Great video. I love the real-life lore being mixed into Genshin. So much world building, foreshadowing, and opportunities to delve into other cultures’ history and beliefs.
I think where excluding someone from capitano's identity more so two people from 500 years ago I've seen a lot of theories pointing to Tenoch or Hunapu all possible candidates but if you look up these two names Sundjatta and Sanhaj in a historical context they are Sundiata Keita and Yusuf Ibin Tasfin. in the tribal chronicles of the children of echoes Act two were shown a type of gem called a blaze gem inscription that's completely resistant to erosion the gem is in the same shape as the symbols of capitano epilates the symbol itself I believe a lines with the West African epa symbol which means slavery, justice, law and order it's possible that one of the two survived but also I believe that Sundjatta at this point has the strongest possibility as if you read the epic of Sundiata Keita you'll understand and also since the talking stick Sundjatta has wanted to bring about peace to all the tribes and wanted to stop the fighting in Natlan. which makes me think that Xilonen isn't going to in herit his name as he was the chief of the tribe and his qualities from what we know don't a line with her laid-back nature. further more, isn't a little strange that as soon as we arrive in Natlan we get a geo saurian and Sundjatta companion was also had Geo saurian called Muhuru either way just a working theory I have
Excellent find, I'll read up on those two now. I did wonder if the geo saurians would have some sort of special connection with the pyro sovereign since our little buddy is one but I bet that information will be a few patches away like the Narzissenkreuz quests we got during Fontaine.
I still have a fair bit to improve on but that's really nice of you to say. 10k views is pretty good for me too though, I think I'd be a bit overwhelmed getting the amount of views/comments that Ash gets haha
Couldn't believe it when I saw it, made me extra suspicious with all the talk of the Abyss not just being some mindless evil that a few characters mentioned.
I cant stop saying it but your voice is so good for Narrating !! Anyway your video is is amazing and I love the theory! I dont think the purple dragon is Nibelung. If we look at the Lore its either the corrupted corpse of the Pyro sovereign or another dragon. The Lore says that after the pyro dragon was defeated an usurper took residence in his lost city in the center of the Volcano. That dragon was described as a black and purple salamender-like dragon who had control other thunder, rain and abyssal filth. Said dragon named himself the Devious Volcano Lord who would even fight Pyro archon Cochanina, then Traore and the wayob 500 year ago only to either die or go back to the Volcano... its unclear Btw have you read Natlan "books" (records) ? If so what are your thought about Kuntur possibly being half human half seelie ? 👀 Or Waxaklahun Ubah Kan talking about a lunar continent to Chaac ? 👀 Who could be Qoyllur ? 👀 I would also like to point out that the shade of Death and the Lord of the Night are not the same person
Glad you liked it! I can see what you mean yeah, though I should've included the text that was probably a bigger part of my reason for thinking it was Nibelung: "You witness with your own eyes the gargantuan wings from beyond the world, the once glorious and grand figure now pitiable, having completely sunk into the terrifying shadow. The pitch-black flames scorch the land, and even the white tree nearly withered, and the final envoy's glow shattered and smashed, only able to subsist on the last leaves of the severed roots." The part about it being from beyond the world made me think it was Nibelung after leaving Teyvat to acquire Forbidden Knowledge, fits with him having black flames too but everything is quite vague in early patches as usual so I bet we'll get a much clearer picture as we get further in. Ohh yeah those were really interesting! I definitely think he's gonna be half-Seelie, it just fits too well and would allow us to get a bit more lore about the Seelie which is always welcome in my book. The lunar continent is quite a lore drop from him isn't it, not too sure if it's going to be a literal one on the moon or like a special name for something like Celestia but I'll take a look into that again tonight. What are your thoughts on it so far? Other than Qoyllur probably being a Seelie your guess is as good as mine haha, it'd be interesting if she was related to Columbina though. Hard to say at the moment but yeah it could be that the Lord of Night is more dragon related and came to some sort of agreement with the Shade of Death, maybe something to do with the whole resurrection thing as Neuvillette seemed to gain the memories of the original Hydro Sovereign after getting the elemental authority, kinda like Mualani's Ancient Name activating in the AQ.
