an A&P/IA in the States, I'd say this was an excellent presentation of all that can be involved with cylinder removal.

      Totally agree. Plus if time passes, and you get involved with another project, and then you come back to this, you have something to review.

    How about trying the solvent flush that Mike Busch describes....to loosen sludge in the rings...and maybe save the cylinder from being removed?

    It's no wonder these aviation engines fail all the time. What a horrible design. And replacing only one piston at a time? There goes whatever balance the engine had.

      Perhaps you don't understand how these are built. They are designed to be able to replace only one cylinder if needed. Can you imagine replacing all 18 cylinders of an 18 cylinder radial just because one was bad???

      Id hope that they weigh the same, though these engines arent known for quality.
