I just bought a new 2020 WR250R for my first dual sport and am extremely happy with the choice. I wanted a new CRF250L or KLX250 however, could not get a good deal on one in WA or OR. I ended up paying $1300 more for the Yamaha but think I got a superior bike and deal overall. The only knock I can see on the WR250R is the height for some people. Every Honda and Kawasaki dealer wanted what I considered exorbitant destination and preparation fees. I was able to get the WR250R for less than MSRP and no destination or prep fees. Also the CRF250L and KLX250 best prices were for 2019 models vs the 2020 WR250R. I agree completely that the CRF250L is a great bike; they just aren’t a great deal (new) in the PNW. Good used ones are even harder to find in this area. Thank you for another great video. I’m a subscriber and enjoy your content.
The Wr250R I have said for a long time is the BEST 250 Dualsport but you will pay for it! You have a magnificent dual sport you can not only commute on but really travel on! CONGRATS on the bike
Mark Halversen You aren’t going to have a hard time selling it. There aren’t many used later year dual sports to be had in WA or OR, and yours has low miles and fuel injection. Good luck!
I used to own the 250 Rally I have no doubt this is also a fantastic bike. Ever since I sold the Rally, I thought about 'downgrading' to the L version as I feel it's more suited for the off-roading (less expensive fairings to break, lighter and easier to customise for off-road use) The only thing that's been keeping me away from doing so is its weight. At 147kg wet, I feel it could do with a diet and go down to around 130kg. (from 325lb to 290lb), especially being just a 250cc.
you nailed it the plastics are way cheaper and it really is better offroad. It is a tad heavy at 330 but its managable and very capable. I think most guys have a hard time when the look at the 250L because it looks like a real ready to go dirt bike! but its just a dual sport thats kinda heavy and not a ton of power so most get turned off when the fire it up. The 250L for what it was made for weight/power in a 250 class I think they nailed it, the only thing I wish they did different and price it more is the suspension make it adjustable and this bike would be 100%
I finally stopped talking about it and did it today. I didn’t even know which to get but the 250L was one of the cheapest in my area despite all the dealer markups now a days. Hard to even find them in stock but decided I’ve waited long enough
I can acknowledge that the 690 Enduro is a perfect bike to get really into the world of dualsports. I have begun with a DRZ-400 my very first bike for the first 90 days. Then I switched over to the KTM 690 Enduro. Having had her for 10 years now, I am very happy with my new rally horse the KTM 790 Adventure R RALLY. That is my horse for the daily use, for dual sports and adventure. That bike, together with the 690 Enduro, are the best what the earth has ever seen so far. My opinion *hicks* 😇
First bike ever to me and my wife. I got for her a 2019 crf250l, she is shorter. I got for me the 2019 crf250l Rally, Im just bigger and I just liked the looks a bit more. We bought both new, working hard to pay them off so I can start doing mods. Off road I do enjoy the crf250l more! But loving both sooo much!!
the klx looks like a great bike. I considered one in camo but eventually went with the crf. Only because of the deal I got on it. I would love to ride a klx to compare though
Jeff Ferguson I keep flip flopping back and forth on whether to get the CRF 250 L or the KLX. I get that the CRF is bulletproof and versatile, but the KLX just looks better to me, is lighter, and there is a big bore kit for the KLX that converts it to a 351 cc bike.
Scott Jackson hey scott, i’ve had the KLX for a few months now and i definitely recommend it. i can’t say much about the honda, but i did a few small upgrades and im loving the kawi. and yes. the bore kit is always a good option down the road
Hey! I live in Dallas Fort Worth! I’m probably going to get 2020 CRF250L this December!! For my birthday! I’m currently in the process of getting an M stamp! Great video!
Next year I will be ready for a dual sport bike. I have the 790 r right now and KLR 650. Both fantastic bikes but both are pigs need something in my arsenal capable of doing technical rides. Looking for something to fill that gab. Was thinking of KTM 500 exc but really don't like the maintenance schedule. I ride in SoCal and a lot of steep climbs, rocks and sand. I think I need something with power but also can tractor up steep climbs. I guess I'm chasing the unicorn.