Oh with this in mind I understand now why it makes you think of Nibelung plus Dragon civilization In Natlan builded "Watchtowers" to look at beyond the sky so yeah I can see that ahah That would be very interresting to develop as we dont have something like this yet. Half seelie person whould be cool not gonna lie! My first thought was something like a forgotten or hidden continent on the Moon (would be a good way to make a Genshin Impact Part II ahah) or simply another continent of Teyvat that worship the Moon or is protected by it (remaining of the Unified Civilisation perhaps ?) Idk ! OH thanks im not the only one who makes a connection between Qoyllur and Columbina ! Would be amazing ! Oh I see ! @@TheLaughingManLore

I only saw a few but I did see that animation! Absolutely loved it, it's from the book Moonlit Bamboo Forest which has been a favourite of mine for years so it was really nice to see it be so well done. Hoping we get a Bloodstained Knight or Wanderer's Troupe animation if they're at that quality.
A forgotten continent on the moon would be really interesting with the Seelie apparently living there at one point and all the stuff with the Boatman on Tsurumi Island talking about the lady of the golden halls (I think?) who lives on the moon. I'm pretty sure we'll get to visit at one point too, especially with them showing us stuff like the last stage of Imaginarium Theatre to get us thinking about what's outside of Teyvat. I saw the lore of the new Wings of Delicacies mention some really interesting stuff too, talking about an AI and a demon that were travelling through space, I only skimmed it so far but it's worth checking out on the wiki when you get time, I can see it leading to some good theories.
Another amazing video from you! And nice catch on the Tezcatlipoca parallels! 😮 Though I still believe he is Kuntur, with your findings about Itztlacoliuhqui, and him being shot at by the Sun and Kuntur being a target of the Sun, could fit pretty well, but your take on the Capitano-Maui possibility is great too! Or perhaps even Maghan, the fated Sovereign and dragon slayer, fits Capitano honestly, in the Flute of Ezpitzal, the girl who inherited the title of Holy Sovereign, I'm assuming says "The old pact shall be broken, and in its place you will establish a new one, bringing them true peace.", "Until the day we meet once more, my most loyal servant Dinga, dragon slayer and fated Sovereign Maghan.", this sounds close enough to what Capitano spoke about heralding a new age, and that the old must be destroyed, also the weapon is about Mictlan which of course is associated with the Masters of the Night Wind Very excited about the next Archon Quest!
Hey Trevor, nice one! Yeah the character of Kuntur seems really important for some reason doesn't he, just has that feel about him with his origins. Would explain Capitano being so strong too if he's basically a nephelim. After the 5.1 trailer I'm starting to think the Holy Sovereign thing might have some parallels with Mavuika if she's gonna try to sacrifice herself to save Natlan, really got my mind working overtime that trailer haha. Was excited finding the Vedrfolnir/Surtalogi stuff too since we've been discussing Surtalogi possibly appearing for a while now haven't we? I almost had to do a double-take reading that part haha
@@TheLaughingManLore I was surprised how well you connected the text of the viewpoint with Vedrfolnir, and yea it seems to make sense as he's a Visionary and I feel like he seems to have eyes everywhere. And I don't know if I'm going crazy but in the 5.1 trailer around 1:40 when the Abyss portal appeared, the center appears to be a black-hole like circle, the color scheme looks awfully similar to when the All-Devouring Narwhal opened it's mouth to devour the Fontaine citizens or when it's about to devour us in the boss battle, but could just be an Abyss thing though. Additionally I feel like Hoyo is going to pull an Arlecchino with Capitano xD, with how much theories have been speculated around him, I won't be surprised if he's another random dude who's just so strong, this thought came up when I was trying to connect Kuntur and Itztlacoliuhqiu and Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli, since Capitano looks all black, I feel like he's a shadow, and more so like an eclipse, I imagine him once being a star(this is more of an analogy btw), but his flames and radiance getting extinguished by the "Sun", and that lead me to Rerir, since his title is "Racher of Solnari", I imagine Solnari being not a Sun or a Moon, but an Eclipse or a Black Sun, and since Khaenriah once had a black sun, I wonder if instead of reverence towards the Crimson Moon like the people from the Crimson Moon Dynasty did, he worshipped the Black Sun of the Eclipse Dynasty? And if we look at the six cardinal sins listed by the Akademiya, it could allude to a "primary" sin, that the Sinners have commit, now I think they all have committed most or all of the listed sins, but I believe there's a major sin attached to each Sinner and Dainsleif, one of the sins is tampering with life and death, this could fit Rhinedottir, but I see Rerir fitting more of this, because Arlecchino is correlated with the Shade of Death and since she's a descendant of the Crimson Moon Dynasty and the fact that the black sun replaced the crimson moon at one point, this could imply whoever follows the Black Sun defies death as Arlecchino feels like the grim reaper. Now that's just baseless claims but from Capitano's words with Mavuika in the recent AQ cutscene and the new trailer, it seems he really hates the "rules", and I think it's the Ode of Resurrection, in which at least one member of the group must come back victorious to be resurrected, now this is where my crack theory starts, I think for whatever reason Capitano was the surviving member of a group who fought against the Abyss but he lost, maybe due to his mother Qoyllor being from the sky(Celestia maybe?)(this is going off the Kuntur theory), and it would explain his insane durability, driven by guilt he would pursue some sort of necromancy to revive them and perhaps he found it in Khaenri'ah, as seen by his strikingly similar outfit to Dainsleif. In Mika's Character Story it was mentioned that the Fatui soldiers seemed like "lifeless war machines", which could hint at Capitano's undead powers(?) and could align with the cardinal sin of tampering with life and death. I also want to add something from the Pale Princess and the Six Pygmies that elevates this theory, but it seems the other volumes are not officially released in the game(?), so I won't do that. But yea, sorry for that long text again haha, anyways back to the real topic, Capitano could just be someone we don't know.
