My all time favourite movie "Sairat" released in 2016 . Premiered at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. The film's budget only 4 crore , boxoffice collection 110 crore and became the highest-grossing Marathi film of all time. Rajguru received the National Film Award - Special Mention at the 63rd National Film Awards. Sairat received 11 awards at the 2017 Filmfare Marathi Awards, including Best Film, Best Director (Manjule), Best Actress (Rajguru) etc. Rajguru and Thosar won in the Best Debut female and male categories. The film was remade in several languages: Manasu Mallige (2017) in Kannada, Channa Mereya (2017) in Punjabi, Laila O Laila (2017) in Odia, Noor Jahaan (2018) in Bengali and Dhadak (2018) in Hindi. Edit: RX 100 (2018) in Telugu, Uppena (2021) in Telugu. These movie's director also get little bit an inspiration from 'Sairat'.

Nagraj Manjule comes across as a soft-spoken and humble person (which he is), but as a filmmaker he's an absolute maverick. His stories, his way of presenting those stories, the dialogues, the setting, the music and most of all the casting. Any student or lover of cinema should watch all of his work. The social commentary in his work is spot-on and hard-hitting, but it's never bitter or divisive. At the same time, the comedy is hilarious too. A special artist indeed.

Whenever I see NM, tears of appreciation automatically well up in my eyes. Watched this entire episode with moist eyes because he's such an interesting personality. Maybe, maybe this may not be the best episode, possibly among the best though but, this episode has the best line ever when Saurabh reiterated emphatically "Aap hai hamare hero"
Sairat and Jhund maybe more popular but "Fandry" is the film which changed Indian film industry forever. All Indian films could be divided into two categories... Movies before Fandry and movies after Fandry.

What a coincidence...I finished reading "Waiting for a visa" an autobiographical life story of B.R.Ambedkar and now chanced upon this episode where untouchables are one of the subject. I have been trying to search for authentic sources on origins of untouchability, how does it started in our society, was it imported idea from medieval periods. I could not able to find the term "dalit" so far in any ancient world. Unfortunately still exists in 21st century, a shame for the humanity.
Untouchability starts in later Vedic period that's why a kshatriya rajkumar afterwards named Gautam Buddha made another religion from Hindu bodh Dharam in which that was equality

Nagraj Manjule is talented Indian film director. His film will always show you commenting on the caste system in the society. Some people in the film industry try to put a stamp on him as a director who makes social films. But he is basically from that background, which somewhere reflect in his art. Every director has his own style. In current scenario someone is of the same standard as Satyajit Ray, it is only Nagaraj Manjule.

Nagraj Manjule comes across as a soft-spoken and humble person (which he is), but as a filmmaker he's an absolute maverick. His stories, his way of presenting those stories, the dialogues, the setting, the music and most of all the casting. Any student or lover of cinema should watch all of his work. The social commentary in his work is spot-on and hard-hitting, but it's never bitter or divisive. At the same time, the comedy is hilarious too. A special artist indeed.

What a coincidence...I finished reading "Waiting for a visa" an autobiographical life story of B.R.Ambedkar and now chanced upon this episode where untouchables are one of the subject. I have been trying to search for authentic sources on origins of untouchability, how does it started in our society, was it imported idea from medieval periods. I could not able to find the term "dalit" so far in any ancient world. Unfortunately still exists in 21st century, a shame for the humanity.
Dalit word was used in recent years, search for "Shudra",
You will find the answer in "Who Were the Shudras?" the book written by Dr Ambedkar

नागराज मंजुळे की पढाई कम्युनिकेशन स्टडीज न्यू आर्ट्स कॉलेज अहमदनगर मे हुई थी. उन्होने पिस्तुल्या शॉर्ट फिल्म यहा पर ही बनाई थी. वे डिपार्टमेंट के पहले बॅच के पहले विद्यार्थी थे जुने नॅशनल अवॉर्ड मिला था. उनकी पत्नी और वे एक साथ ही पढे हे में भी इसी डिपार्टमेंट में पढ रहा हूं.

Castism is still exist in a big cities. So those who says it's over let me tell them that I am the victim of the same in city like Mumbai. It also took me to the stage where I wud have taken my life inspite of being well educated and after having best job.
The problem is that it has penetrated to our DNA level. Even the most progressive though work along and against discrimination, inherently they face discomfort in their thoughts for an instant atleast when they come face to face in reality. It will go away only when one becomes aware of this, and this does not happen easily.
