Yes. The heat in nyc can be unbearable during the summer. The concrete, buildings, cars, and all those people contribute to what's already a hot and humid city.

I have been to phoenix during the summer and it is sure hot as hell but its very dry and cools off nicely as the day progresses. Nyc has a different kind of heat during the summer. Although the temperatures are not as hot as phoenix but the heat in nyc feels worse because it gets extremely humid and the surrounding landscape (concrete ,asphalt, buildings etc) keeps the heat trap so there is no relief as the day progresses. It could be 80 degrees at 2 am in the morining due to the trapped heat. Its impossible to sleep unless you have air condition. I will take phoenix at 110 degrees and 13% humidity compared to nyc 95 degrees and almost 80% humidity any day.
