    Love these rules. No other game has abstracted vehicle rules well enough for me. Elite Dangerous RPG came close with a range system, but this is even smoother.

    I'm usually more into post-apocalyptic sci-fi than Cyberpunk, so I see potential in using this for road wars like in Mad Max. :D

    Very fun to see, I love the vehicle system in Neon Skies. And the abstracted playmat system on display here really ties it all together in a visually appealing and easily understood way, love it.

    Least aggravating vehicular rules I've seen. Well built.

    BSF is a really inspired system especially with the aesthetics. I think some of the best game design comes from taking a familiar system and presenting it and skinning in your own context. So far this is my favorite bit of neon skies and Im glad youre showcasing it

    OK, using the airbrush to give the lines in the street a neon glow is an awesome idea! I am going to have to do that to a couple test pieces then add that to my massive modular Cyberpunk BattleBoard...after I paint the last 72 minis for CP2077: Gangs Of Night City.

    Really cool idea for car chases! Looking forward to this game.

    I really like that the distance is abstracted; no rolling out endless ribbons of the same highway, no going off the east side of the table to reappear on the west. Reminds me a little of Call of Cthulhu chase rules, very elegant.

    This all seems very nice but I have so many questions regarding the rules...
    What can players or NPCs do to escape and not fight in vehicle combat? Same with the normal combat: when a character jumps into, say a food booth to hide and take cover. What about an enemy following that charakter into the booth to attack him in close combat? Is the charakter pulled out the booth right into the melee area? Is the booth now a free for all close combat area? Terrain doesn't seem to matter at all, so a character shooting from a window at the 3rd floor is just placed next to the container because the container means cover? That is confusing. So when someone blasts up the food booth (container?) is just the Charakter hiding there is pulled out into the open and the one in the window is still next to the container? That's a bit confusing for theatre of mind.
    And if there's no moving and ranges how can you simulate reaching a point of interest under fire?
    I mean I really don't like the Shadowrun 6th Ed. rules. And I always hated it when the wargamers took over and startet arguing but i really have a hard time to wrap my mind around Neon Skies' approach.

      If you desire to have all of that minutae simulated to the letter as opposed to abstracted and handled narratively, then Neon Skies is probably not for you.
      I can think of how I would address all of those sub-questions but I don't think you will be satisfied with the answers. But thanks for considering and watching the video.

      @@WylochsArmory Thanks for answering. I see. I could come up with rules too, like escaping a car chase would be opposed driver tests. You need to win three in a row - one 'on each lane'. Maybe even differnet rules to fit the situation. And so on. I would like that. But not many of my players.
      Last time I was GM one of them told me that he doesn't like my 'cheating'. I should fudge the dice rolls instead of having different players roll diferent numbers. He could not understand that I changed difficulties for a narrative reason. Because per rules every roll should have been the same.
      Like: A player climbs a cliff. There's no reason to haste. Nothing important relies on that role. He just wants to check if thats a possible way to get somewhere. I just want to check if he behaves too stupid doing that and have him make 2 rolls for 10. Later another player climbs the exact same cliff. But he tries to escape, or reach something in time. So I have him roll 4 times for 16 to create some tension. How can that be?! I must dislike him and want him to fail.
      The few players that were interested asked for visuals because they don't like narrative gaming for it's uncertainty. They wanted to know all the thing in a battle that Neon Skies just ignores. You can play Neon Skies with 4 coasters each representing a zone and you're set. But I have rules lawyers in my gaming round. And there just are none of the rules the usually rule. They don't like that. Too bad. :(
      (I stopped GMing for these reasons and just play as a player)

    • @wesleyrussell8386
      @wesleyrussell8386 3 месяца назад

      OK! I've watched it! It solves the problem of other vehicle rules or even things like hacking in cyberpunk, where one player is just off playing their own game separate from everybody else. I love how the entire party is involved and can take actions! I feel like with just a few sessions of play slinging will become second nature and actions will just be flying by

    So you can't choose to avoid the combat by accelerating away? Even if the others have all braked?

    • @WylochsArmory
      @WylochsArmory  3 месяца назад

      If you perform Floor It three times during the chase, you can escape it altogether. There's a few other nuances like that which are in the book but not worth covering in the video. The video gives the basic structure.

    Cool game design, but it's not for me. I love running battle maps with literal distances and specific terrain impediments. The abstraction is good for the car chases, but I don't like that the hand-to-hand combat is abstracted as well. Good luck with your game though!
