  • Tom Cruise lands his AS350 helicopter at London Heliport. The well known American actor and producer who starred in the action film series "Top Gun" as "Maverick" also owns several aircraft and helicopters that he flies himself as a pilot. Mr Cruise often visits London Heliport with his AS350 helicopter and next to being a great pilot, he is also a very pleasant visitor, being warm and welcoming to the staff at the Heliport.
    The AS350 is a single-engine light utility helicopter. It is widely used around the world in various roles such as law enforcement, military, private and air rescue. Multiple cabin configurations can be used, between four and six passengers in a typical seating configuration, and large sliding doors can be fitted to either side of the cabin.
    London Heliport (ICAO: EGLW), previously called Battersea Heliport and currently known officially as the Edmiston London Heliport for sponsorship reasons, is London's only licensed heliport.
    The facility opened on 23 April 1959, it is located in Battersea on the south bank of the River Thames a few miles southwest of Westminster Bridge and between Wandsworth Bridge and Battersea Railway Bridge. The heliport, once owned by Westland and then Harrods, is a very small site, it provides a helipad for take-off and landing, and onshore parking for three to four aircraft, depending upon their size.
    London Heliport has a fully licensed rescue and firefighting service who are on duty for all aircraft movements at the port as well as providing an emergency response to any helicopter incident within the London area.

    Very nice bit bumpy 😂😂. Whats the box/compartment on the side behind the pilot's rear door. Extra luggage or is it some mission impossible rockets/missiles for his defence 😆😆

    • @LIONAV
      @LIONAV  Год назад +2

      Officially I would assume extra luggage compartment, unofficially definitely rockets and missiles! 🤣

      We call them Squirrel Cheeks. Yes, extra baggage space.
      A little tidbit about the AS350 Ecurel. That translates to squirrel, like the rodent. Lovingly called that because the A-Star is quite squirrely to hover, especially for a low time pilot. Probably what you see when Tom flies it. That’s not saying Tom isn’t competent though. If you see one hovering smoothly, you can bet it’s a high time pilot at the controls.

    That was a wobbly and awkward landing.

      ASTARS have very sensitive controls and can be hard to land smoothly- particularly with a gusty wind.

      Agree, it was a gusty day to be fair.

      @@LIONAV I was sea-sick just watching this. Looks like he is a little bit unexperienced and was over compensating in all directions so the chopper behaved like a pendulum? The passenger in the back seat was clutching his coat like an eagle holds a lamb and was probably ready to puke any second since he seemed eager to get out and away from the situation?
