In pa, alot of bars have rooms for rent (that no one knows exist) in order to qualify for a hotel liquor license. So in the basement, they might have 6 closet sized rooms with just a bed.
This was the first video I've seen of yours that popped up on my feed, very well done. Your way of presentation kept the topic engaging from beginning to end, as someone who doesn't drink alcohol pubs, bars and taverns aren't places I could really fit into, but it really seems like an environment (alcohol or not) we're meant to create as humans. A comfy neutral space where anyone can gather together and hang out.
Excellent essay. Wish I had something constructive to add but you did such a great job. The closest I’ve ever experienced is the post-Easter celebration my church does. Wee hours of the morning, drinking alcohol, smoking pipes and cigars, one of the guys has a guitar and is doing songs and stories for the kids, catching up with families, me being the cool uncle to the kids and bringing a giant bowl of candy for them. Someone’s probably dancing somewhere. Almost every social aspect besides commerce/politics and romance.
I was recently gifted your channel on my feed through I assume other informative channels, and I'm glad I clicked on it. "Synthesis" pieces, like yours, which fuse history with modern challenges, a variety of relevant contexts, and fun facts are an absolute treat to engage with. Thanks for making these!
Here in Canada. The local curling club is a good pub kind of set up. Mostly Scottish/Canadian influence. Curling tournaments are called "bonspiels" and there is a dinner and dance that comes along with it. I can only speak for my club but there is an unwritten tradition of the winning team buying a round of drinks for the losing team and then the losing team buys the winning team the next round. Your pretty much socially guaranteed 2 drinks after every game if you want. Some clubs are quite upscale but my club is pretty middle class. Cheap drinks, basic pub food available, everyone knows the bartender.
Bobbers Tap in Window Illinois is a cool little place thats all outdoors. Its only open in the Spring and Summer and only on the weekends. But its right on the Pecatonica river and you can drink beer and fish. And theres live blues and country every Sunday. Its set up kinda like a boathouse. Its worth the drive if you're looking for an original experience.
I have a great local pub that I have been the sound tech at for when there are bands playing for more than a decade. Mixing there for nye tonight. Totally my third space, if I was religious these would be the people of my parish. Recently started a D&D campaign with some of the regulars. Obviously they met in a tavern.
Pretty much. A local bar with cheap drinks and kind of a dingy vibe. Apparently the term comes from when such establishments were primarily in basements, so patrons would "dive" into them

They have those in NY. Basically the second floor will have 8-10 6x8 rooms and the whole floor shares one bathroom. Housing for hardcore alcoholics.
In the next video: fantasy grass is also found outside, and you can even touch it!
You can take the ducks from the pond
Dude. Your videos are earnest, informative, cultural, intelligent and very well thought and made. This content was really good.
Thank you so much! I happened to be in my notifications right when this popped up, and it's really made my morning

Love the blend of history and social commentary

I love it! I've been to curling clubs in BC and Alberta and it's always been a great atmosphere!

Little America in Wyoming, just outside of Rock Springs, is absolutely fantastic! Great video!
Bro. You got us down pat with the tavern league! Growing up my dad used to call the tavern league "Wisconsin's Mafia"
Yeehaw, adventurers!
Amazing video! On next time: European music festivals as modern day fairs!
This was so educational and fun! subscribed!
Great video! You've got a great head of hair, too, by the way. Don't know why, but I felt the need to mention that.

Thats the Riften tavern in ESO and it is(was?) known for radiant RP for players
Oooooh I didn't know that it was a location in-game! I'll have to fire up ESO again and swing by Riften.
Would you include coffee houses as a form of tavern? They were gathering centers in both revolutionary American and France.
Metal and hardcore punk shows are basically dance halls but with physical violence.
YESSSSS 🤘🤘

lol I gotta put that bachelor's degree to use somehow!
We’ve been loosing 3rd places to corporate versions where I live .
That’s a video I didn’t expect. Very interesting though. Anyway, what is a dive bar exactly? Is it like…a regular bar?

I thought this was about Broadway bars in Nashville

It wouldn’t be "medium rare" meat in Valhalla - as it was pork!
maybe some Woden magic can be involved for parasite-less pork? 🥺🥺🥺
