- Fort Matanzas lies 14 miles to the south of the city of St. Augustine, and provided a southern defense of the city, from any attackers attempting to capture the city by coming up the Intracoastal Waterway, via Matanzas Inlet.
Love Flag and Matanzas area. St. Augustine is beautiful. We ride our bikes along the coastline from Ponce Inlet to St. Augustine. Once you get thru Daytona the ride is awesome! Enjoy NCMM!

@@koalabear6722It sure is beautiful!
Very interesting hearing the story of how it got its name. I sm a descendant of French Hugeonots who came to the new world for religious freedom. It is quite a story. I will have to share it with you.
Yes, I actually mentioned in the video that comes out in the morning, that I was going to be meeting someone who is going to share their story. I was referring to you when I said that. I remembered that you had said something about being a descendant.
@NCMemoryMakers WOW Derrick you have a great memory. I only has shared that once before in a comment. I can't wait to meet you both in a few weeks. It won't be long now. I am really looking forward to spending time together. I will share that story with you then. God bless. See you soon.
@smokymountainman4964 Sounds good. We're looking forward to it.
I remembered it, because I think you told me that right after we had gotten back from St. Augustine, back in August. I had actually shown the cemetery and talked about it then. That's how it stuck out in my mind.
