Amazing video! Well worth the wait. You are, hands down, the best RUclipsr who recounts the marvelous history of Williamsburg VA. Keep up the amazing work. We all certainly appreciate your efforts!
Wow, that was an amazing discourse. It rang special to me as the Chiswell Bucktrout House is the first Colonial Home I lodged in on my first visit to Colonial Williamsburg in 1985. I remember hearing of some nefarious dealings and crimes associated with Chiswell, and this video did an amazing job of binging the times and affairs to light. Thank you and your team, well done. Gary C.
Wow , such a great documentary, love the story telling well done then the video of where things took place . Brilliant Job , 😊 I could watch videos like this for hours. !! Well Done Scott and Sara Well Done!!
I have missed you. This is brilliant with amazing photography and editing and the story. Whenever I see pictures of the capital I am reminded that George Washington was a burgess for 15 years; and often stayed at Christiana Campbell‘s. He was a student at William and MARY with my ancestor John Waller, where they both studied surveying. In January 1777 John Waller appeared at the capital to enlist in the Virginia Militia; and George Washington immediately made him a captain on his military staff. I love your videos of course I am subscribed; and I hope to see more soon. Thank you for getting my mind off of the drama of this election.. --Jeffrey Hancock Shonert, William and MARY class of 1972. ❤
Great series! Well done. Had grandparents in Suffolk when I was young. We’d go Williamsburg the day after Thanksgiving each year. Watching the videos is going back in time for me
As always an excellent and informative video. I love Virginia history. My family has been here since Jamestown. This is very well told. Gloucester should be a part of our Historic Triangle.
Been doing some history on Williamsburg for my little trip this weekend. I'm from Virginia but have never gotten out that way. Would love a home in Williamsburg area. One of the last authentic areas left.
Scott and Sarah what can I say? Quest Capsule 2.0! What flavor and depth this brings to the history of CW. And, as always, I so appreciate your special attention to the background music. I think I might watch it again just to hear it again! 👍👍👍
Fantastic!! I'll be greedy and request that y'all please do Old Town Alexandria and, or Fredericksburg next! Really enjoyable content - the effort is greatly appreciated 😊
Scott/Sara you guys are the best, I’m so thankful for your hard work and dedication in telling the stories that have gotten lost, your hard work shows in the amazing videos you produce!!! So from all of your RUclips viewers THANK YOU !!!
Please say a prayer for us. Here in Grayson county Va. and the city of Galax it looks like a war zone. I live in town so I was only out of power for a bit over 24 hours. Our water plant was devastated. Water is spotty and nasty. Internet is off and on...buffers a lot and phones don't work at all. The New River that flows through here crested at 22 feet over flood stage. 98 percent of the people here have no power, phone service, internet or water. I have never saw anything like it. Many roads and bridges are gone. Trees down everywhere. Campers, cars, buildings, and even horses and cows are gone. I am one of the very blessed ones to have power now, and internet at times. The water is sporatic...but I can flush! The only flood on record here with a higher crest was in 1940 at 24 ft. There is more devistation now then during Hugo. Recovery is going to take a long time.
Cathy, We are so sorry to hear of this and what you and so many are having to endure right now. Its unbelievable. Prayers for you and everyone affected by the Hurricane. Please be safe and we hope recovery efforts happen soon. Stay strong, Your friends, Scott & Sarah💙🙏🎩
Scot! Holy cow. This was magnificent. The details and depth of research-astounding. I recently finished reading ‘Flight from Monticello’ where I first ran across this info. You expanded so much. Thank you for your hard work. We will be in The City end of October. Armed with all this knowledge we will be looking through new eyes.
I went to Fort Chiswell High School. Fort Chiswell was built in 1758 by Colonel William Byrd in honor of John Chiswell who discovered lead in Austinville, the same Austin that Austin, Texas is named for, which is down the road from where I live. I actually lived in Austinville for a while. I live in, and grew up in, Wythe County, VA. Named for George Wythe, who counseled Mr. Chiswell after his arrest. This end of Virginia is also quite steeped in history. It's where the action took place behind the scenes, so to speak.
Col. William Evelyn Bird III is my 2nd cousin 7x removed b. 1728 d. 1777. His Grandfather Col. William Evelyn Bird I brother Thomas Bird my 7th great grandfather……
Dude these are top quality- voiceover guy is killin’ it- videographer also - script writer didn’t bore me either 👍- if you added a few costumed main characters/ silent actors, it could be a BBC documentary for all you can tell
