Well, I was the main guitarist at a small church that just started. I even made improvised solos for pieces I had no clue of direction other than chord progressions given by the keyboardist. I used knowledge not only of the keys but of the blue notes of the chords and passing chords to create the solos. Especially when He would just say out of nowhere guitar solo. Fun times.
My main key point to any future solo endeavors is to use everything you can do and perform in all improvised solos and always practice improvised solos even on the most basic jam tracks to improve.
