I think because the words are there on the screen, we subconciously hear those words? Because thats what happened to me. I heard it before this and I didnt hear any of that, and then when i played it here, and i saw the words, i heard what Izuku heard. So Im pretty sure thats it. If you really did hear what he heard without that extra influence then yeah, I guess thats what you're supposed to hear.

So this is what I think happened...
I had a student that had to fight for their honor, in a stand off. I attempted to stop the fight but ended up getting injured, but then I stop and think “wait...I’m on a-“ then I realize I’m standing on a rooftop then in my head I hear “ stand off [as in jump off].
So basically I think I was high on meds and thought that I was about to die in a rooftop fight after protecting someone [my student] I care about, then the meds wore off and I was on the edge and my final suicidal thought told me to jump.
The “wait” could have been the subconscious part of my brain telling me not to move because I might fall and die. And the “on a-“ would have been me slowly realizing I was on a rooftop about to fall off.
