- Last year, Adam visited Propstore to check out costumes and props from The Expanse, but we were unable to share that experience due to the Hollywood strikes. But now, with Propstore's upcoming final online auction of over 300 items from the sci-fi series, we bring Adam's tour of hand props and blasters from The Expanse out from our archives.

a lovely reminder that every day is a good day to rewatch The Expanse for the umpteenth time!
Man I miss that show.
I really hope they 3D scanned or thoroughly photographed everything important before auctioning. Would be a shame to lose any of those props to history, especially if they re-upped the show, or we were lucky enough to get a video game series in the not-too-distant future
They kind of have a game now, not like the series deserves, but a tell-tale game was released not too long ago about Drummer's story. Game models normally do better when made from scratch though for polygon restrictions. If you're 3D printing things, you almost can't have too much surface density for polys until you need to worry about mass distribution. I've had to trim files down to several parts and even then, each file I try to limit to 2-3gb for folks on restricted internet access.
If the show comes back there's a BIG timejump. It's more cost-effective to recreate if necessary than to pay to store props.
@@C-M-E Yeah, the telltale game looks okay, I haven't had the time to check it out yet. I'd love to see something along the lines of a Mass Effect style trilogy.
@@skepticalbadgerthey set up a smaller jump for the show
@@maxcorrice9499not really, the same stuff happened and there necessarily needs to be a several decade long jump since the next storyline revolves around the laconian navy and its civilization developing a lot of new tech.
Adam Savage is literally a prop in the Expanse Universe. His name as branding on a work boiler suit is lovely. And he gets to be part of the Sol Ring after serving on the Arboghast
Wasn't that one robot also made by Savage Industries in the show's universe?
Adam Savage's Shopping Network
i always make it my mission to rewatch the series at least twice a year. the world they created just sweeps me off my feet and brings out that nerdy child in me
But do you have Holden's coffee maker in the inventory?
you should try tea.
Excellent trigger discipline in that thumbnail, sir.
I loved Expanse. Such a shame the story had to end. Loved it.
There's more story left. I reckon it'll happen, just need the actors to age a bit.
The fact they're selling off the props isn't a good sign
Fans forced them to make the last season and I doubt they would fall for that again. 😆
The Expanse is amazing! The show really hit its stride in season 2, and from then on it's even better than the books
Book 7 was so good. They were just getting ready to do book seven. Such a shame it never got done. If it is canceled can we talk about spoilers in Book 7?
yeah, the first season definitely has a lot of what i call "tv moments" lol, lots of goofy tv show stuff and contrived conflict between the crew. but once you hit season 2, it really comes into its own and starts cooking bigtime. i actually just started rewatching it and man, it's soooo good
I actually came out of that with a different opinion, while the expanse is definitely the current high-water mark for "getting it right" on screen, I found that the characterizations in the series were significantly dumbed down to the point where they didn't even look or function like a professional crew. That is a story point that I appreciate it in the book series immensely, that the crew of the restaurants were professionals. So many of the interpersonal conflicts we saw in the series were handled in such a better way in the books.
@@jimflagg4009I think they'll make book 7 eventually... So no spoilers please
Yeah big doubt that its better than the books lol
Amos Burton : [Puts his hand on Prax's gun which was aimed at Dr. Strickland, lowering it] You're not that guy. You're not that guy.
[Prax leaves]
Dr. Strickland : [Standing up from where he was kneeling] Thank you. Thank you.
Amos Burton : I am that guy.
I literally just finished my rewatch. Timing couldn't be better!
I would love to have those coffee cups. I'd actually just love some merch replicas for a normal price that I could use daily
These are actually just travel mugs from the German company Emsa. They're not producing these anymore, but you can find some online for not too much cash. I have four of them, each was 9 EUR. For the show they were just slapping some stickers on them.
Adam never muzzles anyone or puts his finger on the trigger even with a prop. Safety is ingrained into him.
After many years of Mythbusters, having (or causing) a near-death experience at an average of twice every season, that does not come as a surprize...
Adam thanks great video. It just shows how much the production staff went the extra mile on the detail of the props. I was really surprised at how low some of the minimum bids were on some of the items-FANTASTIC. If you were a fan of the Expanse I highly recommend to check out the catalog.
We need the last 3 books made!
The massive details in these props are 😲
Adam, I have no idea if you read any of these comments or not, but I am so jealous of the opportunities you are afforded. The geek in me sadly will only get to live vicariously through your videos, at least for a great deal of things, aka when you went to the back room of the museum doing a segment on armor. (I belong to a medieval recreation group, and I'm an aspiring bladesmith.) As to The Expanse, I loved that show. I was sad to see it's inevitable demise, but hopefully some bright person will resurrect The Expanse's universe, and bring us a new show, maybe a show about The Belter's?
