My favorite cover. I've always liked Dolly's version better than Whitney's (I know the pop numbers are not with me) But I think that Lucy's cover is out of this world.
Musasia, In my humble opinion, this version by Lucy, is almost a combination of Dolly's version and Whitney's, Dolly's beautiful and heartfelt goodbye to a good friend and Whitney's more powerful rendition, i like to think that Lucy's performance is less Whitney and more Dolly on steroids.!!! either way i believe that both artists would appreciate and love Lucy's cover..
Sure? Try interleave them like 10sec Lucy, 10sec Witney, 10sec Lucy, and so on. Witney sometimes is better but I also hear some ugly choices and needles gymnastics from Witney especially at the end. Lucy keeps is clean and simple with wise decisions for a 17yo. Can't wait to hear her at 25yo.

Whitney was much louder and powerful but Lucy is smoother and more beautiful. My preference is Lucy
Hi Thanks for reaction of Lucy In my opinion this is better than Whitney´s .Lucy does not scream Whitney does Lucy has the reach without the screech as someone said on a reaction to Lucy .screaming does not make it better and you don´t need all vocal gymnastics which Whitney employs from the off .Lucy has covered virtually all of the so called greats and never copies she makes them her own . You also have to remember that Lucy was only 17 when she sang this and the human voice does not fully mature until late 20´s early 30´s.We must have seen different things because no way looked like this song was hard for her in fact many have said she made it look effortless also you can´t tell how close she is to the mic from that video. However thanks for your support of Lucy.
Another good analysis Musasia. Yes this is a video. Musasia, I’m not coming after you. 😅 But as you know Whitney’s version was a cover, and Lucy reinvents her renditions so not to be the same and make her own mark, so Lucy isn’t trying to copy Whitney. It sounded great to me. But what are you comparing volume, power, belt, duration, scream, etc? Dolly Parton didn’t do any of that. You should know there is more to singing than just that, but you could be right. Whitney Houston was a hugely talented and powerful singer. After more songs you will notice that Lucy can hold her own with Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Celine Dion and very many more besides. In fact better them. Young Lucy is equal to all the great legends, not just one - many. This song rendition is as good as Whitney Houston's, and Lucy out sings on her other Whitney songs (plus one without video).

Whitney a great version and iconic, but Lucy even at 17 has better pitch and breath control. I can only imagine what Lucy would be able to do with this at 30 the age when whitney recorded it. Lucy is the best.
Musasia you say this song was to much for Lucy, maybe it was if you want her to sing it with the great powerful voice of Whitney Houston, Whitney had the greatest voice of her generation. Lucy was only 17years of age when she covered this song, Whitney was 28 years of age when she recorded this song, Whitney was a world wide superstar in those days nobody could touch her with her voice, Lucy is unknown in the mainstream music scene she has at the moment a RUclips singing channel, Lucy only sings this song within her voice range and she sings it so beautifully, I do not know what you expectred for a 17 year old girl whose voice is no way near as yet as powerful as Whitney Houston's was.I think you need to give Lucy some slack. Lucy is a great singer in her own right and with a bit of luck will be a great star. Take care Barbara.
