  • Professor Roger Pielke Jr. delivers his inaugural lecture as Honorary Professor at UCL STEaPP.
Policy responses to COVID-19 around the world were characterised by a recent investigation as "a profound tragedy and a massive global failure."
This talk draws upon lessons learned in the pandemic for our management of that incredibly messy place where science, policy and politics collide.
Making more informed decisions, improving societal outcomes, and even rescuing democracy from itself, depends upon building new institutions of appropriate expertise.
Professor Pielke Jr.’s talk will be followed by a panel discussion with Professor Sarah Edwards (Professor of Bioethics, UCL STEaPP); Sarah Chaytor (Director of Research Strategy & Policy, UCL and Director of UCL Public Policy); Dr Luke Bevan (Research Associate, ZINC and STEaPP Doctoral alum); and moderated by Professor Joanna Chataway (Head of Department, UCL STEaPP).