The Expanse is sort of like a modern-day TOS Star Trek: cult hit that got even more popular after it went off the air. Hopefully we'll get the final three books adapted to the screen someday.
In 1969 TOS was cancelled
In 1979 TMP was screened
So Expanse wrapped up in 2022?
2032, enough Screaming Firehawk momentum to get actors with ten years on them and another 15yrs of make up for the 30 yr time jump?
Yamseng Kopeng!!
oh heck yeah. i love hearing adam talk about the expanse. one of my favorite book and tv series of all time
I keep hoping someone decides to pick up the Expanse and finish the last few seasons to match the books. It was such an amazingly good show.
Again, The Expanse is sooo much better than any other space-based film, TV, series, etc.
Need to see you on Ty & That Guy podcast!
Wow i literaly started rewatching the entire series again yesterday now i see this video. so sad the series is over
Really interesting how these props are extremely solid and overbuilt but often very simple and almost improvised from off the shelf parts at the same time. Cool stuff!
The Expanse is Star Trek for the 21st century. Blings my blong.
Love The Expanse. Amos’ character, particularly the scene where he talks about “the churn” has stuck with me.
We must ensure savage industries survives until the 2500s
Savage industries will build tycho station
Beltalowda!
Oye!
Such great craftsmanship! Most of the space rifles resemble a lot of my high caliber pellet guns
I see Adam's Seiko SKX is making a cameo.😊 Love the Expanse!
i’d love to watch this video 350 years from now
Just on the final season for the 5th watch through.
Love the show so much. A must watch. Such good world building.
Just want the last 4 books to made😢
Best Sci-Fi show of the last 25 years; hell, one of the best shows of the last 25 years full stop!
Genuine travesty that it never got the recognition it richly deserved.
God I’d love to have a set of the replica firearms from the show to just look into them, I want to be able to build my own.
Love The Expanse. Love the designs and concepts in the series. Although, the ending left a few details unfinished. I think it totally deserves a spin-off series.
It's different, but, about on par for me with the reimagined BSG series on SyFy several years back.
There are three more books from where the show left off. There's a big time jump, so it's not unreasonable to see it come back later even if the actors are all older, because it would tie in with the Laconia arc of the series.
@@steve_ire321 I think many would love more Expanse on streaming
The Expanse deserves another season!
Yes it does 😞
it deserves 3 more seasons for the last 3 books!!!
@@AndrewXigna are the book series finished? Never read them.
@@Dracobyteyup. All good things need an ending.
The last novella is a nice coda.
But the epilogue to book nine… 🍻
That last pistol in the pelican case was a livestock drench gun.
The Expanse was amazing.
Incredible stuff 😭loved Expanse
There should be another season of The Expanse , because the last one left so many questions..... Especially the Protomolecule Spaceship...
There's three more books out there that finish the story. Not sure if they will ever be adapted for the screen (one of them will be really hard to adapt based on how they ended the TV series).
I remember Holden having that medical diagnostic armband in one of the early seasons. Either Savage's arms are very small, or Stephen Strait had arms like tree trunks!
Its cool that they used a real medal case and what looks like an actual Purple Heart for the prop, They are fairly cheap, the case, in real like also.
I have that same case! It holds my DJI Air 3 drone.
I can feel her aging as Adam starts grabbing all the props
I wonder if that bone density injector prop was converted from a cattle drench gun (used for dispensing medication to farm animals). The handle mechanism looks almost identical to one that I used in the past.
IDK, I had a garden hose sprinkler pistol very similar to that. It would be easy to modifie, just changing the tubes and fittings
Star wars set the trend in prop making whereby the best weapon props are always based on or built on actual firearms. I don't watch the expanse but I can tell they used the same formula.
Which I hate. Star Wars did it because it was cost-effective and made the props hefty and real-looking. This show had no need to do it but based everything on identifiable airsoft guns anyway despite no ships or vehicles being based on present-day tech. Dumb. I love the show but the guns are awful.
@@skepticalbadger they totally needed to do that, for the first two seasons.
The budget they had for props and effects was sell spent in the zero-g scenes, practical effects, costumes and in the sets, alongside very good CGI.
It was a Scyfy Channel Original (season 1 and 2) before going to Amazon Prime. Money was tigth, they had to priorityze, and they have choosen weel in my oppinion.
And after the two seasons they already had set the visual trend for the show, so they could not change that much.
Adam looking kinda like That Guy in the thumbnail.
Adam....Why don't you make a phone like that? You can already make a transparent tv?
i loved the exspanse wish the show didnt end
I love to own Bobbie Drapers purple heart! 💜
season 3 ep 7, armband. just saw that!
Please please please... When you get these chances to handle items like this, that us mere mortals can only dream of... Film in 4k please! The rest of us re-create just like you do and you know the difficulty of getting the fine details from show screen grabs.
