My grandparents live there currently! Their house is a stones throw from the museum and looks older than it really is as it’s modeled after the home they lived at in Lehi, Utah (and was the house used for the preacher’s home in the original Footloose). It’s really such a beautiful area.
Love Silver Reef. Where history and geology collide! The geology is truly unique. Pine Valley Mountain, the mountain in the background to the west of Silver Reef, is a laccolith (intrusive igneous complex) and likely brought the silver with it when it was emplaced. I did a senior thesis on the town and always feel nostalgic when I see it. Thanks Justin for the great tour and the fun way you present history. And good choice to take old hwy 91. Beautiful stretch. Safe travels home.
If you're ever in Southeast Arizona, I suggest going to Clifton/Morenci. Its home of one of the largest open pit copper mines, and the town has some interesting history! The original jail is built into the mountain, and the guy who built it was the first one who was incarcerated in it because he got a little too rowdy celebrating that it was finished! Then the Chase Creek downtown area, the cemetery where folks are buried standing up on the side of a mountain to safe space. Its so cool! Id be happy to show you around!
I’ve enjoyed this trip/adventure you’ve been on. I’m born and raised in Vegas and still live there. My grandparents lived in St. George when I was growing up in the 70’s and 80’s so southern Utah is basically a second home to me. However I’ve never been to silver reef. I’ve seen the sign on I-15 but never knew there was a ghost town there. I know you can see a couple of ruins near there driving by on the I-15. Also my grandparents house was 3 blocks from Brigham’s winter home so it was fun to see you in places I’m familiar with. Anyways, thanks for this series of videos. Wish I could’ve ran into you when you were in Vegas. Happy trails!!
You should come to Ogden Utah, there are some cool historic places and events that happen from time to time. If you are ever up this way, hit me up, and I can show you around.
You were about a mile from my house when you ate at costa vida. You could have come over and I could have interviewed you for my Disneyland podcast. Maybe next time! Great videos always!
The Wasatch always has snow in the winter lol. We used to go up to SaltLake when we lived in St.George. Utah is still my favorite place ❤. SilverReef is one place we haven't been in. Loved the adventure. We are still trying to figure out our vacations this year. Utah is high on pur list. Roswell New Mexico is amazing. Thankyou kiddo ❤
What a great little museum from a town long gone except for the jail the Wells Fargo office and some ruins. People led hardscrabble lives back then but with the mine came money and people lived pretty nicely until the end of the mining. That older gentleman explained quite nicely how sandstone can have silver ore in it. Very rare geological oddity. On the web you can do a visual tour of the mine thanks to the museum there. So interesting of a self guided tour Jason!
Justin, that whole little singing thing you were doing in your car at the end of this video, that's how you keep yourself awake when your by yourself on all those car trips you take to various filming locations when you go to them, isn't it!?!?
While watching a Vegas video I told my husband it would be funny to see you walking around filming. Then you show up in my town Cedar City and I still don't see you walking around! If you don't like the weather in Cedar just wait 15 minutes.
next time you find yourself in san francisco please visit presidio national park so much to do and so much rich history not to mention the disney fam museum of course, the gg bridge and the palace of fine arts (little mermaid ride facade for you dca folks) . soo many ww2 bunkers and barracks still standing a national cemetery bowling rock climbing camping biking hiking two hotels you name it as well as all sorts of native flora and fauna found through out the park. maybe give it a thought. regardless love the content been a long long time viewer (highlight spiky hair days). cheers!
If you want some Silver mining history check out Cerro Gordo mines . . Check out Ghost Town Living. Its the reason why Los Angeles is why it is.I highly recommend it.
If you are in st george checkout sandtown pizza..That is my sons place . See if they have anything you can have being gluten free. But they would love to see you. Drive safe.In that area is where the electric horseman was filmed to release the horse
Of course that restaurant was gluten friendly.... gluten only exists in bread products. I'm so tired of everything that doesn't have gluten.... like steak... having a label saying gluten free!

Bro that's just classic lmao you are definitely one funny dude i'll be watching your videos now thank you
Welcome to the neighborhood. That snow was a complete surprise! I live like 2 blocks from your hotel. Enjoy the altitude and winter conditions.
It was definitely a weird morning ! Go say hi to my friend Luke if you ever drive past Whittlesticks!

Put on my stop and look list next trip to UT.
Wow I loved this one. I went there in the late 80s but have a vague memory of it. Amazing

Also, Safford, which is roughly 45 mins from Clifton, has a CCC camp site which still has some standing buildings/walls!
I love your videos so much! They are amazing!! Glad alley is feeling better. Thanks again

Thats pretty much me about 25% of the day but yes
While watching a Vegas video I told my husband it would be funny to see you walking around filming. Then you show up in my town Cedar City and I still don't see you walking around! If you don't like the weather in Cedar just wait 15 minutes.
The ending made me chuckle 🙊
Next time you're out Cedar City way you ought to check out the Mountain Meadows Massacre site.
Winter wonderland
Hey Justin & alley . Love your videos . And appreciate what you guys do . How can I buy you lunch ? Keep up the good work .
I remember when that building was a ruin. When it was restored, it was an art gallery for a time.
Oh hey, my neck of the woods! Hi!
I weird seeing my hometown in a video of yours
Don't feel bad. Its literally 17 degrees at the time (January 13, 2025 at 17:17 EST) of me typing this comment.
Yay 😁 😅
That jail reminds me of the jail at Knotts with the guy that talks to you. I forget his name but you know him! 😊
I’ve never understood why you get so many oil changes? In the Uk we do it once at a car service per year

I bet you were the highlight of Glen’s day.
Did you go on 1-15 all the way home? It looks like you took a different road
See I would be celebrating snow. I’m Australian but I can’t stand the summer and too much heat. I actually get a rash.
If you are in st george checkout sandtown pizza..That is my sons place . See if they have anything you can have being gluten free. But they would love to see you. Drive safe.In that area is where the electric horseman was filmed to release the horse
It's a big art community
You could have met up the Wonderhussey, that other famous RUclipsr, who lives near Parhump.
I went to Silver Reef as a kid in the 1980s when it was a true ghost town. Empty foundations and no one living there.
my ancestor was the one who found the first silver there
Snowing everywhere in the midwest , same time!, annoying.
You forgot Ally!!
Does your aunt know Wonderhussy ( Sara jane)
Of course that restaurant was gluten friendly.... gluten only exists in bread products. I'm so tired of everything that doesn't have gluten.... like steak... having a label saying gluten free!
You should of driven 40 miles more and no snow
First!
