Me too. Killer bassline. It just kills me that the wife's response is "oh you can play the men in black song" 🙄 then I respond "sure... but unlike Will Smith, I'm slapping the bass not Chris Rock"
My man Mr. Washington. He's one of my inspirations when I started playing bass back in the 80's. So good seeing Him and Ray Parker performing live. And the young lady sounding great also. The whole band was great. I really love the music from the 60's-80's era. No other era comes close. And today's music just for the most part is terrible; with the music canned music the that awful auto tuning; so hard to tell who can or can't sing. And soul music just don't exist these days. So glad to be able to pull up classic music like "Forget Me Nots" on YT. Peace out.
The Music from this ERA HAS NO EQUAL ! ... I Truly miss ALL these Musical Genius & Unparalleled Singers ! ... This was an OUTSTANDING Post , Thanks Bruh ... 👊
There is aa local band in Portland, ME that pkays this song often .knew it was a Rufus song but didnt realize Ray wrote it! One of mya favorite songs of all time and Ray is one of my favorite artists i didnt even need another reason to love this genius!
Ray Parker is one of my all time favorite musicians. And he writes a lot for Movies and TV. This group sounds awesome! That is a world famous bassline! Bro man holdin it down real tight!
Ray Parker Jr you done it again. All the way back to Jack n Jill. Just awesome. Bass player was staying with the groove but that saxophone just tore the top off that song. LB in Oklahoma Nov 4, 2022
I'm so, so happy to see Ray playing and doing what he does best. He looked kind of lost after his friend and band mate, jazz master Joe Sample passed away a few years ago. He and Freddy have great chemistry as well. They have done music clinics which are fantastic. Some are posted on RUclips. Thank you for sharing this with us. Peace and love.🎶
Big Ups to Ray Parker Jr and Mr. Freddie Washington. The young lady doing vocals has a powerful gift. Sax solo on point. I would buy this version as a single remix/remake. Also check out Patrice Rushen herself and Lee Ritenour doing a live performance. 👍👍
Should have a thousand times the views in a sane world. Love it. Also, Surprised Patrice didn't sue Will Smith for stealing the men in black theme song from her.
Most of the times the rapper doesn't compose the music and many times even the composer or producer may submit to the labels clearance department and the labels will attempt to be slick as labels often do to everyone. The rapper like a quarterback or coach takes the loss and is held accountable though they're least likely to have control over the scenario.
This may be well known, but I recently watched an interview with Freddie and he said this song started as one of his bass workouts. Patrice wrong the song around this bassline. ❤
Awesome ! And I see Ray has Arnell Carmichael there onstage also His Raydio Bandmate I'm sure they did some Raydio songs also...would love to see some of that footage
You're right, I should have noted Arnell (I will fix). Also, you can see two additional songs from that same show (Walking In Rhythm and The Other Woman) if you subscribe to my channel or just do a search for it/them.
10-4, but wasn't it great how they snuck in or inserted "A Love Bizarre" by Prince/Sheila E? in middle of tune. These were/are/will be stellar rock/R&B/funk/pop musicians, one and all. Kudos to the sax man for integrating Sheila A's great tune into this mix. Such a shame that we gots to listen to the crap they wanna say is music from the Black artists the kids listen to today......It isn't music.....rap, hip-hop, etc. It isn't music.

@@bishopburrell9716 had me for a sec 2 but the reverse headstock is the 1st thing that gave it away, ernie never played those, he plays a zeal. also ernie is older with deep canals along his mouth and he rocks a mustache.
Freddy played also on some tracks of George Duke... watch this: ruclips.net/video/cw7HSzpAry4/видео.html or Hancock: ruclips.net/video/ogKDBbi2thA/видео.html
Is this the same Freddie Washington that does stints with Steely Dan? I wish that Freddie was a little higher in the mix, the magic of the original recording bass track was too muted for me.
Patrice Rushen is one amazingly talented woman. This song is always on the short playlist of songs I can never tire of listening to.
Any bass player worth his salt has tried to learn this bass part…props to Freddie Washington. Legend
Absolutely! Me included!
FACTS
Haha Truth
Like, I know how to play it... i just don't know HOW to play it, if that makes any sense.

Ray make a new disco-funk record and a tour with Patrice Rushen! The world needs DISCO-FUNK MUSIC!
I absolutely agree ! Feel the beat, feel the groove. Disco funk
Mind blowing to see some of my heroes perform this! Wish I had been there. Thanks for the good times, my vinyl is treasured!

Oh wow that's Randy Bacon on that second guitar. He loves that left handed headstock. :) This band is the cream of the cream.
Hopefully one of these days I'll learn to play bass like this.
"Ready" Freddie Washington, one of the best in the business when it comes to making great bass lines.
Wonderful cover of Patrice’s great vocals!
"Kevin's daughter Dominique on vocals..." Wonderful voice, great performance, ma'am!

Great opportunity to see how Freddie plays this with his right hand.

Patrice was appropriately listed as a co-writer on the song, and thus receives royalties.
Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear.

Why
@@bustaknutt7729 Because it was Lee's lineup from around 2007, but with Brian Bromberg on bass.

Are you a practicing lawyer or in management ?
I'm a practicing attorney, and practicing musician! LOL
Funny terminology. Musicians practice in their off time but when on stage they are performing
Why do I never ever really see Ray Parker play. I think he is an Industry Plant. He is the Kevin Hart of R and B.
Guess you're too young to know about his band Raydio. Or see his work with the Crusaders.
He's off screen when he plays during the verses
Wow even faster than the original.. tough to play
