TAGATA PASIFIKA: Makatea Island Phosphate Mining

An Australian company wants to re-open an old phosphate mine which closed in 1966. The mine is on the island of Makatea - and in its heyday attracted workers from around the region, especially from the Cook Islands. Now home to just 86 people, locals are in two-minds about re-opening the works.
