Am I missing something here, the only pros you gave this thing in comparison to other USB cables is that it's orange, and it's thick, first off there are plenty of non black USB cables out there and there plenty of thicker cables out there too, I looked up a video on this subject, specifically because I COULDN'T BELIEVE people would spend this much on a cable without there actually being a reason, and I'm even more confused now than before watching this video

Beside, the arguments I found on Tether Tool's website are… well… questionable. They explain the cables are bigger just because their is more plastic around each cable, and pretend it provides better shielding, hence less noise and interference. And this is nonsense: plastic doesn't shield anything in terms of interference.
What they could have argue is a lower parasitic capacitance due to the increased distance between the wires, and allowing for longer cables without a signal booster. This could be a real advantage (one would have to compute or measure how big it is too confirm it is significant). However, even then, considering the prices of Tether Tool's products, I'm not convinced combining cable + booster from other brands would be a better choice.
I really feel like Tether Tools wildly overcharges just because it is “for photography” (like we see for many other props and tools). In particular knowing that since their cable are presented as just having more plastic, which really fails to justify such a higher price.

was my thoughts exactly. its orange and its thick. Okay let's take some photos of Racheal the model. click click. Rather pointless. I was wondering if there would be something about speed or...something. Guess there's nothing. That makes my decision to buy a generic tethering cable easier ( although i was not likely to shell out the asking price of these nice orange cables...that are...um...thick. And nice. Look i can take pictures with it!. click click.

If you set up the jerk stopper the way you did, a jerk will destroy the port before the jerkstopper even engages. If you pull at the cable, the jerk stopper should always engage before there is any tension to the cable in the port.

I don't think Mike knows it is not just a cable, In order to extend the USB signal, it need to add retimer chips on the two connectors. If the cable is longer than > 2m (6.56ft), it need to add another retimer to ensure the signal integraty. USB cable is not just a cable, it has retimer inside.

I don't understand why I would spend 8x the amont of a regular cable to get an orange one, it doesn't make sense their products are very expensive.

Definitely overpriced and over hyped. I just ordered one from Amazon that's black but a quick add of an orange cover would fix that. The cable has worked fine so far and was only $10.

Tether Tools cables are garbage. They are insanely over priced for their build quality and they fail quickly and easily. There are so many better options out there.