There are rumors of a new crf250l coming out, hopefully with the cb300r engine that would be nice. More power and dropping some weight is always welcome!
I have a 2019 250L with 3300 miles and love it. The only modification this bike really needs is to have the shock replaced and the forks modified spend your money wisely put it where it will really do some good.
i have a 2017 250L. it was my first bike and i’m not gonna lie i was not impressed. it maxes out at 65 but also doesn’t ride well on tight trails at all. i’m looking at possibly swapping it with a CBR500r engine as they aren’t very vibey or heavy, but they have a smooth power train. it’s going to change the entire game for the better
HMMMMMM, I never thought os a super moto 250L that might be a sweet commuter and twisty carver. The suspension is not adjustable and could use a new one for sure but it will cost you. Thanks for the comment
I only get 70 miles out of my tank. I have fuel issue's often having a small tank. I take care of it but I also abuse it. The rfx brake and gear fold backs are needed 👍Mitas cross tyres work really well 👌 That 690 is nice, I road with one last year. They look bad arse
Great video thanks alot. Im looking at either the crf or the dr650. Only thing that makes me ponder is the carb compared to the fuel injection. Keep up the good work and be safe..
If you are taller then go WR250R. I think the price premium is probably worth the better suspension, little more power, lower weight, and even longer service intervals. As far as the KLX and the Honda... I would say get the colour you prefer, though I would guess the Honda would outlast the KLX and have more aftermarket support.
Another good video. I get really torn about this bike. On one hand, I grew up riding Honda and am impressed with their performance and reliability. On the other hand, i feel like these bikes are heavy for what they are. Granted, 330lbs is light compared to any "adventure touring bike", but the power to weight is what Im talking about. I mean, you have that KTM 690 pushing 70+hp and nearly the same weight! Still, I can seee me buying one of these, especially if they would do something like a 300, 330, or similar and maintain current weight. But what Im TRULY holding out for (at the moment), is a KTM 390 Enduro. Yes I've heard about the 490 twin allegedly in the works. But I think KTM is making a mistake by not expanding that awesome 390 single into the dual sport segment. It would take the cake at the $6k pricepoint over all of these 250s and the legendary DRZ400. I mean, why not? Can you imagine how attractive and capable that 390 motor would be in a lighter dual sport frame? Call it the 390 Enduro and watch KTM dominate another segment of bikes.
Thanks for the comment, I have always had good luck and really lice guys at Grapevine Honda they They are usually really nice and also decatur honda real nice too is you don't mid a 30 minute drive.
I have 'taken the plunge' and got me one of these brand spanking new early in the year, to join the clan (my trusty DR 650 and DR-Z 400E)! I must admit, I enjoy the little CRF 250L for what it is in my mind: a nice little road bike dressed in dirt clothes. Sure, it's definitely not a hard-core dirt bike (there are plenty of other dedicated dirt/trail/enduro options out there), but what it IS for me is a very light, comfortable road bike that can go most places and get dirty in the bush, albeit at a subdued or 'careful'/sensible pace. If I had to single out ONLY one con on the CRF 250L, it would have to be the suspensions for me. The power delivery could be better, but is 'adequate'for what the bike is, and the crappy tyres are an easy and imminent fix. Now I have to start scratching my head to think of further 'significant' cons ...
Would u rather be on the dr then the crf? I'm debating between these two bikes. I can get into either or for almost the same price. Just want something to get into some trails and gave fun. Asking u this as u have both of them so u might be able to help me out. Cheers
@@julz3217 if the majority of your riding will be on the trails or in the bush, the CRF might be the better option, mainly due to its lesser weight. However, the DR is not far behind, and although heavier it also makes a fine trail bike. Where the DR totally outshines the little CRF is on the open road and in long-distance cruising environments, plus the extra power n the bush also makes it a great candidate. Yes I know, a difficult decision/choice which only you can make :-) !

For putt putt putt, Slowly slow, Sit on the seat dual sport riding they are great as long as you don't encounter any big hills because it won't go up them basically. They are completely gutless and lack the power to lift the front wheel over obstacles you encounter In a split second, a most dangerous attribute for a true dual sport!!
