- Two nitro dragsters fail to achieve their goals and yet somehow produce an entertaining race. Can you recall a race that was similarly strange and yet awesome?
This chaotic sequence from the 2012 Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway in Australia was not short on drama.
Both Allan Dobson (left lane) and Phil Lamattina (right lane) had their engines explode at almost exactly the same time, rendering the 10,000hp Top Fuel dragsters (the same in Australia as you see in the NHRA) powerless. What followed was one of the strangest, slowest and yet brilliant races ever seen from the nitro cars. Would you believe the race ended up being decided on a holeshot?
That was hysterical!! Whoever had the strongest breeze behind him won!

I guess technically less power than a Junior Dragster for the last part of the track, haha!
If you think that’s good, try and find the video of 2 bikes at the Pert Motorplex. They stall or break not to fat off the line and have a running race to the finish
