The instructions supplied with my bushings said that the thicker bushing goes on top and the skinnier bushing goes on bottom. Or, rather, the skinny bushing goes between the bracket and the transmission. They printed this in bright red text on their instruction pamphlet. The ones they sent me also had "Boomba" written on the thicker bushing, which would be "visible" with the bracket installed so it seemed to make sense. Anyway, this video helped me a lot with getting down there and having the confidence to work on it. Thanks a bunch!
Just installed these and initial feelings after a couple runs were that shifts felt much more crisp. Solid video, although didn't expect the sound symposer to be so in the way (for those who have it), make it slightly more of a pain, but whole install took about an hour
Just finished this mod with a different companies bushings and RTV worked amazing to hold the bushings in place for me...take away a couple of issues that were self inflicted and it was still a super easy install. BTW get the NTC bushing for the actual shifting attachment it makes a huge difference and makes this mod even more worth it!
Dude your videos are awesome! Totally helpful for someone like me who has really never worked on cars before to get my feet wet. One suggestion- maybe you'd consider investing in a way to mount a camera on your head or something similar so that you can work with both hands while filming. Keep it up, and thanks!
hey bro, i have a question, just yesterday in my 2013 ST is stuck in first gear, cannot shift into neutral or any other gear. so i took the ring pieces off of the bracket, but i left the cables on the linkage and im able to shift into neutral. I have no idea wtf im doing but atleast i made a little progress lol. Would you have any idea what the issue might be? thanks in advance
Just compress the intake boot and take that off instead of the whole intake. I just did this job as well as the shifter cable bushings and it was not too bad except for the fact the bushings need to be held in place on the bracket when youre trying to install.. be sure to throw some dumdum on the bushings to keep them there while you move the bracket around. Also make sure you understand one of these 3 bolts is longer on the tranny bracket. Its the bolt that holds the clutch retainer bracket. Get this right as that bolt will bind in the other two holes and will not go flush. I did this a bit different but same results.
@@FatGuyBuilds nah man i just did this to mine. But everyone tackles a problem differently. Do you. Also while youre there mine as well do the shifter cable bushings too. Although nbd to get to later... just pop off that intake boot. And youre staring at it.
For plastic and rubber you should use silicone brake caliper grease, not wheel bearing grease. Good video though. Great job on camera angles. I'll be doing this myself soon.
I also installed these and it feels way harder to put into reverse. Before I felt like it just fell into reverse. Now I feel like I really have to force it. And I even did the cable adjustment
You did something wrong then. This should not have affected anything with ur cables. Make sure the shifter isnt hitting the carpet of anything else under it
Hey dude, any clue if those bushings will work for the mk3 N/A foci? The shifter bushings inside the center console worked no problem, so just wondering. Thanks!
I'll see if I can get to it tomorrow. I haven't actually gotten in to look at it yet. If I'd known about those bushings when I installed my steeda short shifter transmission bracket I would've looked while I had everything apart. Are you on focusfanatics or focusst?
+Jason Georgievski right I got the bushings in, but on the far right bushing there's that piece that holds the clutch line, mine fell like yours did and I put it back on on top of the bushing instead of under. is that cool or should I swap it?
no sir! it is just that the car is in another state for 3 more weeks. I am going to phx to tow it back in 3 weeks. There has been production on the car. I will hopefully record some next weekend. once I get it back here the Focus will go on the back burner. Sorry for the delay. I guess I should make an update video stating all of this today.
The thin bushing goes between the bracket and the transmission. Thick bushing goes on the top of the bracket. According your video, you place the bushing in the wrong side. It's why your bracket flex after your installation of this mod.
Exact. But you raise the bracket whit the thick bushing between the tranny and the transmission and cause the little deviation of your cable (i think). Mine and couple of my friend don't have flex after this mod.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your in depth videos. Keep on doing what you're doing!
Thanks. If u wanna help me make more videos maybe help me out on patreon.
Thanks for this video, I just installed new bushing on my ST and your video made it go very smoothly. I didn't even need the directions :)
+Amy West sweet thanks

Anthony Pavlak well everything fit and it works great. super happy with them.

Peter Krysinski I have a video for you to delete that as well

Thanks man just installed mine and this was a big help. Wrench on!
Thank you
Short and sweet guide! Thanks a ton!
Glad it helped!

Sounds like the tranny is broke or u had accidentally swapped the cable positions

would have been harder to do and impossible to video anything that way.

great vid helped allot, however when i was done i felt the second gear became stiff any idea what i've done wrong
did you lube everything?

doesnt matter in this senario
Great video man! Keep them coming!
Thanks For Watching!!!
what caused you to have to fix the bushings I have a 05 focus and the shifter is freely moving side to side and front to back won't go in any gear
brrttken sloppy shifter and mis-shifts due to assembly movement
Jason have you had your car on a rolling road yet mate? What bhp you working with?
going off of what others have made with same mods. I should be around 360TQ and 275HP @ the wheels
I also installed these and it feels way harder to put into reverse. Before I felt like it just fell into reverse. Now I feel like I really have to force it. And I even did the cable adjustment

Drizzt8540 send me a picture of the bracket under your hood. does it look close to the same?
I'll see if I can get to it tomorrow. I haven't actually gotten in to look at it yet. If I'd known about those bushings when I installed my steeda short shifter transmission bracket I would've looked while I had everything apart.

Thanks, sent you a message via tapatalk.
the easiest way I found was to remove the battery and the housing. the task became significantly easier after that
did you have problems with the radio? when do you connect the battery
Thanks For Watching!!!
is glue 100% necessary? i have none
No but it does make life easier.
that piece that fell that you use for the clutch cable, I put that bracket on top instead of under. does that matter?
g
the bushings will work either way you put them. I have see no issues with them either way.
+Jason Georgievski right I got the bushings in, but on the far right bushing there's that piece that holds the clutch line, mine fell like yours did and I put it back on on top of the bushing instead of under. is that cool or should I swap it?
Not that these videos arent great but is the monte a dead project?

No need to apologize man, I appreciate you sharing the journey! I look forward to the videos, keep up the good work!
5:35 you made me laugh.
you are welcome!!!!
those original bushings are designed to take vibration out of the cabin...you could develop a noisy rattle in the shifter later..just sayin.
You could. But this mode does not.
150k miles later and it is still perfect.
@@FatGuyBuilds off topic..have you had to replace the clutch yet?...or anything else ? thanks The old SVTs had a slew of problems
@@Mustangchef stock clutch still. I bought a new one last year. But i was gonna wait until it started slipping.

What are u talking about? My bracket does not flex after the install. Everything works great.
Between 07:32 - 07:43
That is that actual metal flex. There is ZERO movement where the bushings are.
Exact. But you raise the bracket whit the thick bushing between the tranny and the transmission and cause the little deviation of your cable (i think). Mine and couple of my friend don't have flex after this mod.
Then u were not pushing on the shifter hard enough. I was using a LOT of force on the shifter. There is nothing wrong with the bracket.
good god man clean that engine
Thanks For Watching!!!
I dropped the clutch retainer bracket plate thing. Just gunna zip tie it
Ummm that is retarded!
Wow you are dumb.
not tooo hard
Hope this video helped you!
Good video, thanks! Hope you get a tripod for your birthday so you can use two hands.
yeah i know right