...does Amos's selector switch say Eat, Spray, love? LOL
single, burst, safe???
Fire, Spray, Safe
Were there any props connected to Alex? I know the actor is allegedly a bit of a creep, but his character was still cool as hell.
wait they're not making anymore of the expanse ?!
EXPANSE MOVIE NOW!
I usually love Adam's visits to Propstore but they're typically best when the Propstore host is more knowledgeable about the series and comfortable on TV. Maegan doesn't seem to have a great grasp of the series (doesn't know how to pronounce Rocinante) and isn't able to interact with Adam as deeply as Stephen has in other videos.
Great video Adam sir 😊❤
why does sci-fi usually have super bulky guns? it's like several guns stuck together
I would want one of them suits and maybe that 🔫 🫠😊
In the past props were just thrown away...😢..The space station in 2001 a space odyssey was discarded 🗑️in a field before eventually being destroyed
God The Expanse is so good
What did the strike have to do with anything?
Scroll down in the comments, do a ctrl+f search for "strike," and you'll find your answer.
Always worth doing before posting.
I went to the auction site to see what Amos' Shotgun was going for, knowing I wouldn't stand a chance... doesn't appear to be on there at all. Curious.
I'd suggest re-watching the first 40 seconds of the video; this is covering material from the first auction.
The hero shotgun sold for $8,750 including BP in August 2023.
Sounds like you didn't pay attention to what was said at the beginning of the video
Hey Adam, I still want to see your Aliens Nerf get modded, maybe you are waiting for the new Movie???
It's such a shame that they never adapted the final three books of the series.
"Never"? It didn't finish that long ago.
Cool
Is there gonna be a another season?
i’m hopeful!
the show mixed timelines a bit… but there was a big time lag between books where they left off…. so a return to the world could make sense
Considering they're auctioning off props, I doubt it
@@Ben-Rogue That means nothing. The next seasons would require a timejump.
@@skidooboy8977 Their was aprequel to this about som of the astronaughts that landed on the moon
She thought he was gonna load that gun. Lol!!!!
Some inert props can be loades with one or two shells, to simulate for the cameras, even ejecting if you cicle them.
That looked like it could be one of those.
@@carloshenriquezimmer7543 I just meant that he was being a little too grabby with the props.
@@clutch2827 well, who is to blame him for it. Those pieces are too cool for not to try...
I love the expanse. Of course, it was canceled bc streaming companies are painfully inept.
This video brought to you by Husqvarna.
100% agree that it was the best show ever. I do think they ended the show at the right point... I don't know how they'd translate the last few books into tv.
adam buys all the props 😅
Adam is "that guy"
Fairly sure that wasn't the beacon that lured the Canterbury to the Scopuli, unless it was an early draft of the prop following a different idea to what was eventually used. Not sure what it could be otherwise.
It was combined with another item in the auction - Lot 17: Scopuli Ship Light-up Martian Beacon and Ship Corridor Magnetic Light. The other item in the listing photos looks like the beacon, so I'm guessing Maegen simply mixed up the two items.
@@Thomas_Esson that makes much more sense - thanks!
That was used as computer memory.
Funny thing: it’s a commercially available hard drive holder. They discontinued them just before the series started.
I mean, they also call the Auto-Doc a "medical device" and the hand terminals "datapads".
@@foxyfoxington2651and referred to (presumably) Avasarala as "Ava". Yeah, the auction house lady was likely going on written info and not a deep knowledge of the show. Though the portable medical scanner they had there was not the same as the auto-docs in the ship's med bay. That was purely a diagnostic tool, I think, whereas the auto-doc could also administer drugs.
As a newly converted expanse fanatic. My wallet is scared
Just curious as to why the strikes would affect your content???????
I think it is just so he does not get a load of BS, for not getting involved on that load of BS...
That, or just out of empathy, IDK
Another commenter asked the same question 7 hours earlier - worth doing a quick keyword search before posting.
But the primary factor was Adam appeared in the show, so he would have technically been discussing and promoting his work.
Where is the Savage Mechrobot from season 5x4?
I don't think that was a physical prop. It was CGI. Maybe they had one leg of it as a prop for some shots, but the rest was digital.
The bone growth injection gun looks much like an intraosseous IV driver. Don't look those videos up if you're squeemish though.
God I wish I had the money to get something from this show. Anything cool or of note last round was just way too much.
If only I were rich. Would love any one of these.
same, well i never saw the expanse but if i was rich id buy you one.
In case you have a broader interest in original props, just keep in mind that while this title is likely to attract a fair bit of bidding competition, cheaper (yet still notable) pieces can be found with sufficient flexibility, patience, and research. Earlier this year I picked up several screen-matched props from The Great at opening bids of 50. Not to say the stuff beyond your reach isn't wish-worthy, but if you'd like to collect, and especially if you can afford 100-200, there's more low-end opportunity than many realize.
