- Becky Long is a lead nurse in a COVID ICU unit at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. This video shows what Becky are her colleagues are facing as unvaccinated COVID hospitalizations surge in December of 2021. It was shot during a 45-minute period of time during one of Becky's shifts.
I was on the covid floor in March of 2021 and spent 15 days on the ventilator and you all saved my life. I am celebrating a Christmas with my family that I almost didn't have. All because my heros never gave up on me. I have for months wanted to find a way to thank you all. My battle is feeling nothing comes close to enough to show the level of gratitude and thankfulness that is deserved for you all. The only way I can thank you is to help by telling my story and get people to get vaccines and hopefully make it so one less person you have come in the door. In case people don't know, the bell sound at 0:34 is the code bell, meaning a patient's heart just stopped and now needs emergency CPR to save their life. In a normal setting this bell sends every nurse and staff member flying into that room to help. That the charge nurse is so burned out on this sound that she doesn't react tells you everything you need to know about the level of exhaustion nurses are now working under.
@LOL CATZ while I agree not all code bells sound identical at all hospitals, the code bell at my current hospital sounds almost exactly like this. Aside from that, as an ICU nurse myself I have heard just about every beep and alarm there is to hear. Those are all pretty much standardized, because it's not like there are a lot of ventilator making companies or what have you. None of those alarms sound like this. Also, your unspecific yet dismissive response makes me think you don't actually work in healthcare. Maybe come back after you've passed a board exam and have gained many years experience working in the hospital setting like me, OK?
That’s the bell for a bed alarm and also emergency call bell (bathroom line was pulled or button pressed for help). Not an IV pump or code. Someone’s probably turning a patient or assisting them to the bathroom.

It’s crazy to think that we have so many Americans who just refuse to get vaccinated they are precisely the reasons they themselves are precisely the reasons for things like this to happen right now because people don’t want to do their part out of greed to end the pandemic it’s sad. I wish people would stop being misinformed. I wish that people would get off the bench, and do their part. It is the unvaccinated people like this who cause Examples as in this video to happen. I don’t like it anymore. It’s got to stop in this Country. This is one of millions of examples this is why it is so important to get vaccinated, and boosted to control the severity of variants that emerge from other Countries like Omicron did from South Africa, and Johannesburg. Public health, and politics never ever mix. People who are doing this I’m not blaming them I’m not weary of them but my patience is running thin with them I don’t hate them I don’t dislike them but their careless decisions are endangering us all. It is because of them that the winter surge of OmiCron, and Delta are happening, and sparking fear. It is because of them that shows like Broadway are canceled again. They are the reason. People need to stop being so selfish. The ball drop of Times Square is being endangered then where would we celebrate the new year? New Orleans? This is a problem. The unvaccinated Americans are a problem. When will people ever learn? When will people ever learn how to listen to public officials instead of their own deeds of nobody else’s but themselves?

Hayden, that isn't true. We had two COVID units recently and now we have seven. Hospitals are at a breaking point - we wouldn't share this information if it wasn't the case.