Damn it does kinda look like the narwhal stuff doesn't it! My first thought was the Sea of Quanta with the blue cube stuff but I forgot that it seems all the narwhal inside realm stuff looked to be based on the SoQ architecture style. Oh god no don't say that haha, not with all the awesome theories out there! I can totally see it happening again though yeah. Rerir is such a good catch with all the moon stuff too, especially with Kuntur - I can see it happening with Capitano's lines in 5.1 of going back to save people if Rerir is an avenger or has that sorta theme about him. It'd be like a domino effect if you're right too as then it makes Pierro look even more suspicious if he's got a sinner working under him and just sorta thematically it'd pit Arle as the Crimson Moon's representative against him as the Black Sun's. Hmm! I'm hoping we get quite a lot more lore on the Sinners from Natlan so I'm gonna keep an extra close eye on anything related to Rerir now, praying we get at least some crumbs in 5.1. I love the way you're connecting the dots with Rerir and Kuntur, it would explain a bunch of things like his strength and his soldiers being all undead themed pretty well wouldn't it. Gah yeah it sucks not getting anything on those books for literal years now, even though they've all apparently been written. Makes me wonder if they're just not going to use them at this point or maybe totally re-write them as they did basically retcon that one Vennessa manga as far as I know with the Mare Jivari being created 500 years ago now. Could be some time manipulation shenanigans but seems it was just straight-up changed. I love reading a good theory so I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me, gets me thinking about all the other possibilities I hadn't thought of too. Though I do hope you're wrong on him just being some dude hahaha
@@TheLaughingManLore Another thing I want to add about the whole Rerir-Capitano theory is that it seems like the character of Rerir took inspiration from another Norse figure aside from Rerir, and that is Vidar, he was the son of Odin and was described to be a "silent god", now this won't be about Kuntur, but Maghan, in the Earth Shaker description it talks about Xbalanque, Yupanqui, the Tyrant Och-Kan and mentions of a silent priest, which is probably Maghan as he was said to be a priest. Vidar was said to have avenge the death of his father Odin, and similarly in the myths, Rerir avenged his father. The reason I came up with this theory of Rerir taking inspiration from Vidar, is again, because of his title "Racher of Solnari", I did say Solnari might be a Black Sun or an Eclipse, but I think said black sun could be King Irmin, as he was the ruler of the Eclipse Dynasty, and he's based on Odin. So going off this he might be Maghan and not Kuntur, or he's both, and he was resurrected xD, and the fact that they were both Masters of the Night Wind is kinda suspicious. And there are theories going around the Shade of Death Ronova being the Lord of the Night, if it is true, and because the Masters of the Night Wind's whole thing revolves around the Ley Lines and the Night Kingdom, it would add more merit to the Rerir theory, as every sinner also seem to oppose the Shades and the Primordial One: Rhinedottir-Shade of Life Rerir-Shade of Death Surtalogi-Shade of Space Vedrfolnir-Shade of Time Hroptatyr-Primordial One(Logos/Reason) What are your thoughts on this? Also because Citlali and Ororon seems to be the main focus next Archon Quest and the Night Kingdom, I wouldn't be surprised if Capitano's identity is hinted at or is straight up revealed haha
@@trevor8k Ah yeah I just recently had a discussion on that linking Maghan with the silent priest, such a good find. I don't think I've read much on Vidar though, very interesting linking him with king Irmin as I remember a while back I linked Capitano with Khaenri'ah with all the Sigurd stuff, quite a few things seem to link him to Khaenri'ah don't they? Even tangentially with the BSK story. I'd say the Lord of Night is either Ronova or the pyro sovereign/it's opposite so I bet we'll learn the most about them when we get to visit the Masters of the Night-Wind or actually, thinking about it again, maybe Ororon/Cap/Mavuika give us a bit more in 5.1 with all the Abyss/Night Kingdom scenes we saw. Ohh I don't think I've seen that connection with the shades and the sinners but that fits pretty much perfectly doesn't it? Even though we don't know much about Rerir, his moon connection ties him with Arle and her grim reaper theme and Skirk did that whole condensing the whale into a little black hole so that's pretty compelling too. Rhine/Vedrfolnir are the most obvious so they fit without having to think on it which just leaves Hroptatyr representing the PO (and possibly meaning he really is Irmin which I'd love). If it wasn't done on purpose I'd say that's a pretty huge coincidence. I hope so haha, I'm not 100% on who I want him to be the most as I change my mind while thinking of it from different angles but I do hope he's got Tenoch's memories at least so he'll be kinda like him as his backstory and ties to Mavuika would be the most interesting I reckon, especially with him having fought the Abyss a lot, his ties to the other heroes of the time and his battle creating the Mare Jivari.