Sadly I cant pick up anything, since I do not own a credit card : (
It is very uncommon here in my country to have one.
Didn't know that about Germany. It could be worth emailing; I believe they accept international electronic transfer, so maybe that info could substitute for the registration requirement? Or you could find a friend with a card who's willing to serve as a go-between.
@@Thomas_Esson Yea, I thought about it , too ^^
But I expect the items to reach way higher prices than I could afford ^^
It is a well beloved show and the props are amazing, so it wont go on the end which would be for me ^^
But that thought came way later after my post X D
Lol that’s the same gun you held 7 years ago.
12:31. Looks to be made out of a gun for drenching sheep!
wow, I checked the comments to see how many people (men) corrected her use of the term "bullets" and am happy to say none so far! Well I guess one now... :P
Nothing like auctions for the rich to up bid prices to keep props out of the hands of the every day fan...
Not quite sure what alternative you expect for rare, desirable artifacts… but as far as price, it depends on the title. In this case, having achieved six seasons and a fervent fanbase, I can appreciate disappointment at high competition, but I don’t think it’s all that shocking. Plenty of auctions go the other way, though; I loved The Great, and earlier this year picked up several screen-matched props at opening bids of 50 (in fact, out of 209 lots, the median item went for a mere 100). It’s just that not every title on your wish-list is going to be attainable (it helps to find films or shows that you love but most people dismiss). If you can accept that flexibility, and combine it with a little patience and a willingness to do more research than the vendor, there’s almost definitely more low-end opportunity than you realize.
Why did they cancel the Expanse?
They didn't. The creators ended it. They may well come back to cover the remaining books.
@@skepticalbadger If I had to guess they had the script written with Alex in them and since they had to fire the actor they had to rewrite the scripts.
@@skepticalbadger Well technically they kinda did aprequel series for it called For All Mankind 😁😉🤓👨🚀👩🚀🚀🛰🌚
💯💪🏼
well i guess this really puts a nail in the coffin of the show ever finishing.
No it doesn't. It's routine to destroy sets and sell off assets. It's more cost-effective unless you have a firm plan to film more soon - and the show will need a timejump if and when it returns.
@@skepticalbadger its been years and there is zero sign of them having funding. You sir are coping.
@@TerminalApe I don't hold out high hopes. While uber-popular with fans, it was never widely watched. However, I am led to understand that it is still under Amazon contract for first refusal on more live-action adaptation, and they aren't doing anything. Until that contract expires, nobody else can do anything. There are lots of rumours, mostly bovine excretion if you ask me, but I would not 100% rule out further adaptations by somebody at some point in the future. Low likelihood, but not impossible. The 30 year time gap between book 6 and book 7 lends itself to a pause if you're hoping to use at least some of the same cast without blowing the whole budget on make-up or AI aging effects. But the show would have to grow in popularity a lot (maybe via the game, comics, reaction videos, etc.) before anyone will put money into making more of it. We may have to be happy with what we already have.
Are you that guy?
If Adam were still making TV money, I bet he would've bought a few of the items while visiting..
Ross a naughty
lol that bugged me too
reason number 257 to piss me off over that stupid strike is this stuff is now long sold and we never knew about it so no chance at trying to buy it
rossinotti
Way to kill the best show. Sell their props at auction. The Expanse. Peripheral and others. All of this based on some people reviews that chose to rate low something rather than watching some soap operas which would probably get a max rating from them.
I don't understand how a youtube channel is affected by a SAG/Writers guild strike? This isn't a movie and its a taping of a conversation, not a scripted drama?
Adam appeared in the show, so he would have technically been discussing and promoting his work.
they are indirectly promoting the show. If you wanted to support the SAG/Writers guild strike, you would not put out content that does that while the strike was in effect.
@@Thomas_Esson I guess. It's a show no longer in production, it's a pretty grey area. Especially since he was basically an extra.
@@shaggycan Projects no longer in production were still prohibited by strike rules, since there remains revenue to the studios - streaming, re-broadcast, physical media, licensed products, etc. No grey area there as far as I'm aware.
@@Thomas_Esson the spirit of the rule is to prevent stars from promoting content on media during a strike.
Talking about props getting auctioned off by a guy that was in one episode for 30 seconds is pretty far removed from that.
I doubt anyone would have had a problem with it.
It's his choice of course.
It's like supporting a strike against Ford by not buying tires for your car you bought 5 years ago by someone that used to wash cars there. Lol.
Glorifying guns is never good. They should not be in movies or television shows or video games.
well that sounds boring
I’m just gonna go back to mythbuster, Adam savage corporate shill lol
Someone who has been building sets and props since the days of Star wars is geeking out over the sets and props from a show that he was a part of, that makes him a shill in your mind?