While browsing through my Facebook page a story came up about the Walker sisters and I wanted to explore more and find out about them as their story was fascinating to me. Through doing that I then discovered your channel of when you covered the Walker sisters cabin. I loved the presentation and how articulately you told the story of those wonderful ladies. So I have now subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching all your videos. May I just say thank you in advance for all the ones I'm going to be catching up on and the ones in the future? Blessing to you both. ❤ from a happy older lady on this side of the old pond 🇬🇧🙏🏻
According to the locals, you drove right by the murder scene to get to Mosby's Tavern. Local historians say the murder took place at a home/tavern called "Belnemus."
Still going on today! James Town glass is not sold in Williamsburg. China glass is in the gift shops. Jamestown was making the same stuff just down the road. The story tellers of Williamsburg were the most interesting part of my visit , but the eye opener were the gift shops! As many times as it burnt down, it's a shame . Going to American historic places and buying china products. That's the country we've made.😢 sorry for the rant great video. I didn't hear about it on any tour , or maybe missed it.
I met the Colonel. My wife and I stayed at the Chiswell Bucktrout house for our anniversary. We had been to Williamsburg many times prior and always enjoyed the ghost tour. So we knew that the home was supposedly haunted. Well, on our second night there, at precisely 4 am , my wife woke me up to see what was happening. As I slowly came to I was surprised to hear a very loud noise coming from the hallway. Now the house is very old and the floors and doors are noisy. I remember remarking to my wife that whenever someone enters or leaves their room the entire house is alerted. So when my wife woke me up I noticed that whatever is making the noise isn’t walking down the hallway because there was no footsteps or squeaky noises from the wooden floor. The noise was super loud and moving slowly towards our door. It sounded like someone smashing heavy metal chains on the walls but there was NO AMBIENT sound ( no echo from the walls or floors. I noticed that immediately because I am an audio guy and a musician. As the loud noise came closer my wife was screaming for me to confront the source. I ain’t scared to fight but a ghost is a different beast. When it arrived at our louvered door I looked through to see who or what it was but there wasn’t anyone outside the door Then it violently began to shake the door! I thought it was going to come into our room but thankfully it slowly moved down the hallway and seemed to leave through the roof. Immediately all of the people staying there came out to compare notes. We were all convinced it was supernatural. At 8 am i found the cleaning staff and recounted the experience. They looked at me like I just proclaimed water is wet. They said, “ Don’t you know this place is haunted? We only come here in 2s because of the ghost. I have been back a few times to say hello but the rooms are o longer rented out. I wonder why?
I clicked in because I love this period of history and also because I have lived on Chiswell Road for 40 years. Never used a silent w in the pronunciation. Have I been saying it wrong?
Would love to hear more about the life of George Washington in the Brady Station area. Seems to be getting a lot of buzz these days. I've been told he was a surveyor as early as 17 years old? Hard to believe, but maybe so. It seems he was also a very effective multitasker. Not sure if this was true. Some research in this area would be appreciated.
Seems to me he was more unfortunate in business than dishonest. There were no charges levied at him over Robinson's embezzlement, correct? The only controversy was the death in the tavern. And that was never resolved.
Throughly enjoy your videos. Researched and aptly narrated, they give Colonial Williamsburg lovers an armchair visit. Thank you.
That means a lot! Appreciate your comment and kind words, thank you!🎩
I thoroughly enjoyed this story of old Williamsburg. Thank you for your research and taking us all on the journey through time.
You're very welcome Elaine! Thank you!🎩

Great as always!

Excellent and fascinating.

Loved this video. ❤❤❤
Amazing and interesting. I wonder how he did die. Excellent recounting of the events. The scenery and landscaping are so beautiful.
According to the Virginia Gazette he appears to have taken his own life but you never know? Thanks so much Joanne!!🎩

True Virginia. Loved the fig trees, true to Virginia.
Seems to me he was more unfortunate in business than dishonest. There were no charges levied at him over Robinson's embezzlement, correct? The only controversy was the death in the tavern. And that was never resolved.
You should known he was sneaky when he didn't pronounce the w in his name.
Sounds familiar. We never learn.
You should write a book.