I love this whole video but one minor note: I believe Tenoch was from the People of the Springs, since Tupac was from there and the Talking Stick lore states Tenoch knew Tupac before he was exiled, presumably because they were from the same tribe.
That was the other tribe I was considering since he and Tupac had the whole rivalry thing going on and there's hints they were going after the drinking horn prize from the lore of the Ash-Graven Drinking Horn but he also says "Your ancestor Uenuku would not have been so audacious." to Tupac and the clothing he's wearing looked to fit the more pale shades the Masters of the Night-Wind wear but I can see it going either way since the clothing colours are really similar.
There is some possibility that nibelung WAS the pyro sovereign before leaving the world and coming back corrupted. Which would mean xbalanque killed nibelung with the sage using phlogiston/sacredflame to burn away the corruption in nibelung's corpse which possibly also resurrecting xbalanque. Theres also a number of people who have suggested the wayob are a collective consciousness of multiple souls. Theres also the close visual representation of a wayob and an inquisitor baptist meaning verdofnir could have used how wayobs are made to make a baptist. (maybe from khaenrian souls rather than natlan ones)
There's a lot they could do to explain him having changed over the past 500 years like if he's some sort of revenant of Tenoch but I am slightly leaning more towards Capitano being someone else that inherited Tenoch's Ancient Name which might've only been lost and not destroyed.

Now I can't un-imagine Capitano getting shredded by the V@g¡na Dentata..
Yes. Capitano lore speculation, let's goooooooo

And there are theories going around the Shade of Death Ronova being the Lord of the Night, if it is true, and because the Masters of the Night Wind's whole thing revolves around the Ley Lines and the Night Kingdom, it would add more merit to the Rerir theory, as every sinner also seem to oppose the Shades and the Primordial One:
Rhinedottir-Shade of Life
Rerir-Shade of Death
Surtalogi-Shade of Space
Vedrfolnir-Shade of Time
Hroptatyr-Primordial One(Logos/Reason)
What are your thoughts on this?
Video notification came on while working - sneak off to try listen to some lol.
Lose job? Worth.
Best lore!
Awesome discussion, love Aztec history. Genshin has such great lore.
welp im not convinced by the tenoch purely because of blue eyes remark
Excellent as usual
18:06 Are you saying that Capitano could be Tenoch’s… _LINGERING WILL?!_
I thought it was interesting that the Wyaob spoke to Kachina and had a female voice, almost like a mother figure.
HI! can i have the title of the ost at 17:55? it was so relaxing badly need it ❤❤❤❤
Ahh that's such a nice track isn't it? It's called Maidens of Sactity, one of my favourites from Sumeru.
I guess Night Wind will be the Snezhnaya mechanic...
Sheer Cold 2: Tsaritsa Boogaloo
Behold the greatest genshin lore king! We patiently await your each and every upload!
Thanks man, I appreciate it. Though I'm just a feeble scholar haha
Kaeya = Kaya = King ?
Haha when I was writing this my mind did go to that too!
Guess who else needs to stay asleep in order to keep a whole world from being destroyed.
TUBBY the GREAT!
But Tenoch is an NPC
There's a lot they could do to explain him having changed over the past 500 years like if he's some sort of revenant of Tenoch but I am slightly leaning more towards Capitano being someone else that inherited Tenoch's Ancient Name which might've only been lost and not destroyed.
Yes but that doesn't stop them from potentially sharing the same ancient name.
Capitano is called Perinheri
is this ai voice or real voice? it's oddly unemotional yet human at the same time
It's my real voice haha, I just try to pronounce things to be as understandable as possible
@@TheLaughingManLoreI love your voice! And your lore :)
